Please tell me where! I've been to the Isle of Wight and looked in all the places I was told about, no luck. Same to a place in Scotland they apparently live in the garden, nowt. Please help me see one!

I saw one in the Isle of Wight. It was either by the oldest church or where Algernon Swinburne's blue plaque is which is Bonchurch I think.

Browsea Island and Caldey Island.

We (very briefly) saw two in one day on holiday in the Isle of Wight this summer. One on Alverstone Mead nature reserve where we had gone to look for them, and then later in the play area of the Garlic farm.

I see them all the time in my village in central Scotland, they visit people's bird feeders, it's more unusual to see a grey one these days.Often saw them running across the road on the school run in the morning, sadly also see squashed ones. They are expanding their range round here. We also have otters, beavers and pine martens round the edges of the village but they more elusive, DS saw a young one Marten running across the road, I was very jealous.
Cairngorm national park is a good place to see them as are the woods near Aberfeldy.

Wbeezer · 03/11/2023 20:21

I also used to see them in my Grandparents garden in the Lake District.

chubbybear1 · 03/11/2023 20:21

Yes, every day in garden in Highland Scotland

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/11/2023 20:23

Last week on Arran while out walking. My Mum says she sometimes sees them in her garden. No grey squirrels on Arran (or foxes). Long may this continue.

crankit · 03/11/2023 20:24

Ooh we're off to the Lake District soon, any tips where we might spot some ?

Livingmagicallyagain · 03/11/2023 20:25

We see them often in the woods around the Dublin mountains.

Vinorosso74 · 03/11/2023 20:25

Yes. A few years ago I spotted one in a tree by the road into Woodhorn museum near Ashington, Northumberland.

HappiDaze · 03/11/2023 20:28

Yes on the Isle of Wight

Perthshire . Balquhidder to be precise. There were lots in the trees around Loch Voil and Loch Doine. So fantastic to see.

I always see a few up around that way too.

Yes, Austria. There’s loads of red ones and loads of black ones.

I was going to say the same. I went to the IoW and was sad that I didn't see any so was thrilled when I saw both red and black squirrels in Austria

jessycake · 03/11/2023 20:54

A tiny glimpse of one on Brownsea Island, but saw them in captivity at Wildwood in kent where they breed them and re introduce back into the wild , they also have a site in devon

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 03/11/2023 21:33

My one and only sighting at Jersey Zoo

Have you ever seen a red squirrel?
trulyunruly01 · 03/11/2023 21:40

Highland Wildlife Park
They have a 'looked after' colony but there are wild ones around too.
Cutest lil guys.

WestNotEast · 03/11/2023 21:40

Center Parcs Whinfel in the Lake District, it was also the first time my Mum had ever seen one and we were lucky enough to catch her sheer joy on video. Sadly she is no longer with us but that memory is just lovely.

Dinneronmybfpillow · 03/11/2023 21:48

Brownsea Island, late summer/early autumn and near the church is the best place to spot them

DilemmaDelilah · 03/11/2023 21:55

I think I saw one in Bath about 25 years ago - I definitely saw several in Spain, the Costa Brava.

newnamethanks · 03/11/2023 22:35

Brownsea Island, Poole Harbour, about 5 years ago.

Silkiefloof · 03/11/2023 22:38

Yes last ones we saw were in gardens in Tresco, Isles of Scilly, lots of them. Some at the cafe, some in trees.

Highlyflavouredgravy · 03/11/2023 22:38

Have often seen them in Formby.
Have seen them in the lake district too

BlueEyedPeanut · 03/11/2023 22:46

I last saw them about 30 years ago in Scotland just as grey squirrels were taking over.

Motheranddaughter · 03/11/2023 23:28

On Arran

Caldey Island off Tenby. They were introduced there in 2016 and they currently have 50+.

Amazing, I used to live in Tenby and didn’t know this. I saw someone earlier put Caldey and thought there aren’t any there 😁

dd has just got back from Vienna and said she saw loads in the city.
