None of the Friends Co stars have posted anything on Instagram about Matthew Perry's death

Maybe they have posted elsewhere, just find it strange that none of them appear to have acknowledged it on Instagram, especially as they all seem to be pretty active on there.

OP posts:

This drives me nuts. Social media is not real life. Maybe they are prioritising sympathizing with his family. The societal expectation with death is way off these days!

Tighginn · 30/10/2023 11:23

If I was genuinely in grieving, the last thing on my mind would be social media.

BoohooWoohoo · 30/10/2023 11:23

People need to stop thinking that not posting an immediate public statement means that they don't care.
I actually think that when celebrities post a public statement quickly, it's a possible sign of getting people to react and follow plus get mentioned in tabloids rather than a genuine sign that they care.
I'd imagine that the others are in a state of shock. If they need time to compose their thoughts then they should contact the grieving family rather than make a statement for the public. Celebrity public statements are often written by PR agents and lawyers rather than the stars themselves and the public aren't owed a comment.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 30/10/2023 11:25

And you do realise that most of the shit posted on these famous people's social media is just churned out by their publicists
So those that posted some gushing tribute immediately probably didn't really

ThreeRingCircus · 30/10/2023 11:27

Good god. Social media really is a curse that this sort of thinking seems to be normalised.

Their friend is dead. They are probably in shock, contacting his family and preparing a joint statement.

When someone dies and immediately people are making statements that tells me they weren't that close. The true friends will be processing everything and grieving, not rushing to Instagram to get their name out there. I think their silence speaks to how affected they are by his death and shows dignity.

ElaineMBenes · 30/10/2023 11:28

Their friend has just died. I'm pleased social media isn't the first thing they are thinking of.

BitofaStramash · 30/10/2023 11:29

Their friend has died. 😔

I actually think it's sick that you are ghoulish their instagrams and posting about it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/10/2023 11:29

This modern phenomenon of declaring the depths of your grief on instagram, immediately, is revolting and for those wanting to read it, ghoulish.
They're grieving a friend, FFS.

SkyTree · 30/10/2023 11:30

Honestly, this is the complete opposite of strange. When an actual loved one dies it’s surely the last thing on one’s mind to post on social media?!

I hate the idea that public figures may be worried about being judged by the public, who don’t know the deceased, for not immediately posting on Instagram when someone dies. Talk about having enough on their plates!

ForfarFourEastFifeFive · 30/10/2023 11:30

Posting on social media is about you, not the person you have lost. It’s performative and seeking attention. The dead person doesn’t know you’ve posted it. If you want their friends and family to know how sad you are, send them a card or message directly. There’s something wrong with people who seek attention and sympathy for a bereavement by posting on social media.

LifesADance · 30/10/2023 11:31

Ffs. They will no doubt be shocked, upset and be being respectful to his family.

Stickly · 30/10/2023 11:32

Are you serious? I hate the obsession about social media. He's not a celebrity he was their best friend and they are grieving. Don't you think they need to process this themselves and don't need to indulge strangers comments.

SlothMama · 30/10/2023 11:32

Who cares? The way the press have violated his families privacy in this awful time is just disgusting. Let them process their grief in their own time.

itsmyp4rty · 30/10/2023 11:32

I find it really distasteful when people need to plaster all over SM the death of a friend or family member. But I find the expectation that they should be doing it even more distasteful.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 30/10/2023 11:33

Doubt the OP will be back....

cheezncrackers · 30/10/2023 11:33

WhereDoYouGo1 · 30/10/2023 11:22

I noticed that and was wondering why. Lots of other famous people who knew him commented straight away.

What - the woman who played Janice, who's probably seen him once since the show finished in 2004 and that was at the cringe-worthy reunion with James Corden?

The rest of the cast were actual friends, who I'm sure are far too busy being devastated to craft some carefully worded statement on fucking Instagram.

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 30/10/2023 11:34

Itiswhatitis85 · 30/10/2023 11:11

What is wrong with you?

AutumnSolace · 30/10/2023 11:34

That's what dignity looks like. I'm sure they each want to quietly grieve their very close friend. They don't need to perform circus tricks for the public right now.

I'm quite sure they will release a statement when/if they want to, and when they feel they can do it justice.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 30/10/2023 11:34

Social media virtue signalling obviously isn't their priority. This makes me like them much more.

Stopbloodybanging · 30/10/2023 11:34

I’d find it strange if they were posting so soon after the loss of a close friend.

ImAMinion · 30/10/2023 11:35

It’s been less than 48 hours. To be honest I’m half surprised the news of his death got out as quick as it did anyway. I can only hope that everyone who actually knew him (his real family and friends) got the message before the media spilt it.

Instagram is such a bloody curse. All of social media is. Look what’s it done. How much you are loved is based on followers and likes. You can only possibly be living your best life if it’s splashed all over social media. Even mourning and loss and pain and suffering now has to be broadcast for the world and you’re not truly suffering / mourning / in pain if it’s not.

Yes we feel like these people are our “friends” but we don’t know them, they owe us nothing - not even a joint statement or anything, let the people grieve!

DisforDarkChocolate · 30/10/2023 11:35

I feel incredibly sad about Matthew's death.

I cannot imagine having shared so much with someone and then thinking their early death was an Instagram moment.

Enderunicorn · 30/10/2023 11:35

I'd find it strange if they did. Someone you love dies is the first thing you'd do hop on insta to tell everyone how sad you are? They don't owe anyone their grief.

SirChenjins · 30/10/2023 11:36

They’re probably of the sensible mindset where the devastation you’re feeling at the loss of someone very important in your life doesn’t immediately need to be shared with randoms on SM. Good for them.

Fourlegsandatail · 30/10/2023 11:37

What is acceptable in your view OP? Matt Le Blanc posting selfie saying how sad he is and the rest filming their reaction shots and posting them with sad faces and the hashtag #supersad ???

Social media has turned people into entitled judgmental monsters.
