I appologise in advance if I'm posting this in wrong place. I hoping I can get some advice.

I just had a tesco delivery, when I was taking food in to house my son was helping me, he suddenly noticed there was a cat inside delivery van where customers food is stored and it was walking all over another customers food.

We told the delivery driver and pointed out the cat, at first he didn't seem that bothered even joked that it happens often. Eventually he slowly walked back to van and instead of trying to get cat out quickly, he tried to stroke it, cat eventually jumped out and ran away.

I'm pretty sure it didn't get near my food but feel sorry for the other customers who have no idea a cat has walked all over there food.

Should I contact Tesco's and say something or just leave it.

What would you do.

I mean there’s chemicalsX pesticides and god knows what else all over your loose veg. This is why you wash it.

Twinklewonderkins · 14/10/2023 22:44

If the cat”s a menace OP I’d ring 111.
He’s deffo casing that van so he can perform a heist on one and pinch all the Dreamies.

At least if a cat's in there you know it's highly unlikely that the rats and mice are still in there...

Rats and mice walk all over your food in the shops and warehouses.

^ This! A cat is the least of it!!!

Pretendthatwearedead · 14/10/2023 22:55

I think there is too big a risk that the delivery guy could lose his job. I would just leave it.

Itham · 14/10/2023 23:03

I had a Tesco delivery this afternoon, I'm not the slightest bit bothered if a cat walked on it. I'm more concerned about human contamination as my DH is extremely vulnerable.

I’d report it just in case and tbh hearing this story I feel kind of vindicated that I keep up the habit I developed during the pandemic of wiping down everything I get from my weekly grocery delivery. Who knows what’s /who’s been inside the van 😂 plus many supermarkets have pest problems so things could have ran over your food packages in store rooms too.

HoppingPavlova · 14/10/2023 23:09

I take it that when my food is growing it will likely have bird wee/poo drop on it, most will wash off with rain, then mice scurrying over it. Once harvested and warehoused I suspect rats and cockroaches have likely danced on it. That’s my baseline expectation. I cat walking over it really wouldn’t raise an eyebrow.

Doiordontigiveone · 14/10/2023 23:12

The crates they deliver in are probably more dirty than your Loo. A cat is the least of anyone's worries

Dedsec2023 · 14/10/2023 23:12

one thinks asking "what's new pussy cat"

babyproblems · 14/10/2023 23:12

I was hoping the cat was your cat op and it had gone on a delivery round by mistake before being brought home by the delivery driver 😂 like a modern version of Postman Pats’ Jess.
Im a bit disappointed.

The food is definitely wrapped and covered.. if you’ve never seen the back of a working supermarket/food depot, let me tell you a cat walking on it is the least of your worries.. there’s many other four legged friends who live in such environments!!!!

quantumbutterfly · 14/10/2023 23:14

it's hardly a catastrophe.

GregoryFluff · 14/10/2023 23:14

To my absolute mortification, my cat got in the funeral director's car with my neighbour's deceased wife

That was fucking awkward. "I'm incredibly sorry for your loss, can I please just grab my cat?"

I'm feeling my cheeks heat up with shame just remembering it

This wouldn't bother me in the slightest

MehtotheChristmasrunup · 14/10/2023 23:15

I work in a supermarket. I see so many people letting their kids chew on stuff as they walk round the shop. To be fair it’s probably doing their immunity no end of good but be aware people have dropped, coughed, sneezed and touched everything.

Oh. I thought this was going to be how the driver accidentally drove away with your cat.

If it was a rat, I might be stressed over it.

What, like all those rats that live in the warehouses and distribution centres, you mean?

Or all those wild ones out in the fields?

Or been down the trousers of attempted shoplifters

dutysuite · 15/10/2023 00:00

How did the cat get near the food? The food in delivery vans are kept in crates with lids and coolers.

Mydogmybestfriend · 15/10/2023 00:10

You do know rats regularly walk over food stored and wee on it as they cannot control their bladders. Which is why I always wipe coke cans before I drink from them

junbean · 15/10/2023 00:20

What do you think happens to your food before it gets to you, before the store, etc? Produce is covered in bugs, eggs, etc. I've even seen workers pissing on produce they just harvested from the fields. It all comes from outdoors, unless it's hydroponic. Animals have likely touched it already. Go look up what's legally allowed in our food. Rat droppings, bone fragments, etc. all legally allowed within certain limits. Your food was never clean to begin with.

DiscoBeat · 15/10/2023 00:26

But food is packaged so no cat would be in contact with it. Hope it got home safely!
