The thing is... it's "men", though, isn't it. It's always men.

It's only really dawned on me in recent years. The conversations we all have about what "countries" or "states" are doing to eachother, the terrible crimes against women, animals and children, particularly the sexually motivated ones. It's men. We're not talking about what a particular state or country has done, we're talking about what men have done.

So now, when I click onto my news app, I find myself thinking "What have the men done now."

I feel sad that I can only really now see it this way. Actually sad for many reasons.

@VeniVidiWeeWee No, I was thinking of various male-led and majority-male governments across the world. Then there’s the actual fascist governments which were in fact entirely led by men.

Fine. Stick your fingers in your ears and go la la la.

They introduced draconian, if not fascist, a much overused term, measures.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 09/11/2023 01:32

@VeniVidiWeeWee fine then, stick your hands over your eyes and ignore the dictionary definition of fascism. Yes, the temporary lockdown measures were strict and restrictive. They had nothing to do with fascism. Go and look it up. It doesn’t mean “I didn’t like it and my life was severely affected” because fyi some people including me were incredibly severely affected - I lost my job, whatever remained of my mental health, my physical health pretty much, my hobbies and my relationship. That does not make the policies of Ardern and Sturgeon fascist. Please read an encyclopaedia or something before you try that one again. Also this thread is not the place for this debate.

Yes. It’s men

Tryingtobeagoodie · 09/11/2023 02:25

I agree. I've actually considered becoming a nun before now, just so I can live with only women and be protected from men

Arf at Jacinda implanting quasi fascist policies!

I'm in Nz and we were enjoying huge parties with total freedom while the UK were lumbering around with little direction, long lockdowns and thousands of deaths due to the failure in leadership and poor decision making by their male PM.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 09/11/2023 08:46

Yes, the difference between fascism and sensible policy during a pandemic is so vast you can see it from space. People now seem to use fascist to describe “I don’t want to comply with it”. In the same way gaslighting now seems like a catch-all covering modest lies and mean comments as well as, well, actual gaslighting.

But at what cost? In my opinion, every world leader who adopted a Zero Covid is guilty of a crime against humanity and should be in jail.

Women can be awful too, they're just in power less often.

Men do awful things but they're also more often the ones who are soldiers, firemen, police etc who save vulnerable people (as well as sometimes doing oppressive things)

People are just complicated and power is corrupting
