Do you know anyone who has never had Covid?

Most adults I know have had it multiple times, especially people with kids at school. Most kids have had it multiple times. But a lady at work says she and her husband have had it, and they are going to participate in a medical study. And now I just wondered if not having Covid is unusual or whether lots of people have managed to avoid it all this time.

Me neither, despite DP having it twice and being around others before they tested positive.

Zzizzisnotzeproblem · 04/10/2023 23:20

Most of my family have never had it. 10/18 haven’t ever tested positive.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 04/10/2023 23:20

Never had it. Dh had it, was almost certain I’d get it too, but just didn’t happen.

I have had it but only once, 3 years ago, very mildly -I tested positive but my body just shook it straight off. But never since, despite sharing a bed with someone who had it. I am generally very susceptible to colds and flu, but but not Covid for some reason.

There was talk early on in Covid that people who were allergic to cats were missing something in their lungs that Covid uses to enter the body. I never heard any more about that theory but I do wonder as I am the most cat-allergic person you can imagine.

I wonder what the study will be looking at?

BeBraveAndBeKind · 04/10/2023 23:21

I've never had it and neither have either of the DC but DH has had it four times.

DiaNaranja · 04/10/2023 23:21

Me, my husband, and our two kids have never knowingly had it. Neither of the kids has been ill since before the pandemic, so not even any occasion I could think "maybe that was it" and when it was rife in the school, they were making us test before sending them everyday, and not once did they have a positive. On the odd occasion me or DH have been poorly we still test for it (out of curiosity!) and again, have never had a positive. I've been in lots of situations where I probably should have caught it and haven't. For example, the weeks running up to our 2021 holiday, almost everyone in my workplace came down with it. I was working in a very small office space with my manager for 8 hours a day, five days straight one week, she did have a cough, and a few days later tested positive. I thought I definitely would have caught it, so tested daily after that, panicking we'd have to cancel our holiday, but never felt ill, and never got a positive test.

Lavenderblume · 04/10/2023 23:22

Most people I know who say they haven't had it, have had coughs and colds in the last 3 years, at least one of which was probably Covid without them realising! Either they don't bother testing, or they test in the first few days of symptoms and it comes up negative so they assume it can't be Covid.

On the two occasions I've had Covid, it's taken several days of symptoms before the lateral flow tests show up positive, before that they are negative, and this has been true for my parents and husband too. Meanwhile many people test just once as soon as they fall ill, and go round telling everyone "it's not Covid", even though two or three days later they might have tested positive. They'll never know.

StrongandNorthern · 04/10/2023 23:22

I've not had it.
Husband not had it.
(Adult) kids worked on NHS frontline in local major hospital from Day 1 while we did their childcare.
Luck of the draw I suppose.

Lizzypet · 04/10/2023 23:22

Nobody in my family has knowing had it. DH & I both work in healthcare & did LFTs twice weekly from when they were first available. Children attended key worker places at primary & pre school. Parents in 70s haven't had it either 🤷

GalaxyAddict · 04/10/2023 23:23

Me!! And I am immunocompromised, got get all the boosters. My daughter has had it 3 times & she is 12 & slept in bed with me all 3 time due to her being poorly

I was the same. Had also just finished treatment for cancer so my immune system was low. Shook it off very quickly with little bother. I was surprised given how it had floored everyone around me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pumpernickles · 04/10/2023 23:23

Me and my Mum have never had it. I worked in an office, used public transport and am medically unable to wear a mask.

PlantDoctor · 04/10/2023 23:24

Elderly MIL and my grandparent haven't had it, thankfully

YourWinter · 04/10/2023 23:24

I haven’t had it, despite working in a supermarket until last year. My neighbour (78) hasn’t, though his wife has had it twice. My siblings (70s) haven’t had it. All my AC and their partners have had it at least once.

Moveoverdarlin · 04/10/2023 23:24

Don’t think I have, I had kids in nursery and school and never had it, if I have, I certainly didn’t know. If the kids had it, I also didn’t know. Never tested positive. My husband had it and of course was on deaths door but he’s a massive hypochondriac.

Teddleshon · 04/10/2023 23:25

How do you know if you’ve never had it? It is possible to be asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms.

ExNorfolk · 04/10/2023 23:26

Wow, interesting! More people than I thought have never had it.
I don’t know what exactly the study she and her husband are doing is for, only that they were tested beforehand for antibodies to see if they had already had Covid without realising and they were both clear of the antibodies so they really had not ever had Covid.

I haven’t knowingly had it, same with my DH and two kids.

Cryingbutstilltrying · 04/10/2023 23:28

Me, my dh, my dc, none of us have had it.
I work in a public facing healthcare role and did throughout all the lockdowns.
Both dc in school when they were able to be.
At one point my dd and one other child were the only kids on the school bus.
DS class at primary had multiple outbreaks, we tested him, never positive.
I had a blood test as part of a study sometime in 2021, I had no natural antibodies but some from the vaccines I had.
DH works mainly from home so not overly surprised at him.
My brother and nephew have never had it either, despite my sil getting it more than once and living in close quarters.
I think I read somewhere that something like 10% of the population have a genetic immunity? Not sure, but I’m happy if that’s my little tribe.

jennylamb1 · 04/10/2023 23:28

I took part in a clinical trial as part of the Covidence UK study and hadn't had any symptoms however tested positive for antibodies for covid in June 2021. Didn't have any symptoms and didn't test positive for covid until June 2022 and then March 2023. I presume that I just had a light viral load which gave me antibodies but didn't become a fully-blown infection. A colleague in the same school tested positive and passed it onto others however had absolutely no symptoms. I put it down to genetics.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 04/10/2023 23:28

AFAIK DS2 hasn't had it, he isn't immunised either.
IIRC neither my Grandad or Step-Nanny have had it either.

As for the cat allergy thing. I'm allergic to cats and have had covid.

SaltedCaramelIcedLatte · 04/10/2023 23:29

I haven't had it!

PurpleMonkeys · 04/10/2023 23:29

I had it. Thought I was going to die.

sjj28358 · 04/10/2023 23:31

My niece is 22, has been to countless festivals and events, has never been very vigilant about distancing etc, and works as a TA in Reception so has very close contact with small children every day. She has never had a positive test.
