Do you find extremely muscular men attractive?

I see a lot of stuff about body acceptance for women, some insanely popular instagrams featuring very large women and clothes, etc. This is great, and I support representation of all body types. I then wondered about men, how they don't ever seem to glorify or share images of being larger bodied. Only muscled bodies.
So I presume men are less accepting of themselves as 'fat' whereas women are becoming more progressive and accepting?

It is obviously a very popular trend for men to build excessive muscle, perhaps way more, in the general sense than any other time in history, but i have wondered how many women like it? I guess this is objectifying the male body, but I am more interested in it as a trend.

I personally prefer a Bruce Lee or yoga toned type male body to a 'built' one, and can't relate to the whole bulging muscle thing. As a straight woman who is attracted to men, anything more than natural kind of turns me right off, sexually, although of course not as a person.

What do you think?

Men don't need it as much. Think about how many comedies have a fat, balding, ugly, funny man and a beautiful, slim wife. How many actors who are short, tall, fat, thin, built, skinny. But really there are very few fat women. Even fewer old ones. Vanishingly rare ugly ones.

I personally like the beaten up rugby player look.

GigiAnnna · 03/11/2023 00:36

I prefer real looking bodies, from either slightly chubby to lightly toned. I hate the look of bulging muscles, it looks impressive but it does nothing for me.

LittleDrops · 03/11/2023 00:37

You are right, this is so true of course. I had been reading an article about it, and most of the comments were male, and it was interesting to see how they viewed the muscle trend stuff. From their perspective many thought it was troubling - but then a lot of body trends are, whether male or female.

I know a few beaten up rugby players, might pass you on Grin

Over-muscled men are about as appealing as having a giant slab of rock as a mattress.

I'd prefer a dad bod any day of the week.

KeepJoggingOn · 03/11/2023 00:41

It takes a lot of work and dedication to get that look naturally. I will admit it does nothing for me, but they're not doing it for female approval, they are in competition with one another.

Saggypants · 03/11/2023 00:43

It's not my preferred type (also a rugged rugger lover here) but I'd choose very muscly over very lean or very fat.

I also aspire to be muscly myself - but lack the commitment.

Doglover19 · 03/11/2023 00:44

I can't think of anything worse than a man who spends all of his spare time in the gym !!! No thanks its not appealing to me and most of the time their egos are as big as their muscles.

This. They don't do it for the female gaze. They do it to strut around like peacocks and show off to each more.

LittleDrops · 03/11/2023 00:46

Yes, the men discussing it said as much. I have heard that some are feeling pressured to do it to feel safe, or untouchable. This makes me sad. I also appreciate that many do it because they love it and feel good. That's absolutely fine, and I am supportive of anyone having the body the choose (or those they can't choose).

I personally like some natural fat on a man, too. I loved the physique of less muscular male bodies in the 90's, although the 70's were.. interestingly 'thin'.
It makes a change to discuss the male body, you don't see it all that much!

Overly muscly isn’t something I’m into, but I like a fit and toned look.

A man that spends hours in the gym each day and is obsessed with protein isn’t appealing, but one that generally eats healthily, runs, does a few weights and cares about their health is attractive.

RogueFemale · 03/11/2023 00:51

Fat / curves are feminine, and without fat your periods stop. So women are on the fat spectrum so to speak. Whereas with men, the only thing they have to work with is muscle, and I suppose it ends up with some of them thinking the more the better. Personally I find muscly men really unattractive. Not just physically, it's the fact that they would spend ages working out and probably a very boring dietary routine.

Edit: what I find most attractive - just in physical terms - is very tall, 6' 3" is ideal, and a good circumcised penis. I hate foreskins.

Isthisreasonable · 03/11/2023 00:55

Huge turn off. What happens to their bodies when they stop working out?

Mytholmroyd · 03/11/2023 00:59

I like swimmers bodies best!

LittleDrops · 03/11/2023 01:00

I fully appreciate that this is subjective and only my own feeling, but when it is pushed to the larger end of the scale I find it looks really aggressive. It is a complete turn off. It reminds me of the female obsession with being waif thin in the 90's, just somewhat too extreme. I think most people go for an average, with varying kinds of beauty (and I think men are beautiful).

I walked behind a very built guy into town last week and for all I know he was a sweetheart, but christ he looked menacing.

Really don't like muscles and six packs.

Angrymum22 · 03/11/2023 01:01

DS19 has become very body conscious over the last 18mnths. It is very much a growing trend within his peer group. Only tonight he was talking about how he is going to exercise and what he will eat over the next couple of months because he will have his right arm immobilised after surgery.
On the one hand he is a body obsessed but then the healthy eating habits he has adopted are impressive compared to the fast food addiction he had as a mid teen.
He takes after his DF, both are naturally athletic and don’t struggle to stay lean.
I’m not a big fan of overly muscled men but do like a bit of definition.
In rugby terms a fan of the backs rather than the forwards. I do have a secret crush on Joe Marler at the moment but that’s more to do with his personality than his physique. I’m partial to a lovable rogue.

LittleDrops · 03/11/2023 01:03

and a good circumcised penis lol Grin

I don't discriminate with height personally. Some fucking gorgeous shorter men out there!
In honesty is isn't something i have ever registered, height. If a man was shorter than me at 5"4, I might notice it.

Male swimmers yes. I think female swimmers often get too muscular around the shoulders.

It's unavoidable. Like girls with their aspirations. I would worry if he was interested in food replacements or steroids.

I'd sell my soul for Jason momoa...Most muscled guys don't look like that though and they're so veiny! The biggest men at my gym all walk with this crumpled C shaped stance with their shorts rolled up to show their thighs. I want to laugh every time I see it.

Growlybear83 · 03/11/2023 01:30

I find muscles really unattractive. I like nice skinny men, preferably with long hair. I've never been attracted to anyone with short hair.

afrikat · 03/11/2023 01:39

I am a massive man of muscles. The Rock is my ultimate man. I just find massive muscles attractive 💪

Oh sure - wasn't thinking about female bodies just male ones as per the thread!

AmazingSnakeHead · 03/11/2023 01:46

The fat body positivity doesn't exist for men because women have less power, and so have not imposed a look on men. And as this thread shows, women vary in preference.

In women, body positivity is abut reclaiming the conversation on how we look.

As an aside, I genuinely don't have a type. Every man I've dated has been gorgeous in my opinion, but all look Very different from each other.

Thepossibility · 03/11/2023 01:54

I find the really muscled up bodies a bit grotesque. Sort of in the same way I feel about huge fake boobs and lips. They're trying too hard and just look silly.
