Pretty much that
Going to Lanzarote tomorrow and woke up Sunday with sore throat.
Anyway yesterday I had a lots of phlegm and felt like I had a head cold.
Had a test lying around and it was a strong positive.
I've never had covid before but at the minute it feels like a cold.
No temperature and I haven't lost my appetite /don't feel sick or anything just feel like I have a head cold.
I feel guilty having to get on a plane with covid but if I don't go it's a £3000 holiday
I am okay now to go abroad with covid aren't I?

Seriously?

MintJulia · 24/10/2023 07:40

You know the answer is no. And are you likely to enjoy your holiday if you are ill?

Look at your travel insurance. Many now include Covid cover. If you can cancel, I would, and then rebook when you are feeling better.

rocknrollaa · 24/10/2023 07:41

You obviously can't go. Why would you? You're not going to have a good time and you're going to infect everyone else on the plane.

Of course you can go.

You'll be flamed for it on here though.

Soonthen · 24/10/2023 07:41

Would you go to work? Or to see an elderly relative?

Why would OP want to go though? I genuinely don't get it. They are not going to have a good time surely. And would you be happy if OP was sat behind you on the plane coughing everywhere and potentially ruining your trip as well by passing it on?

Why wouldn't she want to go? She just has (in her words) what feels like a head cold.

It wouldn't bother me if someone was coughing on the plane near me in the slightest - I've flown hundreds of times over the years and there's always someone with a cold or a cough.

QueSyrahSyrah · 24/10/2023 07:45

@rocknrollaa I've been on many a holiday with a head cold and still had a good time?

FWIW I've spent over 40 hours on planes in the last few weeks and haven't given a second thought to anyone else's state of health. OP would be extremely unlikely to be the only covid positive person on the plane, and there'll likely be a good few actual colds and maybe the odd asymptomatic flu at this time of year too.

The mistake OP has made is testing, which now puts them in a moral sticky spot.

It's not a head cold... OP is saying it's Covid so presumably they know it's Covid.

Nothankyou22 · 24/10/2023 07:47

Im abroad now, half the plane was coughing on the way out and didn’t think oh god Covid, just the time of year.

margotrose · 24/10/2023 07:48

Yes, which is presenting like a head cold.

I don't know anyone who would cancel a £3000 holiday for a that - that's just batshit to me. Insurance likely wouldn't pay out either as it's not illegal to travel with Covid anymore,

If Covid didn't exist she wouldn't even be thinking about cancelling.

QueSyrahSyrah · 24/10/2023 07:49

@rocknrollaa I was responding to you stating they wouldn't have a good time. Why ever not if their symptoms are merely that of a head cold?

PlinkyPlonk176 · 24/10/2023 07:52

I’d go OP. Wear a mask, practise good hygiene. Those most at risk should have had a booster vaccine by now, I am eligible and had mine a month ago. Covid is unavoidable now. Most people don’t test anymore so who knows how many people have it, it’s unlikely that you’ll be the only one with it on the plane.

WanderingAroundintheLark · 24/10/2023 07:54

There’s no money back for cancelling now. Unless you got insurance. You could read the small print but otherwise, as much as you will get flamed I think you have no choice to forgo or go. Depends I guess on how sick you feel too. If you got a medical note to say too sick to travel the insurance might pay . ButI think they have a clause saying not paying out for Covid now

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 07:55

There's no legal requirement to isolate now
Travel insurance won't pay out for not going because I have covid

I don't feel unwell at all
I feel like I have a cold
My sore throat is gone
Today I'm just sneezing

There will be many others on the plane with Covid. You only know you have covid because you tested which you didn’t have to do. You won’t get money back from insurance unless you have extra cover. I would go!

margotrose · 24/10/2023 07:57

Just go OP - enjoy your holiday and don't give it a second thought.

DaisyWaldron · 24/10/2023 07:57

I tested positive with COVID. I had cold symptoms for two days. I spent the next ten days in bed, shivering, sweating, coughing so hard I pissed myself and with three days of a headache that no painkiller could shift which meant I couldn't bear daylight.

OP, are you prepared to travel home with full-on COVID symptoms?

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 07:57

I was at a gig Wednesday with a lady next to me who sounded like she had a cold -I'm assuming I caught it from her but could be from anyone.
Also I'm going to work today as we have been told it's not a valid reason anymore

OP posts:
HavfrueDenizKisi · 24/10/2023 07:57

Unequivocally, you should go. Especially if you feel well enough.

I can't believe people are still suggesting you cancel a holiday and lose your cash.

If you'd not tested you would carry on like normal and be none the wiser.

wellthatwentwelldinnit · 24/10/2023 07:58

If it was me I'd go, but that's because I don't have any covid tests lying around, so I would assume it was just a cold.

How many people have tests now that you have to pay for them?

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 07:59

That's true I only had tests in the draw because last year my gran was in hospital and didn't want to take any germs into hospital

OP posts:
fourelementary · 24/10/2023 08:00

People just need to stop testing if they don’t want to know they have covid. My friends child is in hospital on oxygen following covid, many people are experiencing it as far worse than “just a cold”- v and d for days and aches, pains and temperatures. But as long as there have been holidays there have been people who focus on their own holidays and go on planes after puking or knowing they have an unwell child or a child with chicken pox etc. Covid I won’t be any different. Sadly if you’re at risk then it’s on you to be safe and weigh up the risks of an extended period of time in an enclosed space.

On the other hand I've had it twice, cold symptoms for 2 days and then right as rain again.
