If you aren't having a takeaway tonight, what's on the menu for dinner?

I have always had a Friday takeaway for as long as I can remember. I'm also saving for a wedding so trying to cut this down a bit and cook at home.

But sooooo exhausted come Fridays that I always cave! I've realised how much I've eaten out this week and spent on it so about to head to the supermarket.

What do you have on a Friday for a fuss free dinner - whether a bit of a treat or general everyday stuff.. I need to have a word with myself and get inspired for ideas that feel exciting or just super easy on a Friday!

We had salmon fillets baked in the over with roasted Mediterranean vegetables and cous cous.

This thread is making me hungry!
I'll be having pizza shortly and then later I'll probably need crisps to soak up the Prosecco I'm going to drink whilst DH & I binge watch some TV. It's our Friday night ritual & pretty much the only night we actually sit down together

Sausage casserole with mash potatoes, carrots and tenderstem brocoli. DH opened a bottle of homemade Mead....which is going down nicely 🍷🤪

Ready prepared salmon en croute with some broccoli. So tasty and less than £6 for two!

Vebrithien · 20/10/2023 20:25

Sticky soy and sweet chilli bacon and prawns, with shallots, rocket and avocado salad. Plus sweet potato fries. And a glass of prosecco.

Well, that is what DH had. I had vege bacon, griddled broccoli and peanuts, instead of the meat and fish.

More fancy pants than we usually have on a Friday, but our weekend away has been cancelled due to family illness. So the children had garlic cheesy pasta, and I'm celebrating the end of term!!

Spaghetti with sauce - onion, celery, mushroom, splosh of white wine (optional), salmon cheap bits & stir in large dollop of garlic roule.

DH and DS had Steak, chips and onion rings

I had Frittata, new potatoes and Salad (I'm veggie)

Sat night is take away night in our house - highlight of the week!

5 minute daal that someone posted on a thread on MN.
It takes about 1/2hr if you count the prep.
Had it with naan bread. So easy and SO tasty. One pan to wash

Oven scampi and sweet potato chips with a whole tin of marrowfat peas covered in salt and vinegar. I have this any time my husband is away.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 20/10/2023 20:53

In the time it took to cook rice I made broccoli in black bean sauce. It also had seitan, white beetroot and fine green beans in it. It vanished very quickly.

Our standard Friday night 'beige tea' - skin-on oven chips & sweet potato fries, Aldi fake chicken burgers & onion rings. It's our alternative to a takeaway, and the only time when food is predictable!

Can you share a recipe please?

longtompot · 20/10/2023 22:30

I did kung pao chicken with noodles. The sauce is from a packet and is as spicy as the takeaway one we get. I added red onion, green beans and carrot ribbons and it was very good

Mindovermatter247 · 20/10/2023 22:35

me & DS had chicken wrap and rice and dd had sausage, mash & veg.
