Pretty much that
Going to Lanzarote tomorrow and woke up Sunday with sore throat.
Anyway yesterday I had a lots of phlegm and felt like I had a head cold.
Had a test lying around and it was a strong positive.
I've never had covid before but at the minute it feels like a cold.
No temperature and I haven't lost my appetite /don't feel sick or anything just feel like I have a head cold.
I feel guilty having to get on a plane with covid but if I don't go it's a £3000 holiday
I am okay now to go abroad with covid aren't I?

What would you have done if you didn't have the test?

Escapetofrance · 24/10/2023 09:38

Wear a very good mask in public transport if you’re going. I wouldn’t want to be sat next to you. Not just because it’s covid, but because you’re unwell.

almondfinger · 24/10/2023 09:40

Go, enjoy yourself. Your biggest problem was posting here asking for advice.

Of course you go if you feel well enough to. You'll already be 3 days in and feeling much better for most of your holiday.

There's no guidance, I don't even know why you tested tbh! You will lose all your money if you don't, you're not unwell enough for travel insurance to cover you.

Wear a mask on the plane, go and have a good time.

Sdpbody · 24/10/2023 09:47

I would go... Enjoy your holiday.

Nitgel · 24/10/2023 09:48

go, go go, enjoy

Babochan88 · 24/10/2023 09:49

Of course you should go OP!!

covid is like a cold now - and no legal requirement to isolate! Don’t lose the money and your break. Better to recover in the sun I say

I agree she should go but "covid is like a cold" isn't true.

@navyplaint

but you'll take them on a plane with other peoples Nans & vulnerable people & go into work?

How would you feel if other people were so cavalier with your Nan?

it may currently feel like a cold, but it's NOT a cold. Go & read the threads from people who have it now and feel dreadful, started with it feeling like a cold...

Not all vulnerable people have had the jab yet either. I had mine last weekend (so effectiveness yet another week away. A friend this weekend & one next weekend. Depends where you live etc.

just because things aren't illegal doesn't mean it's morally a shit thing to do.

Oh give over, a plane and a hospital are not even close to the same thing. Stop with this bullshit "so you're ok with killing someone's nan?" guilt tripping bollocks.

I'm immunocompromised and classed as "vulnerable", so I take the necessary precautions for myself when traveling, as do all other vulnerable people I know. My health is not now and never has been anyone else's responsibility, covid or no covid.

Topseyt123 · 24/10/2023 09:52

Of course you should go. I don't get why you even tested. Very few other people are, and I can't remember the last time I did. I have my annual boosters and carry on with life.

We are now living with Covid all around us going in regular cycles.

Just bin the tests and go and enjoy your holiday. Wear a mask on the plane if you think it would make you feel better, though I doubt I would even do that.

allsfairin · 24/10/2023 09:56

I am getting on a plane tomorrow. This is a treat to celebrate the end of chemotherapy, If someone else on the plane knowingly got on the plane with covid I won't write down what I would wish to do with them

Totally agree.

Honestly, this hysteria around Covid needs to end.

Most wouldn't know. Testing isn't a widespread thing anymore.

I don't have any tests left and won't be getting any further ones.

I'm glad you have reached the end of your chemo and I wish you well there. I get why you feel cautious and vulnerable but you can't say that nobody with a sniffle or sore throat can go on holiday because it might be Covid. They just won't know anyway.

Congratulations on finishing chemo.
Will you be wearing a mask? (Not being sarcy, just wondering if it’s a precaution you’re taking!!)
There will be many people on that plane with all sorts of contagious viruses - some will know, some won’t.

But it is for most people.

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 10:12

@allsfairin congratulations on finishing chemo
But without sounding rude if you leave your house run the risk of coming into contact with a virus
If your that bothered don't get on a plane
Sorry

If you go, do the right thing and wear a mask. I really hate it when obviously sick people cough and splutter all over others. Respiratory illnesses make me very ill so I certainly wouldn't appreciate it

notimagain · 24/10/2023 10:13

@allsfairin

Congratulations on getting through the chemo.

I don’t what to be unsympathetic but I know a few people who have had to travel shortly after finishing chemo or even right at the back end of ongoing treatment, myself included.

I’m afraid you have to accept there’s a risk and take your own precautions because @TheChosenTwo is absolutely right in saying

There will be many people on that plane with all sorts of contagious viruses - some will know, some won’t

That has always been the case, even well before Covid.

Condo · 24/10/2023 10:16

Of course you can go, I don’t know why you tested. If you would go with a cold you can go with covid.

allsfairin · 24/10/2023 10:17

yes it is a risk, but I have hardly had a chance to be anywhere but home or hospital for the last 18 months.

Of course I am aware that it is likely there are people around with covid who don't know they have it - but on a plane, where the air is recyled, I expect people to be a bit more careful.

And the idea of someone deliberately getting onto a plane with covid totally blows my mind. You KNOW on a plane you will expose everyone.

How will you sleep for the rest of your life not knowing who you infected and whether they lived or died?

niclw · 24/10/2023 10:18

Have you considered getting another test and testing again? My dad gave me covid. I tested positive for two weeks whereas he was without symptoms and testing negative in a couple of days. You may find that you are now testing negative.

Topseyt123 · 24/10/2023 10:20

LuckySantangelo35 · 24/10/2023 10:08

It absolutely IS like a cold for many people. It was for me when I had it about 18 months ago.

It left me with a bad chest infection which needed antibiotics to clear up, but many colds do that to me too.

Of course, being like a cold doesn't mean it actually is a cold, but to me it felt no different at all.

That is a fact, and it isn't silly.

Hbh17 · 24/10/2023 10:22

Assuming no restrictions in the country to which you are flying, of course you can go on holiday, OP.
Your only mistake was to take the test, so just stop!

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 10:24

@allsfairin oh get a grip
How will I sleep knowing who lived or died ?
You could be in Tesco next to someone who has covid or a cold or flu and have no idea
You can't live the rest of your life like that
What's the point
If people are particularly vulnerable it's up to them to protect themselves
It's not up to everyone else to go through life worrying about other people
I will wear a mask and cover my mouth if I cough or sneeze ,wash hands etc.
That's as far as I'm going with it
