I appologise in advance if I'm posting this in wrong place. I hoping I can get some advice.

I just had a tesco delivery, when I was taking food in to house my son was helping me, he suddenly noticed there was a cat inside delivery van where customers food is stored and it was walking all over another customers food.

We told the delivery driver and pointed out the cat, at first he didn't seem that bothered even joked that it happens often. Eventually he slowly walked back to van and instead of trying to get cat out quickly, he tried to stroke it, cat eventually jumped out and ran away.

I'm pretty sure it didn't get near my food but feel sorry for the other customers who have no idea a cat has walked all over there food.

Should I contact Tesco's and say something or just leave it.

What would you do.

I wouldn't even have given it more than a passing thought if I'd seen it. A cats feet are probably more hygienic than some of the crates the food comes in.

cushioncovers · 14/10/2023 20:25

Op you are being rather dramatic

where do you think supermarkets and suppliers store their products. A cat is the least of our problems.

😂😂

Jellykat · 14/10/2023 20:32

Not a problem i say, the pickers have probably sneezed all over it already..

vodkaredbullgirl · 14/10/2023 20:33

Silly cat

SnowyPetals · 14/10/2023 20:34

I would ponder it for at least 3 seconds before thinking no more about it.

Gymmum82 · 14/10/2023 20:36

The food is already covered in pesticides, dirt from the ground, dirt from warehouses. Possibly rats and mice have walked and wee’d on it if they’ve got in the warehouses. A cat is the least of your worries.
By all means report it to tesco. But I’m sure they will just reiterate what everyone else is saying. Your shopping does not enter your house clean

DyslexicPoster · 14/10/2023 20:36

I don't have pets but it wouldn't bover me. however im not alergic luckily.

These days food delivered isnt put in shopping bags it's put loose in to crates. That's why I was concerned. None of my shopping was in bags .

I thought maybe I was over thinking it but what if the cat had wee all over the food.

I know the cat he is a bit of a menace.just thought it was unhygienic.

If you know this cat it means he only went into the van during your delivery so wasn’t there for long.
I don’t think he’s done much damage.

Jewelspun · 14/10/2023 20:38

Tesco have started selling cats.

You can have them as a home delivery or click and collect.

Maybe it could smell it's Dreamies.

Bellyblueboy · 14/10/2023 20:39

OP can you show the comments which have upset you? I don’t see anything that is bullying?

anyway back to your worries - the only
food I can think of that the cat might have some into direct contact with is loose fruit - you peel bananas, oranges, pineapple etc so really we are talking potentially apples and pears? Mine come in paper bags but i suppose could be loose in the crate? Maybe peppers?

I have worked in a supermarket and would ALWAYS wash loose fruit and vey. People have sneezed over it, rats and mice have crawled over it while in transit, it’s been dropped on the floor and handled by lots of people.

to be honest a cat is the least of your worries

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 14/10/2023 20:39

I’d just have smiled 😜 Cats are amusing little creatures. Like Squirrels.
Yeah the majority of food comes from fields which are fertilised by manure. Squelched over by slugs & snails 🐌 etc!

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 14/10/2023 20:40

Decent price for a Tabby

Bellyblueboy · 14/10/2023 20:41

My concern would have been the doors close and the cat gets carried off to another neighbourhood - but I am a crazy cat lady 😻

StSwithinsDay · 14/10/2023 20:41

@midnitghtgraveyard ·
Just leave it dont turn in to a karen over it.
Would not bother me one bit i wash veg and fruits as anyone else would.

Your misogynistic slur is completely unnecesary.

StarDolphins · 14/10/2023 20:42

This wouldn’t bother me even a teeny bit. There’s so much more that the (bagged/wrapped) food might’ve come into contact with.

SeatonCarew · 14/10/2023 20:42

loseweightpleasegod · 14/10/2023 19:57

Rats and mice walk all over your food in the shops and warehouses.

This, and pee allover cans of drinks etc. Be aware and wash if necessary, but no need to panic about a cat.

Ha. Same. 🤣

I mean, it's a cat. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My teen son works part time in a supermarket, you really don't want to know what touches your food in warehouses. The world isn't sterile.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 14/10/2023 20:45

You big bunch of meanies.

I’d report it to 101 op

😺😸😹

littlbrowndog · 14/10/2023 20:46

Bodega cats. They are the best. They live in shops and sleep on the groceries and cash machines. Cats with jobs. I think that cat was inspecting the food order to check everything was as it should be

MapleSyrupWaffles · 14/10/2023 20:48

I never made this post just to be insulted. I thought mumsnet was better than than this.

Where on earth did you get that idea?!

LucyAnnTrent · 14/10/2023 20:49

In the nicest possible way, OP, you need to get a grip. Even if another customer happens to be allergic to cats, the amount of cat dander that might have been shed onto their food would be miniscule. It's not as if the cat went to sleep on their apples.

I have worked picking fresh produce. Let's just say it was a long way from the nearest portaloo and as we were paid by what we picked...well, you'll understand that the cat is the least of your worries when it comes to food hygiene.
