I appologise in advance if I'm posting this in wrong place. I hoping I can get some advice.

I just had a tesco delivery, when I was taking food in to house my son was helping me, he suddenly noticed there was a cat inside delivery van where customers food is stored and it was walking all over another customers food.

We told the delivery driver and pointed out the cat, at first he didn't seem that bothered even joked that it happens often. Eventually he slowly walked back to van and instead of trying to get cat out quickly, he tried to stroke it, cat eventually jumped out and ran away.

I'm pretty sure it didn't get near my food but feel sorry for the other customers who have no idea a cat has walked all over there food.

Should I contact Tesco's and say something or just leave it.

What would you do.

I'd be more concerned the cat has jumped in van somewhere else and is now in your street nowhere near home.

Respectfully, it’s very unlikely that a cat is likely to urinate on vegetables in a van. It’s very much not in their nature.

No, they prefer to use my own veg patch as a toilet.

HirplesWithHaggis · 15/10/2023 03:09

I'm aware OP has left the thread, but a couple of pp have said rats pee everywhere because they don't have/can't control their bladders. Not true, that's mice. Rats are actually cleaner.

I’d
Forget it and
move on.

A beautiful haiku.

Lottle · 15/10/2023 04:57

Ew. It would bother me definitely

These days food delivered isnt put in shopping bags it's put loose in to crates. That's why I was concerned. None of my shopping was in bags .

I thought maybe I was over thinking it but what if the cat had wee all over the food.

I know the cat he is a bit of a menace.just thought it was unhygienic.

I have bad news for you OP

When the delivery driver arrives at mine as the crates are emptied the cat jumps in to inspect them.

@HerMammy

They have written procedures of what to do. I asked because mine likes to inspect van and men and I always warn them so they don't drive away.

One of the drivers told me about getting to a delivery, opening the door and finding a really aggressive pissed off cat. He had to go back to a previous customer where the cat had got in.

That sounds like more of a natural behaviour yeah, not something that’s particularly noteworthy though. There must be tonnes of wildlife having a wee on your carrots!

I once saw a dog cock its leg up on a delivery of bread rolls left on the street outside a cafe in central London. Don't panic it was in the 1970s. I don't think you get lone wandering dogs in central London any more and hopefully they've improved the bread delivery protocol. Now that is disgusting 🫣.

GroanWoman · 15/10/2023 13:22

Wouldn't occur to me to even think twice about this.
But then again there is currently a cat sitting on my kitchen worktop!

BringItOnxxx · 15/10/2023 13:25

Are you trying to get the poor delivery driver sacked??? What was he supposed to do? Shoot the cat?

HerMammy · 15/10/2023 16:23

@sashh
They might have protocol but if the cat leaps out what can they do?
I've scanned a cat 20miles from home that a Sky guy managed to keep in his van, returned home, many aren't so lucky.

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 15/10/2023 16:25

It could have happened on any van, not just Tesco. It isn't their fault the streets are full of cats ffs. The option is there to either go shopping or 'click and collect'. It wouldn't bother me

Realitea · 15/10/2023 18:25

If you know what goes on the packaging of food, a cat is the least of your worries.
in our tesco, people see rats running around! Not that it’s acceptable but there is a lot that goes on before it gets to your door

Personally I’d advise Tesco cats poo carries the risk of toxoplasmosis which is extremely dangerous to pregnant women & extremely unpleasant for anyone getting it; cat urine even from a female has a very unpleasant odour it’s just a nasty thought isn’t it & cats aren’t very clean animals they scavenge through bins; dig in soil to go to the loo etc it’s not helpful the driver being so blaze about it he really should be closing the door as soon as he has removed each delivery; you don’t need the abuse you’ve received either you actually had a very valid & interesting point.

You are correct that cats can carry diseases and parasites but so can the rats and mice that are in the factories and warehouses where the food is stored (and the cats that hunt them).

Let’s not also forget the pickers and packers who may not wash their hands.

Blogswife · 15/10/2023 19:00

Hilarious , my cat used to do this !
The food will all be wrapped so can’t see what the issue is . I used to work in a supermarket when I was a student , the warehouse was full of mice !

Aposterhasnoname · 15/10/2023 19:00

Wait till you find out where that food was grown.

I'd be more worried about the cat being lost, wouldn't bother me at all about him walking over any food.

This.

Yawn....... Some of you really do have miserable, joyless, lives!

gamerchick · 15/10/2023 19:19

Probably shouldn't take a look inside a supermarket warehouse then.

LalaPaloosa · 15/10/2023 19:22

No, it really doesn’t. Coming from
someone allergic to cats, I can’t see how this would cause a problem

😂😂😂😻. I think you would very quickly notice cat shit on your groceries.

cats really don’t often shit in places like vans - they do their business in soil and places they can bury their poo.

I am shocked that some people don’t wash loose groceries like apples. The cat likely only walked on plastic packaging. But please wash loos fruit and vegetables before you eat them 🤢🤢🤢

Chestnutlover · 15/10/2023 19:39

Err a fox, badger, bird, rat, spider has been all over your food at some point. Vegetables/ grain grow in fields, meat comes from a farm

Sillyname63 · 15/10/2023 19:50

The crates are on runners and it would have to be a real Houdini to be able to get into the baskets, mind you some cats are,😂 I think you can tell who likes or dislikes cats from the answers😹

MsRachelDoesItBetter · 15/10/2023 20:02

Ok but you realise someone has probably lost their cat now? Their cat has probably hopped in the Tesco van elsewhere and hopped back out possibly at a whole different place. Could be miles away :(
