My goodness this house has potential….

Another bit of property porn. It could be magnificent if done properly, but suspect it will just end up looking generically blingy, with loads of very expensive flash furniture. I’ve looked at so many gorgeous properties in posh bits of London and none of them ever seem authentic. Just bland and shiny with no colour or texture but this is so different. Reminds me of that museum in London Dennis Severs house I think.

He's even turned a Queen Anne style chair into a rocking chair with the books underneath it!
Love that house, it tells a story.

Nearly 4 million £££ for a terraced house smack bang in the middle of one of the most crime ridden, violent, polluted, over-populated places in Europe?! 😂 No thanks.

... a genuine unadulterated period house in one of the most expensive and sought-after cities in the world though.

Janieforever · 29/09/2023 11:25

That’s true,

The property is within easy walking distance to Gray’s Inn so possibly an owner was a barrister or judge

Mistandmellowfruitfullness · 29/09/2023 12:39

Can they chuck in the 4 poster bed and piano for that price?

IClaudine · 29/09/2023 12:41

It is beautiful as it is. 😍

SuperGinger · 29/09/2023 12:42

@PleaseGiveMeBackMySummer it's quite reasonable in my opinion. I love it. I bet an aging barrister lives there.

The only thing I would like in there is a deVol kitchen, the current one is not great.

longwayoff · 29/09/2023 12:42

! Something's gone wrong with the world. That should be MINE. Sadly it's not and never will be. Complete with furniture please. Sigh.

How is it heated -big windows and old wood floors suggest Brrrrrrrrr! To me

It might be s bit chilly. There are several heaters in one bedroom.

I think it’s owned by two men/male couple/ Definitely no woman living there as lacks femininity I think. But whomever the owners are, they habe done a wonderful job of it. Hats off to them, one of the most tastefully and sympathetically decorated properties I’ve seen. They have an eye for antiques as well and modernised where it counts ie kitchen.

I thought single bachelor when I looked at it, but could certainly be a gay couple.

I am also intrigued by the monkey in the portrait and the taxidermy, which I thought was a bear but maybe it is the monkey after all…

I’d barely change it if I bought it. Garden and kitchen probably

This. The rest of the house is beautiful. I would love to live there. The colours of the decor and furniture are perfect.

The kitchen looks tacky and not really in keeping with the other rooms and the "garden" is just a concrete yard. Could be really lovely if it was nicely planted.

SuperGinger · 29/09/2023 12:46

I think a woman might live there, it looks like a family home, however I don't think she is terribly bothered with tidying.

MossyMo · 29/09/2023 12:48

Love it! Wonderful to see an old house still with an interior that matches it's external age, can imagine it being used for TV period dramas.
Even the clutter manages to look homely here, though I'm dying to expose the beautiful grand piano/harpsichord? to be the focal point it deserves.
I'm glad the kitchen is in a traditional style even if rather plain, as often a shiny modern contrast. Only need to add some colour and richness to the white rooms and make the outside space really special with plants and lighting.

The house looks like it would have a fascinating history to uncover and curious about the taxidermy and painting of the pet primate.

IHeartGeneHunt · 29/09/2023 12:49

It's my dream house, I wouldn't change anything. I want the furniture too!

PuppyMcPupFace · 29/09/2023 12:53

Check out Nigel Slater's house on Instagram, he lives locally and his house is gorgeous.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 29/09/2023 12:55

If there was ever a house that could pull off piles of books, papers everywhere and an overflowing champagne supply - it’s this one

Adds 'an overflowing champagne supply' to the 'how to spend retirement' list. I already have the books and would have the papers everywhere if I didn't keep on top of them.

DanceToTheMusicInMyHead · 29/09/2023 12:58

In the kitchen on top of the cooker there are signs that I think come from the old BBC television centre (judging by the signs Sue Perkins brought into Taskmaster 😂). So maybe some BBC connection?

Tighginn · 29/09/2023 13:03

I love that that house, looks homely.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/09/2023 13:07

I'd repaint the string colours. But I would love to live there!

His website says that he is a funeral trainer and leading historian on Londons funeral history which is fascinating!

UsernameChangedYetAgain · 29/09/2023 13:32

I hope when I come to sell my house one day no one does a deep dive about me on a global internet platform like you've just done! 😳

Giggorata · 29/09/2023 13:35

Lovely period house, agree that it has more or less reached its potential and so hope that someone doesn't come along to fuck it up
Nice to see that someone isn't afraid of colour, even if not all of it would be my choice.

LoobyDop · 29/09/2023 13:38

Lovely house, beautifully done. If it was mine I’d spend quite a lot of time on the roof terrace playing Mary Poppins.

septemberoctobernovember · 29/09/2023 13:39

The main reception rooms work well as does the hallway. The bedrooms are awful thojgh as is the kitchen and the bathroom needs renovation
