None of the Friends Co stars have posted anything on Instagram about Matthew Perry's death

Maybe they have posted elsewhere, just find it strange that none of them appear to have acknowledged it on Instagram, especially as they all seem to be pretty active on there.

OP posts:
Sparkleshine21 · 30/10/2023 11:51

I imagine they are grieving together some where possibly and preparing a statement.

WeCanCallItEven · 30/10/2023 11:51

Personally, I keep my real feelings off Instagram. I don't post about grieving for people I know and have lost, certainly not in the immediate aftermath. I don't post my thoughts about Israel and Palestine. I don't post crying selfies or wish people a happy birthday up in heaven. It doesn't mean I don't feel anything, or that I don't cry or grieve just because it's not on my Insta. I share that with people in real life.

For a celebrity, social media is part of their job and the public persona they choose to share with the world. For the sake of anyone's mental health I'd always advise them to keep a distance between what they put out on their social media profiles and what they want to protect and keep private. We all need that. Be wary of forming parasocial relationships and expecting someone you don’t actually know to perform their emotions for you.

In short, not everything has to be posted on Instagram to exist! I have no doubt these people are shocked and saddened; none of us have any right to insist that we're included in that. Most of most people's lives takes place off camera, as it should.

otherwayup · 30/10/2023 11:52

And how exactly does this impact you op?
If I'd lost a close friend social media would be the last thing on my mind.

Grief tourism at its absolute worst there op, do you feel you're entitled to read about how his co stars are feeling?
I imagine they're utterly devastated.

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 30/10/2023 11:53

I didn't say a word on socials when my oldest friend died. Wasn't about me - it was about her and besides l was too upset. Maybe they are too shocked atm.

That's unacceptably rude, even if you disagree with OP.

hobbledyhoy · 30/10/2023 11:54

I think the OP is symptomatic of a lot of the issues in society. Everything has been turned into a performance, even grief.
We now expect everyone to provide us with carefully curated words to capture the moment, instantaneously, regardless of their own opportunity to process what must be utterly horrifying news.
Let them be and stop circling like vultures.

MindatWork · 30/10/2023 11:54

This is everything that's wrong with the performative nature of social media. When they do post something it will be reported as 'FRIENDS CO-STARS BREAK SILENCE OVER CO-STAR DEATH'

😒

ClairDeLaLune · 30/10/2023 11:55

TheresaBouvey · 30/10/2023 11:42

Very ghoulish and inappropriate OP

⬆️ this. Nasty post OP, shame on you.

willWillSmithsmith · 30/10/2023 11:56

Maybe because they’re dealing with something more important to them than shallow, attention seeking social media posts! Their loss is very real it’s not a cheap excuse for them get an online presence. They’re apparently going to issue a joint statement which I think sounds like the correct thing to do.

It is exactly what they will print. Always “breaks silence”. It is so annoying.

Horriblewoman · 30/10/2023 11:57

When a friend died, not one person who was close to him posted anything for weeks, but in person we were talking and meeting up and supporting in each other.

duchiebun · 30/10/2023 11:58

I think that’s normal tbh!

SkinnyMalinkyLankyLegs · 30/10/2023 11:59

It's really sad that you think their perusal (or lack thereof) at a time like this means anything.

Seriously, have a break from SM, it'll do you the world of good.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 30/10/2023 11:59

OMG! They haven’t posted yet? You know what this means, right? They clearly hated him and he was an outcast and…

Alternatively, they are grieving the loss of a close friend in privacy and with dignity.

I admire them more for not instantly commenting.

theemmadilemma · 30/10/2023 11:59

GonnaNeedABiggerBag · 30/10/2023 11:14

Aside from the expected joint statement, I expect they are devastated and are taking solace together. I applaud their social media silence, it’s dignified and feels appropriate.

This.

RubyBoozeDay · 30/10/2023 11:59

They will be shocked, grief-stricken and saddened. In time, I'm pretty sure they will release a joint statement. They don't owe the public anything.

Which, to me, is the normal and right thing to do. OP must be very young and doesn’t understand that life and death (and grief) actually happens in the real world and isn’t validated and confirmed by social bloody media.

LeviOsaNotLeviosaa · 30/10/2023 12:01

If one of my best friend's died suddenly I'd probably be a bit busy mourning to bother with social media.

WTF is wrong with the world? I'd judge them if they had been blathering on twitter tbh.

Someone who they spent every single day with for a decade has just died. Do you not think they've got more important things on their mind than being performative on Instagram?

WITFITTO · 30/10/2023 12:03

This is everything I hate about the modern world.
Nothing is real unless it’s on social media with a photo.
Would you have been happier if they had done one of those fake crying videos? Or said ‘fly high with the angels’. People who instantly get on social media to do shite like that are just doing it for attention. People who really care are too busy actually grieving to care about social media posts.

I expect they're dealing with their grief in their own way. They don't owe Instagram users anything.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 30/10/2023 12:07

It isn't a surprise. They are all very close and they will be devastated.
