Going on holiday tomorrow and I have covid ...

Pretty much that
Going to Lanzarote tomorrow and woke up Sunday with sore throat.
Anyway yesterday I had a lots of phlegm and felt like I had a head cold.
Had a test lying around and it was a strong positive.
I've never had covid before but at the minute it feels like a cold.
No temperature and I haven't lost my appetite /don't feel sick or anything just feel like I have a head cold.
I feel guilty having to get on a plane with covid but if I don't go it's a £3000 holiday
I am okay now to go abroad with covid aren't I?

You should go op, travel insurance won’t pay out if you’re well enough to go, as you don’t have to isolate with covid anymore. Unless these posters who think you shouldn’t leave the house if you have covid are going to pay for you not to go, then go and enjoy your holiday.

Aramist · 24/10/2023 09:07

It's just one of those things.
No way would I be losing 3 grand.

Go, at least you'll have a good chance of enjoying most of it, and you can be sat on a sunbed.

Meadowfly · 24/10/2023 09:07

Hope you have a lovely holiday op. A shame you tested but there will almost certainly be others on the plane with covid who haven’t tested. We need to get used to covid being like a cold and you wouldn’t miss a holiday for a cold. If people are very worried about catching covid that’s a tricky thing to get used to but much the same as trying to avoid flu/colds.

Ah @navyplaint she is some age, bless her.

It's a longish flight to the Canaries but I would wear a mask if you go.
That would mean having nothing to eat or drink on the plane.

Tbh I would be so so conflicted whether to go or not.

voxnihili · 24/10/2023 09:09

Covid is a risk you take travelling on a plane these days as it is no longer a barrier to travel so people will go as insurance won’t pay out.

I’m currently in Tenerife. Half the people around the pool are coughing like mad.

Swirls346 · 24/10/2023 09:10

Definitely go, it's just a cold now. Why did you test ? You don't need to anymore

Sunshineclouds11 · 24/10/2023 09:10

I'd go.
As you know you don't need to test, there'll be people flying with it daily who have no idea it's covid.

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 09:12

I don't even know why I tested tbh
I've never had covid so just thought oh il test

Personally I think anyone travelling while sick is a selfish bastard (and that's not just with covid)

It's not as simple as that though is it? There could be a multitude of people travelling for reason outside of a holiday. My sister just had to fly home last week from Australia for our dads funeral. She was a bit unwell. Could have been covid, might have been a cold, who knows. But if she didn't fly she'd have missed the funeral. It's not as black and white as that.

And I'm saying this as someone with a child going through cancer treatment.

Inastatus · 24/10/2023 09:18

@navyplaint - I had covid about 2 months ago and I only tested because I happened to have some old ones knocking about. It was kind of good to know what was causing my symptoms though (sore throat and headache/tiredness which lasted about 3 days). I wont bother going out to buy them once they run out. Have a lovely holiday.

itsallfunand · 24/10/2023 09:18

If I was feeling okay I'd still go. There are no rules to say you cannot. Most people don't have symptoms and people are not testing anyway. The only reason I wouldn't go was if I didn't feel well enough. I'd probably wear a mask on the plane.

Trickytimer · 24/10/2023 09:18

I tested out of curiosity as was due to book a covid booster and sure enough it was Covid, still feel rough 3 weeks on, can’t remember last time I was so ill.

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 07:59

That's true I only had tests in the draw because last year my gran was in hospital and didn't want to take any germs into hospital

@navyplaint

but you'll take them on a plane with other peoples Nans & vulnerable people & go into work?

How would you feel if other people were so cavalier with your Nan?

it may currently feel like a cold, but it's NOT a cold. Go & read the threads from people who have it now and feel dreadful, started with it feeling like a cold...

Not all vulnerable people have had the jab yet either. I had mine last weekend (so effectiveness yet another week away. A friend this weekend & one next weekend. Depends where you live etc.

just because things aren't illegal doesn't mean it's morally a shit thing to do.

itsallfunand · 24/10/2023 09:23

Quarantino · 24/10/2023 08:03

Please don't go. If you do, please wear a proper filter mask on the plane and in the airport. I'd be devastated if you ruined my holiday or gave me long covid so i can't care for my kid (as has happened to my friend).

I hope you are receiving help for your anxiety.

gotomomo · 24/10/2023 09:24

Just go, a large number of people on the plane are likely to have it too. Honestly there's no point worrying now. To those saying cancel - insurance will not pay out now as there's no requirement to isolate, you might be able to to waste £3k but I sure as hell can't

gotomomo · 24/10/2023 09:26

I have it right now, I'm at work - I have my own office. Can't take time off, too busy!
The only reason I tested is because we had a box here and I was due to have tea with some elderly parishioners, I'm passing on that one but otherwise it's business as usual

itsallfunand · 24/10/2023 09:26

AgnesX · 24/10/2023 08:19

You go right ahead, get on a plane and potentially infect a whole flight full of people who don't deserve it.

Yeah that's absolutely fine🙄

Don't be so ridiculous 🙄

medianewbie · 24/10/2023 09:26

I had this exact difficulty 3 weeks ago.
Not a plane but a minicruise on a ferry.
Much anticipated as 1st time 'abroad' in 23 years (disabled, 2 disabled kids).
I cancelled. All 3 of us went down over a 4 day span, all 3 ill for nearly 3 wks.
So, not well enough to travel but also would not want to pass on what is, for some, rather a nasty strain (D&V, plus Flu symptoms, plus total exhaustion)

prescribingmum · 24/10/2023 09:27

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 08:08

It's frustrating as I always use my hand gel after touching cash points /handles etc
Wash my hands constantly
Yet still caught it
It's playing out same as a cold for me
Scratchy sore throat
Yesterday tickly cough
Now today that's gone and my nose is running like a tap

It is mostly spread through airborne droplets which all the handwashing in the world can’t prevent

Most travel insurance policies treat Covid like any other illness, not a communicable disease (as PPs are incorrectly informing you). This means they will cover costs if you have Covid and are too unwell to travel because of the illness. They do not cover you avoiding travel to prevent spread.

Many posters will condemn you for being irresponsible, spreading disease, what about immunosuppressed etc etc but this is the way the world is (and always has been). Those who are immunosuppressed need to assess the risk if travelling and take necessary precautions in case someone on the flight does have Covid. I’m saying this as the daughter of a parent undergoing chemotherapy and currently immunosuppressed

It’s up to those who are vulnerable and worried about covid to take measures to protect themselves, such as wearing proper masks or not travelling on a plane. It’s not up to everyone else when there is no requirement to isolate anymore and travel insurance won’t pay out for covid anymore.

PinkRoses1245 · 24/10/2023 09:27

You shouldn’t have tested, if you can physically travel then do it. Majority of people would never test

Exactly this.

Anewuser · 24/10/2023 09:28

Your mistake wasn’t testing - it was posting here.

Do whatever you want to do. A bunch of randoms aren’t going to tell you it’s ok to take covid onto a plane but the reality is, there are germs everywhere and anyone who travels know they take a risk if catching something.

TheChosenTwo · 24/10/2023 09:28

You won’t be the only one on a plane with Covid.
I wouldn’t be cancelling and losing a holiday because of it and I’m genuinely surprised that people are doing this.
Go on holiday, rest and enjoy some sunshine.
Wear a mask on the plane.
