I appologise in advance if I'm posting this in wrong place. I hoping I can get some advice.

I just had a tesco delivery, when I was taking food in to house my son was helping me, he suddenly noticed there was a cat inside delivery van where customers food is stored and it was walking all over another customers food.

We told the delivery driver and pointed out the cat, at first he didn't seem that bothered even joked that it happens often. Eventually he slowly walked back to van and instead of trying to get cat out quickly, he tried to stroke it, cat eventually jumped out and ran away.

I'm pretty sure it didn't get near my food but feel sorry for the other customers who have no idea a cat has walked all over there food.

Should I contact Tesco's and say something or just leave it.

What would you do.

You know that people touch the shopping to put it into crates and things etc?
I wouldn’t do anything about it. It’s just the same as getting food out the supermarket. People are dirty too.

Rats and mice walk all over your food in the shops and warehouses.

This

Just wash your food always cat or no cat.

If it was a rat, I might be stressed over it.

There's probably a rat in the warehouse.

I never made this post just to be insulted. I thought mumsnet was better than than this.

I'm sorry if my question was obviously stupid. I'm not hanging around here to be insulted any more by a pack of bullys.

You have clearly all made your mind up that I'm stupid.

I'm done.

Weeing over the crates would be a really odd thing for a cat to do...

I wouldn't worry, that shopping has seen worse on its journey to the customers house

PaminaMozart · 14/10/2023 20:04

And of course the people who pick the fruitx and vegetables have excellent toilets and handwash facilities!

Oh wait... 😂

LouOrange · 14/10/2023 20:04

Oh no! Next the spiders will be rubbing their willies on it!

catsnhats11 · 14/10/2023 20:04

I think people are trying to reassure you, you don't sound stupid at all, if only more people were so considerate. Still I wouldn't worry about the cat on this occasion.

MassageForLife · 14/10/2023 20:06

I find this hard to believe.

When they deliver, they are under very strict instructions about how they go about it - they get all the food for the customer out of the van, lock the van, then take the food to the customer's house. This isn't in case cats get in the van, it's in case someone steals either the van or the food.

I've had deliveries from different supermarkets over the last ten or so years. I have never seen someone leave the van unlocked..

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 14/10/2023 20:08

Our friendly neighbourhood cat loves the Waitrose van he's checking if I've bought him tuna🤷🏼‍♀️

WhichOfThePickwickTripletsDidIt · 14/10/2023 20:08

Kind of confused as to why OP thinks she's been insulted and bullied Confused

MyGooseisTotallyLoose · 14/10/2023 20:10

Sounds like delivery passed the vigorous feline inspection. I'd be pleased!

HughCanoe · 14/10/2023 20:11

Our delivery is done in stages where several crates are unloaded and brought to the door before s/he goes back for the next lot. A cat could theoretically nip into van.

HughCanoe · 14/10/2023 20:11

It's Tesco too.

dandelionandburdock36 · 14/10/2023 20:13

Respectfully, it’s very unlikely that a cat is likely to urinate on vegetables in a van. It’s very much not in their nature.

Boopeedoop · 14/10/2023 20:14

I used to stack shelves, a cat on wrapped food is the least of.your worries!
Stuff would come in covered in bird poo, mouse and rat droppings, had a mouse nest in a pack of drinks. Rats and mice run around on the loading bays, despite the poison boxes.

StSwithinsDay · 14/10/2023 20:15

I think if you use your critical thinking skills you will realise that a cat walking for a short space of time on crated food is not really a problem in the great scheme of things.

Thedm · 14/10/2023 20:16

You know that rats and mice and all sorts have walked over all the food before it gets to you, right? And the tops of cans have been urinated on by wee animals in warehouses. Traces of iron are found on almost all food packaging. And fresh food. Which is why you wash that.

Really, a cat jumping about hardly matters.

I didn't consider a bigger order - mine are usually two to four crates. If it was more then it makes sense that they would have to make more trips.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/10/2023 20:18

Cats don’t just wander around weeing, like mice! Ours doesn’t go far - in our garden or next door - but she has a very specific place she toilets, right at the back of our garden by trees.

I often walk my neighbour’s dog and she is DESPERATE to get into any vans or cars that are open! I always have her on a lead, but once had a very funny exchange with some furniture removal guys who offered to take her with them. Here’s your sofa and a random cocker spaniel, madam.

PurplePansy05 · 14/10/2023 19:52

Food was wrapped and if it wasn't people need to wash it anyway.

You do realise how dirty delivery vans and crates are, even if you can't see it 😂

You are being ridiculous, OP.

Giving your cat a round of applause. 👏😸

EarlofShrewsbury · 14/10/2023 20:23

Our local morrisons used to have a resident cat. He would sneak in andsleep on the shelves and wander the aisles.

Morrisons tried to deter him but it was no good and eventually they stopped trying.

When he died a brass statue of him was installed in the lobby as a tribute.

Open doors on food delivery vans is very normal round me, in fact I recently walked past one with the engine running, I remember thinking I could have hopped in and driven off

No way do all the drivers lock the doors when they are trundling the crates up drives
