I'm 35 and I'm currently in a 1 bed flat on band 3 (general needs )
I've been on housing list for 7 years now (same housing list my flats with )
I'm bidding on 2 bed houses and getting up to 20th position
Sometimes 15th ish
Do you think I'm wasting my time ?
What's the chances of me getting a 2 bed house ?

With no DC I'd be very surprised if they thought you needed one.

itsmeagainagain · 26/10/2023 20:41

Very very unlikely unless you have a medical need for two and even then very very unlikely in most areas of the country

funbags3 · 26/10/2023 20:41

There will always be someone on the list that needs it more than you so chances are next to nothing.

Why do you think you need a two bedroomed house?

itsmeagainagain · 26/10/2023 20:42

More chance of doing a swap especially if you have a nicely decorated place

loandbeholdd · 26/10/2023 20:43

It's because I'm in a upstairs flat
I hate it
Doesn't feel like home
I would love a house
Through housing association is the only way I can ever afford it

Pretty much zero. While you can sometimes mutually exchange to a property with a bedroom more than your need, they’ll almost never allocate one. If you’re after a house because you’d like a bit of private garden then may I suggest you go on homeswapper/ exchange and see if you can get a one bed cluster house or general needs bungalow? They occasionally come up.

itsmeagainagain · 26/10/2023 20:45

I really don’t think you will ever get one OP.

Bumblebee2022 · 26/10/2023 20:46

I would assume that the two beds would always (rightly) go to those with a child (or two). Considering there are so many families living in hotels and b and b’s, I would think you would be wasting your time bidding on two bedroom properties.

is there a specific reason you need a second bedroom or do you just want one so you have a spare room for hobbies/people to stay etc?

itsmeagainagain · 26/10/2023 20:46

I would personally be wary of why someone would swap a house though… usually it’s due to ASB

RoseMartha · 26/10/2023 20:49

I would say your best option is a swap

Downstairs there was a lady with a daughter who swapped with a single person.

The single person found it too big and has swapped to a one bed again.

Unicorntearsofgin · 26/10/2023 20:53

Is it for a garden? Could you try swapping for a ground floor flat? Or maisonette? There’s just so little about at the moment it might give you more options

DaftQuestionForToday · 26/10/2023 20:53

Why should you?

private rent if you don't appreciate the HA property you have.
there aren't enough properties for families as it is. Families in B&B's or worse.

I've no idea why you feel it would be justified??

strawberry2017 · 26/10/2023 20:58

You don't need to 2 bedrooms it's really selfish to think you should have one when there are people in genuine need.

loandbeholdd · 26/10/2023 20:59

They never spend any money updating the flats
40 year old kitchen /bathroom etc
Most of the people in flats are on drugs /etc
The houses seem to have decent people in them
I hate where I am

Why on earth do you think you should get a 2 bedroom flat?! As a single person with no children you were lucky to get social housing in the first place. There's a chronic shortage of social housing in most areas and there will be plenty of people in desperate need of 2 bedroom properties that are, rightly, higher priority than you. Look for private rented if you want to move into a 2 bedroom place.

cadburyegg · 26/10/2023 21:00

Your chances are nil

So rent somewhere better 🙄

MyCircumference · 26/10/2023 21:02

no

Comedycook · 26/10/2023 21:03

I'm amazed you even got a one bed flat quite honestly...I thought single adults pretty much had no chance these days

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 26/10/2023 21:03

Can’t you swap area?

loandbeholdd · 26/10/2023 21:03

In my area (north east ) everyone is entitled.
They don't discriminate because your single or unable to have children
I pay full rent on my flat

Everyone is entitled to what? To a social housing property or to apply?

Big difference.

loandbeholdd · 26/10/2023 21:07

@Comedycook to a social housing property

Your options are stay put or rent privately
