That is the important question imo, who is this previous developer?

It's not clear that it had a previous developer. The site was run as a technical training centre owned by the UAE (something to do with their their military apparently, but that's not clear). It's not been used for a few years but still had security on it, apparently still employed by the UAE. It seems to have been the security guards who've told the locals (in May 22) that it was being sold for an asylums centre. The August 22 sale date could have been the finalisation of that purchase.

The site's allocated for a 140 houses with 30% affordable on the Local Plan for the area.

Notonthestairs · 25/10/2023 09:51

So Brockwell knew they had a buyer? And one that would pay a premium?

Wonder if the UK Govt didn't want to be seen to be buying back land from UAE government?

MPs are expected to vote on whether to approve a six-week suspension for Peter Bone later today, after he was found to have committed acts of bullying and sexual misconduct against a member of staff.

OP posts:
BIossomtoes · 25/10/2023 11:55

I don’t understand why it needs a vote. He’s fucked up and needs to be suspended, it couldn’t be simpler.

Notonthestairs · 25/10/2023 11:59

Happy for them to vote on it. Let us see who thinks Bone's behaviour is acceptable.

Still mulling over why the Government would spent £15 million on a site priced at £6 million last year.

DuncinToffee · 25/10/2023 12:23

Starmer at PMQs

They've heard your candidate for Tamworth tell the public to f off. Will he call a general election so the public can return the compliment?

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 25/10/2023 12:39

Did Sunak really respond an election would be "the easy way out"?

I can't listen to PMQs at the moment.

DuncinToffee · 25/10/2023 12:42

Yes, he did.

Easy way out to California?

Yes, he did.

Easy way out to California?

Careful, that was interpreted as racism when I said it.

I missed this yesterday but Harriet Harman was elected as new chair of the House of Commons standards committee.

Fascinating that that must presumably mean that a number of Tories supported the appointment, despite her being beastly to Boris. He really isn't as popular as he and his sycophants would like to think he is.

newnamethanks · 25/10/2023 16:28

When will they vote on Bone? Does anyone know?

DuncinToffee · 25/10/2023 16:38

Apparently there is some kind of hold up

Tory MP Liam Fox raises this BBC report on Peter Bone's victim

He calls it a "one-sided attack" and asks if it's an "undue attempt to influence" MPs voting on Bone's suspension

Deputy Speaker Roger Gale says the Speaker Lindsay Hoyle is seeking legal advice on the matter

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 25/10/2023 16:44

Didn't think Tory MPs would watch the BBC.

Notonthestairs · 25/10/2023 16:45

The Times reported that story very similarly - interesting they aren't mentioned.

newnamethanks · 25/10/2023 16:46

O quelle surprise, wicked BBC trying to influence the outcome. I would say 'have these Tories no shame?' But we know they haven't. How low can they go? Also a redundant question. Thanks, Duncin.

DuncinToffee · 25/10/2023 17:36

Davie is addressing the 1922 committee today isn't he?

Exclusive: The Manston migrant processing centre could be converted into a "residential" detention centre holding thousands of asylum seekers before deportation to Rwanda

Demolition work is underway at the site, while buildings are being refurbished

Extra capacity is needed if the government is to fulfil its pledge to detain and remove small boat migrants

It said it would reopen two previously closed detention centres - Campsfield and Haslar - but work is taking longer than expected and they won't open until late next year

Conservative MP Sir Roger Gale, whose constituency includes Manston, said Suella Braverman and other ministers had given him “an absolute assurance that this would not be anything other than a transit facility”

He said any change in use would be "a complete breach of faith"

Haslar has been re opening for quite a while!!! It's near me. I think they may actually get round to opening it.

Hopefully it'll be suitable accommodation to place people whilst they wait for accommodation or processing.

The Commons has agreed that Peter Bone be suspended from the House for six weeks from today to Tuesday 5 December, without a division.

This suspension will trigger a recall petition in his Wellingborough constituency.

BIossomtoes · 25/10/2023 18:49

Couldn’t happen to a better person.

Notonthestairs · 25/10/2023 18:54

Davie is addressing the 1922 committee today isn't he?

It's not on public record so we will never know for certain what was discussed but I noticed this from The Sun's Harry Cole -

Loud cheers of more and table banging as Natalie Elphike slams BBC coverage of small boats.

Davie says Sir Robbie Gibb - ex no10 comms now BBC board - is involved in reviewing how they report on migration

Davie promises the MPs that the BBC migration review will be “published in full”.

Delighted with the outcome of the vote on Peter Bone🎉

BIossomtoes · 25/10/2023 19:32

Have we had a thread called Sunak and His Ever Shrinking Majority yet? If not, maybe we should consider it for the next one?

itsgettingweird · 25/10/2023 21:01

Good title!!!

What's a recall vote? I thought if you were susie send over 10 days it's triggered a by election or am I just making that up? (I'm tired 🤣)
