Hi!
So I'm looking to just chat and hang out (virtually) with some other mums who are also gamers.
None of my mum friends play and none of my gamer friends are mums.... see where I'm going here?

There MUST be others like me out there! --I'm late 30s
-Ps4 (was going to upgrade but baby #2 came along 👀)
-Open world
-SP

  • fav games are Skyrim, Witcher 3, LoU, Days Gone and Fallout

Please feel to hit me up with your favs and how/when you find time to play!

Love love love Witcher 3, but I found Skyrim really difficult to get on with!!! I think it’s because the controls were so different from the game I was previously playing (Zelda) so I got fed up and gave in. Might revisit it now actually and see if I can get on board with it. I also found the map so confusing!!

IVFfirsttimer91 · 30/09/2023 21:22

Forgot to add, I’m pregnant with DC 1 at the moment - so have time in the evenings/ weekends to play. Not sure when I’ll have time when baby is here!

PepeParapluie · 30/09/2023 21:26

Hey! I have this same issue!

I loved Days Gone, played it a while after it had gone out so it wasn’t glitchy anymore and I thought it was awesome. Still think about it sometimes.

Currently replaying Horizon forbidden west on ultra hard / NG+ which is fun.

I’d really recommend horizon if you haven’t played it. Also Disco Elysium is different from anything else but so so good. And I loved Death Stranding too.

As for finding time… nap times or after baby has gone to bed, but she’s still little. Mine and my husbands days of each playing our separate consoles all day at the weekend are long gone!

I thought this as wanted to play Hogwarts Legacy. It came out right when my first was born. I played while she napped either on me or in her Moses basket next to me. Newborns sleep loads. It’s much harder now she’s 9 months!

CharlieBalf · 30/09/2023 21:44

Congratulations on baby! From your name I'm guessing the IVF was successful?

My DS was also IVF 😊

Skyrimnis showing its age a little now, graphics have upped their game but it's still an absolute stalwart of you can get through the first chapter and get a handle on the controls!

I found you get time to play while baba is under 6 months as they don't move that much and nap a lot! In fact I played Last of Us part 2 pretty much all of my mat leave 😆😆 Well spent imo.

Im a mom of 3 (8,10,12) no one in my friend group knows I game, its quite funny really, its my dirty little secret😂😂, i have a professional job which is worlds away from me admitting I game, its not that im ashamed, far from it, but i love the thought of people thinking im this serious mature mother of 3, who in her spare time wears a full on headset and pre-ordered the PS5 when first released. I play with my other half regularly and with my kids. I really love Fortnite (typical) pre ordered hogwarts legacy which i loved. Witcher, Skyrim, God of war. Back in the day i loved metal gear solid. Ill give most games a go but i prefer story games, with the exception of fortnite🤭

Salvor · 30/09/2023 21:50

I love skyrim. Have you played elden ring?

I've been loving diablo 4 for a few months now. Starfield wasn't all that great for me, wasn't worth the hype.

The lies of P is great if you play that!

I'm on xbox 🙂

Kaill · 30/09/2023 21:51

how/when you find time to play
You don’t, lol. You have to constantly supervise your baby so they don’t kill themselves or scream the house down. If you get five minutes to yourself you sleep!

Then they become old enough to potter around the house safely, but unfortunately that also means they’re old enough to take your game off you. By age 3 mine had removed the controller from my hands and wanted to ride around on my horse all the time. I got killed a LOT because he would just ride blithely into danger.

NepheliLoux · 30/09/2023 21:52

I have three DS but mine are a little older now. My youngest DS tells me I’m the best mum as none of his friends mums get platinum trophies on the PS5 🤣

I love Horizon Forbidden West. My eldest DS got me into Eldon Ring which I didn’t think I’d enjoy but actually ended up completing like three times. Still got no idea what it’s about mind!

CharlieBalf · 30/09/2023 21:54

It's a real issue 😆😆 I'm not the worlds best player but I'm keen and I love it and don't want to give up now.

Days Gone was so awesome... the soundtrack really got me! Great mechanics and a memorable storyline. Pretty much had it all. I'm so sad there isn't a part 2!

Yes! i have played HZD and the sequel! Many, many hours spent on those games.

Probably put thr most time into Witcher, I was solidly into replays on Game + deathmatch for a long time and honestly, listen to the ST in my car 😄😄

Oh so interesting! I've been thinking about getting an x box JUSt to play Starfild but holding back because... Bethesda. I kinda loved Fallout 3 but the rest hasn't really held up

IVFfirsttimer91 · 30/09/2023 21:58

@CharlieBalf thank you! Yes round 2 was successful and touch wood will continue to be! Not sure we will be doing another round after this one though, IVF is no joke 😂.

CharlieBalf · 30/09/2023 22:00

I had to stop playing when DS turned 2 because he started to notice the whole beheading and gory deaths things. So now its either nursey time or after bed.... by which time I'm fried. So, yeah, never for me too ✋️

I have a DS 3 and DD 8 months. I'm literally never going to have time to play again 🙃

OP posts:
icebearforpresident · 30/09/2023 22:01

Can I join the in? I wouldn’t call myself a gamer but I do have a tendency to sit on the PS4 once the kids and my husband, who goes to bed at least 2 hours before me, are asleep. I love Fortnight and I’m really good at it, much to my kids disgust!

I find a lot of games give me motion sickness, anything with a first person POV is out, but I have the top tier PS+ so open to recommendations!

Phoenix9 · 30/09/2023 22:02

I've got a PS5 and I'm about 60 hours into Baldurs Gate 3. It's honestly so addicting, do need to go back to hogwarts legacy at some point.

Also play with my son, so Fortnite and Minecraft occasionally but I'm terrible at them. We've recently been doing some escape room type games together online too.

I'm a career professional so nobody outside family really knows how much time I spend gaming online Blush

CharlieBalf · 30/09/2023 22:05

We didn't get funded Donhead to pay everything, tests, drugs, everything.

Dd came a long naturally 18 months later. After 8 years of trying and nothing we were SO shocked.

I’m a mid 40s mum gamer. Loved fallout. All time favourite was Fable and looking forward to reboot

IVFfirsttimer91 · 30/09/2023 22:14

@CharlieBalf we didn’t get funded either. It’s so expensive. Congratulations on DD though! Bet you were thrilled!!! I’m really wanting to try the new hogwarts game too! Though I have a switch so I’m not sure when it comes out/if it has already!

bluesatin · 30/09/2023 22:14

I have been a gamer since forever. Now in my 70s - I've played and loved The Elder Scrolls games - Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim... Love RPGs, though I've also done lots of puzzle games such as the Myst and Room series, The Witness...

Back in the Megadrive days my favourite was Light Crusader, also a puzzle game. I am pretty useless at platformers and FPSs.

For the last few years I have mainly played online co-op RPGs with my son (he's in his 30s and lives 200 miles away.) We don't include my daughter - she has 2 little kids - because it's hard to find suitable times when all 3 of us can play at once - and she nicks all the best treasure! She plays a lot of Minecraft. DH has no interest in computer games, though he'll play board games.

So recently DS and I have played Solasta, Gloomhaven... but right now we are playing Skyrim Together Reborn which is a mod enabling you to play Skyrim as co- op game. It's buggy, but a lot of fun and his company enables me to explore tombs full of draugrs without a heart attack every 30 seconds.

I have time to play because I am a retired old fogey. I had time to play before because pre- consoles I introduced my kids to the joys of pinball as toddlers, D and D as soon as they could read and bought my daughter a Megadrive as soon as they appeared in the U K in 1990.

Malarandras · 30/09/2023 22:15

Starfield is amazing. Better than the hype. Anything by Bethesda is awesome actually Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is brilliant too. Both Horizon games are great, love Alloy. Tomb Raider, old and new games are great too. I’m a professional too and I post on the work Yammer group for gaming. I really don’t care who knows I game. There’s no shame in it, I’m not selling drugs or anything like that!

OfDragonsDeep · 30/09/2023 22:20

Meeee, I love Final Fantasy 14 which has the best story. Been playing it for just under 10 years! Started with no kids and now have a 7 and 4 year old. I play when they’re in bed.

Also enjoyed things like Skyrim, The Sims, Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, Tony Hawks. Looking forward to the Tombraider 1-3 remaster next year.

+Pokemon Go for when I’m outside 😂

Faz469 · 30/09/2023 22:20

Mum with an 11 week old. I play while he naps on me. Currently obsessed with hogwarts legacy and crash bandicoot. I'm 37 btw

CattingAbout · 30/09/2023 22:25

Ooh yes I'm in! Also late 30s. PC gamer, love Elder Scrolls, Fallout and Deus Ex franchises. Not played Witcher 3, tried Witcher 2 and didn't like it tbh.

Currently on Stardew Valley and also replaying old Command and Conquer 3. Don't get much time though as DC (3 and 5) aren't great at going to bed!

Eldest DC is just getting into Minecraft, obviously I'm having to play it again by myself so I can help him when he gets stuck 😃.

Will need a bit of a PC upgrade to play Starfield, but obviously no hurry as I'm sure Bethesda have plenty of bugs to fix...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/09/2023 22:26

I want to play starfield, but my laptop would burst into flames. I wish I could find the time to play like I used to. Love skyrim and ratchet and clank.

I used to sit on a bean bag when dd was tiny, with her nestled in my knees while I played. I'm not sure if that makes me a terrible mother. She grew up to be a gamer.

Headphonehair · 30/09/2023 22:30

Hi v. Late 30s mum to one ds 13. Been gaming since atari. Love fortnite amongst others. Struggling to find time to get on as he’s always on it so I’m going to buy myself a ps4 😆
