If you aren't having a takeaway tonight, what's on the menu for dinner?

I have always had a Friday takeaway for as long as I can remember. I'm also saving for a wedding so trying to cut this down a bit and cook at home.

But sooooo exhausted come Fridays that I always cave! I've realised how much I've eaten out this week and spent on it so about to head to the supermarket.

What do you have on a Friday for a fuss free dinner - whether a bit of a treat or general everyday stuff.. I need to have a word with myself and get inspired for ideas that feel exciting or just super easy on a Friday!

Homemade satay with chickpeas, literally took 10 minutes to make, having with rice and garlic naan!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/10/2023 17:56

Gnocchi with fresh pesto, feta cheese, and garlic flatbread. (None of it home-made.)

What would you get from the takeaway?

DH isn’t feeling well and doesn’t want dinner. I’ve fed the kids and I’ll probably just have crisps and wine and maybe toast.

(I was going to do chicken stuffed with pesto and cheese and wrapped in bacon, with potato wedges and veg. Guess we’ll have that another day)

Chesterdrawls · 20/10/2023 18:01

Lamb Rogan Josh which has been in the slow cooker all day, with homemade nan.......really looking forward to it!

gotomomo · 20/10/2023 18:01

Chicken katsu curry - cheating though, bought breaded chicken steaks from Lidl, curry is a chopped onion sauted, chopped fresh chilli, cube of frozen ginger (world foods aisle) 2 tbsp curry powder, can coconut milk and tbsp honey. Served with rice and picked cucumber (chop cucumber and pickle in a little rice or apple cider vinegar, mustard seeds, sugar and salt)

We're having chicken burgers and home made chips. Dp is cooking tonight, he starts work extra early so had a bit if time to cook on a Friday. Previously when we both finished later we would have something from the freezer such as chilli, or pre made spaghetti bolognese or a curry we had frozen that I only needed to add rice or pasta to.

therealcookiemonster · 20/10/2023 18:02

cream of cauliflower soup... and I have some leftover Japanese mushroom rive with gochujang

Leftover chili from yesterday. It was made with pork tenderloin, black beans, and corn plus a spicy tomato sauce and half a large jar of salsa.

FuckingHellAdele · 20/10/2023 18:04

Gochujang and Miso Butter Chicken, with rice for the rice eaters, and some sweet potato wedges for me.

CloseYourMouthLynn · 20/10/2023 18:05

Camembert with chimichurri steak skewers and bread. Can't wait!

hanahsaunt · 20/10/2023 18:06

Salmon fillet baked in the oven, green veg, oven chips. Minimal effort, reasonably healthy and very tasty.

peachescariad · 20/10/2023 18:07

Gourmet burgers....chicken thigh burgers with crispy bacon, avocado, cheese, garlic Mayo and salad in brioche buns and beef dripping fries from Aldi.

We work 24/7 shifts so Friday nights are ordinary evenings for us. However it's our wedding anniversary this evening (17 years possibly - so many we no longer buy cards lol) so I have made a decent dinner

beef bourgignon with mash and savoy cabbage
creme brûlée
Pevensey Level blue cheese with biscuits
chocolates from Audrey's in Hove

TodayForTomorrow · 20/10/2023 18:09

Chicken and chorizo paella. Would have fancied a takeaway but had one earlier in the week.

DinnaeFashYersel · 20/10/2023 18:10

aldi tempura fish burgers with home made wedges

7Worfs · 20/10/2023 18:13

“Homemade” pizzas (with bought dough).
Popular toppings tonight were mozzarella, tuna and olives.

bellac11 · 20/10/2023 18:14

Egg and chips sounds great, so comforing

Ive got some chicken I already cooked in the slow cooker with the remnants of a tabouli salad out of a pot, with some peas, sweetcorn and french beans. Probably with a dollop of whatever condiment needs using up the quickest. What a sad tea!!!

mrsbyers · 20/10/2023 18:14

I’m having hot and sour soup , I buy six at a time from local Chinese takeaway and this is my last one so will need to restock , been sick all week with covid so this is all I really fancy
