Going on holiday tomorrow and I have covid ...

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 07:36

Pretty much that
Going to Lanzarote tomorrow and woke up Sunday with sore throat.
Anyway yesterday I had a lots of phlegm and felt like I had a head cold.
Had a test lying around and it was a strong positive.
I've never had covid before but at the minute it feels like a cold.
No temperature and I haven't lost my appetite /don't feel sick or anything just feel like I have a head cold.
I feel guilty having to get on a plane with covid but if I don't go it's a £3000 holiday
I am okay now to go abroad with covid aren't I?

All those people saying 'don't go', implying they wouldn't go, I don't believe for a moment you'd wave goodbye to £3k just like that.
Travel insurance will only cover you if you CAN'T go. You'd need medical proof that you are too ill to travel. Which OP isn't.

Inastatus · 24/10/2023 08:36

AgnesX · 24/10/2023 08:19

You go right ahead, get on a plane and potentially infect a whole flight full of people who don't deserve it.

Yeah that's absolutely fine🙄

@agnesx - whenever I’ve flown, pre and post covid, I usually come back with some sort of cold/sore throat, planes are notorious for spreading germs. However you can’t expect everyone with mild cold symptoms to cancel holidays/work trips etc.

madeinmanc · 24/10/2023 08:36

Double mask or blue masks are useless here, you need the kind I have linked to.

If you’re going to go anyway, why did you start this thread?

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 24/10/2023 08:38

Go, enjoy your holiday and I hope it clears up for you quickly.

I wouldn't lose £3k over it that's for sure. And for those worrying about it, that's your risk to assess and choose not to travel or go anywhere, but life goes on, and the rules are now you can carry on with daily life.

Crunchymum · 24/10/2023 08:39

I don't understand why people test if they are just going to do as they please regardless?

I wouldn't want to lose a £3k holiday but I wouldn't have tested (for the symptoms the OP describes and the severity etc)

Applerumleandcustard · 24/10/2023 08:40

I’d go
I had what I assume was Covid when I came back from a holiday .
I didn’t test , it just felt like a cold …. Until I’d been out for the day with a friend ( in her car ) and she said something about the horrid smell of drains as we were walking round , which I couldn’t smell at all
She didn’t catch it from me

Sothisiit · 24/10/2023 08:40

The symptoms of Covid are so mild now and assimilate with a normal cold.
Personally I'd dose up, wear an FPP2 mask to protect others, cleanse frequently and head on out to you holiday.
Obviously just avoid social contact as much as possible.
The world doesn't stop for covid anymore.

Purplerain0505 · 24/10/2023 08:42

I wouldn’t have tested, but I would also just go if I were you. There will be other people on the plane and in the hotel with Covid who don’t realise anyway.

Twiglets1 · 24/10/2023 08:43

I agree it’s pointless testing these days especially as they are no longer free for most of us. I won’t be testing again so next time I have something that feels like a cold or flu I will be thinking it is that, or maybe Covid, who knows?

I wouldn’t want to travel on a plane with a cold/cough but people do it all the time and it’s always been an unpleasant risk of travelling by plane that you share the same air as sick people.

madeinmanc · 24/10/2023 08:44

I have thought about it and 3M FFP3 might be a bit much for you if you're not used to it, so the FFP2 would be best probably.

Fuckitydoodah · 24/10/2023 08:45

I'm aware it's selfish, but I'd absolutely still be going on holiday. There's no insurance for holiday cancellation for Covid. I don't know anyone who could afford to lose out on a £3k holiday.

So many people will be getting on planes with covid and won't even have tested. It's up to individuals how they deal with the risk. Some people will mask up and use hand gel etc to try not to get infected, some won't.

Try and be conscious of others, but you can't feel bad about going.

BitofaStramash · 24/10/2023 08:45

Get a good quality mask today and go.

Lealea4 · 24/10/2023 08:48

It's a tough decision, but I'd probably go, but I'd wear a mask. But if I felt really bad tomorrow, I wouldn't go. I know you don't want to lose 3,000 pounds - that's a lot. The incubation period is supposedly 4-5 days from what I read somewhere, so it is possible you're past the worst of it. But it's individual and you can still be infectious.

Roselilly36 · 24/10/2023 08:49

We have just come back from abroad, honestly, the amount of people coughing on the plane, the transfers etc. some of the must have had Covid, no one batted an eyelid, if you feel ok just go, get out in the sunshine. And I write this as someone medically vulnerable. We need to get back to normal. I hope you feel better soon OP and have a wonderful holiday.

Beezknees · 24/10/2023 08:52

I would go, but I wouldn't even have tested.

It is so silly to test if you intend on going anyway. I assume nowadays that the people who are still testing are people who intend to stay at home if they test positive. It's a pointless exercise otherwise.

Funderthighs · 24/10/2023 08:52

Just go….and have a lovely time.

LadyEloise1 · 24/10/2023 08:53

Off topic but I'm just amazed that your Dad is in his 80s and you had a test lying around because your gran was in hospital and you didn't want to take a chance when visiting her.
If it's your Dad's Mum she must be some age ! !
Or is it your Mum's Mum ?

Justhereforaibu1 · 24/10/2023 08:54

I was the world's most cautious person during covid, but I would go. Wear a mask and enjoy your holiday.

margotrose · 24/10/2023 08:56

Who are all these people who would genuinely cancel a £3000 holiday over a runny nose?

Bearing in mind insurance won't pay out so you'd lose your money too.

Snazzysausage · 24/10/2023 08:59

This is exactly the type of post I don't get.The op asked if they should go on holiday knowing they have COVID. Varying answers as expected but is going anyway as their posts make it obvious there was no way they were seriously considering not going. What on earth was the point of asking.

Inastatus · 24/10/2023 09:01

@Snazzysausage - probably to just garner opinion to make her feel better about going ... I’m pleased to see that the majority of posters agree that she should go and hopefully she will be getting on that plan without feeling guilty.

Inastatus · 24/10/2023 09:02

plane

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 09:04

@LadyEloise1 my dad is 81
It's my late mums mum,she is 98
My dad was in his 40s -mum in 20s when they had me.
My gran had a broken hip and didn't want to risk anything else

I'm just back from Malta. A group of six of us went and three of us have since tested positive for COVID. None of us have previously had it. I'm back at work despite feeling a bit shit. It is what it is - rife and generally no big deal. I'd rather keep it to myself but that's not an option and nor would be my expectation of someone cancelling their holiday on my behalf
