Why won’t Egypt help the Gazans?

It seems the most if not the only logical solution, to set up refugee shelters in the Sinai peninsula?

Hamas have now instructed Gazans to ignore evacuation warnings from the IDF. What despicable bastards they are. They want them to stay and be bombed or get in the way during a ground invasion. They have a duty of care towards Gazans given they are the governing authority and look what they do, hide behind them.

So I guess any idea of an airlift or crossing into Egypt would be rejected by Hamas anyway unless some of their higher ups thought it would be a good exit plan for themselves.

bombastix · 13/10/2023 18:25

Maybe the Iranians can help out with this given their significant interest? It's now clear that Israel intend to raise Gaza bit by bit, destroy the infrastructure of Hamas and its fighters and then negotiate to make whatever is left rather much smaller and considerably less pleasant than it is now.

BelleHathor · 13/10/2023 18:29

Palestinians have no right of return. So if they leave they will never be allowed to return and will forever be displaced like 1000s of other Palestinians.

canwetalkaboutcake · 13/10/2023 18:30

The Gazans voted in Hamas as their Gov.

A massive amount of Gazans were not even born when Hamas was voted in.

When do you think the last democratic elections were in Palestine?

Blinky21 · 13/10/2023 18:46

The sad and ugly truth is that many Palestinians do support Hamas.

Even if they do, it's hardly surprising given the circumstances they have been forced to live in, that radicalism has been created. But I can say for sure the children and babies being killed don't support anyone

RoyKentFanclub · 13/10/2023 18:51

It is also not a normal border as you’re probably imagining it. There’s a massive great barbed wire topped wall there, two walls in some parts, plus a no man’s land strip which has been widened significantly by the Israelis in recent years and is heavily policed by the Israeli army. There is a very small gate crossing which is for people only (not goods) but you have to have an entry/exit pass. There was a very large network of tunnels in and out but it was flooded and destroyed since it was being used for smuggling and terrorist activity.

Spambod · 13/10/2023 18:52

TomeTome · 13/10/2023 17:38

There you go then. Why would the Egyptians feel differently? Why would the Palestinians want to be driven out of their homes to be greeted with such attitudes? These are not terrorists these are hundreds and thousands of civilians.

Did the Israelis not destroy the exits anyway?

A poll in 2021 apparently showed 53% of garzans supported hamas. Thats a huge amount. Egypt had a terror incident a few days ago. Two Israelis and their tour guide were killed by a Palestinian terrorist. I completely understand why Egypt don’t want them it will compromise their national security.

Spambod · 13/10/2023 18:57

Hamas do not want anyone to leave. Who will they hide behind. The civilians of Gaza make a lot of money in aid donations for hamas, money meant for infrastructure and hospitals. Hamas uses to fund terror and to siphon off for themselves and their luxury lifestyles. Hamas has nothing to gain from peace. They treat the people of Gaza appallingly.

Do you understand why it wouldn’t be a great place to take your parents, and children to live in tents and survive on charity?

SharonEllis · 13/10/2023 19:09

Because Hamas are extreme Islamists. Why on earth would Egypt welcome people who will destabilise their country?

sleepyscientist · 13/10/2023 19:10

Because over half of the population support a known terrorist organisation purely because they don't want to be a minority. Why don't they head to the West Bank and claim that as the second state. Also living in a war zone why on earth are they having kids!

Completely agree with this. The response is not proportionate. Israel have no moral high ground retaliating at this scale. It’s appalling.

Israel are bombing the border with Egypt.

If the Palestinian people leave, that gives Isreal what it wants - ultimately they want that land and they want rid of the Palestinians by any means.

Looks how these people have been treated by Israel for years and years. Apartheid, bombs, locked in - look up the West Bank and how they have different roads for Israeli people and Palestinians. Years or persecution has created this situation. It’s awful. Isreal has the right to defend its citizens but not to treat others like it has now, in 2008, in 2014 and many other times. This response is so disproportionate.

Whstaretheruies · 13/10/2023 19:43

Democratic governments, of and for the people have a duty of care to the people that voted for them.
Unfortunately forced government do not and Islamic forced governments do not because their first duty is to god.

KnittedCardi · 13/10/2023 19:54

You know that there are refugee camps already in Gaza. 80% of the population rely on aid. The UN runs hospitals within its own compounds within Gaza There are already many of the world's humanitarian agency's there. 1 million people are in the move, the population of Birmingham, given 24 hours to move, including an entire refugee camp. The whole thing is horrendous.

Women have no rights in Gaza. It’s part of their duty to have as many children as possible. Apparently when a fighter dies the wife can go to his brother. We can only imagine what life is like for these women.

The kids thing is interesting - they have a very high birthrate and a massive proportion of young people compared to the rest of the world.

I was wondering whether Hamas has banned contraception (so millions of future shields could be provided).

Chowtime · 13/10/2023 21:01

Crosspost with @Spambod . Poor women. Sounds like death isn't the worse thing that could happen to them.

Condo · 13/10/2023 21:03

It is well documented that Egypt won’t help because they don’t want Hamas terrorists in their region ruining their lucrative tourist trade nor do they want the refugee camps that would inevitably throw up. It is an inconvenient truth that the Arab world could do so much to fix this crisis but they won’t - it is far easier to make Israel and the West the enemy.

RudsyFarmer · 13/10/2023 21:08

We have plenty of room in the UK so we could airlift them out I’m sure.

Why would you assume that? There’s plenty of room here.

@Shopgirl1 that is nonsense, the border was bombed but it isn’t closed - the fact remains it could be opened if Egypt wanted it to be
