What is the worst-tasting drink you have ever had ?

I've had plenty of ropey glasses of water (chemicals, fluoride, iron) and off milk. But my all time champion is Greene King IPA, absolutely the most foul, disgusting beer I have drunk in 34 years of legal alcohol consumption. The one pint I managed to finish didn't taste remotely of beer, more like weak golden syrup with some unspeakable additives. Many years ago, I had a glass of Merlot which tasted like burning rubber. My guess is that it wasn't off but needed longer in the bottle to mature. Regardless, it was horrible.

My late parents were both fans of pastis drinks such as Pernod and Ouzo. Just the smell was enough to put me off. Eww.

Decades ago, I'm reliably informed that the ubiquitous Watney's Red Barrel was the gold standard for witchpiss in the brewing industry.

Lapsang tea tastes like kipper juice
Starbucks coffee is rank, have tried several times at different outlets. All over roasted and burnt

Dogdesperate · 26/10/2023 13:34

BAILEYS 🤢 The taste, texture, smell... You couldn't pay me!

anon0007 · 26/10/2023 13:34

Sheridans. Vile.

I can confirm that Watneys Red Barrel is utterly foul. Almost but not quite put me off underage drinking.

jay55 · 26/10/2023 13:34

Bloody Mary shudder, no idea how they are popular.

I also dislike mixed fruit squash, Vimto the worst offender.

Garlic vodka. I made it myself but may have used a bit much garlic. Filled a bottle with peeled garlic, filled up with vodka nad left it for 6 months. After filtering it was green and oily and utterly foul.

I can’t imagine any amount of garlic being nice in vodka….. is it a thing?

IDoNotMoisturise · 26/10/2023 13:35

endlessfall · 26/10/2023 13:38

I also tried butter beer recently and thought that was horrible!

ElleCapitaine · 26/10/2023 13:38

Earl Grey tea. It’s like drinking 1950s perfume.

sipsqueak · 26/10/2023 13:39

Grapefruit juice

GinJeanie · 26/10/2023 13:43

1970s orange squash with powdered worm medicine mixed in. I still remember 🤢

givemushypeasachance · 26/10/2023 13:43

Tomato juice. I remember trying it as a child and thought it was disgusting. I like tomato sauce type products like pasta sauce - but drinking it was boak.

I was young. I had 20 or 30 bottles of vodka as we used to win the local pub quiz most weeks. Many were made into fruit vodkas but the garlic one and chilli one must have seemed like a good idea at the time.

TigerRag · 26/10/2023 13:45

Whiskey
Cheap decaffeinated coffee
Coconut water

TheTecknician · 26/10/2023 13:45

Raki, ouzo, Pernod are all flavoured with aniseed. Aniseed balls are OK in moderation but not aniseed drinks. No way.

I concur that Earl Grey tea is perfumed nonsense.
