Have you had your heating on yet?

My thermostat says my house is 18.5 degrees this morning and it feels really cold already! I've actually never had a thermostat before until now, in my old house I just used to put the heating on as and when but I'm thinking I should set it at a temperature so that it kicks in.

Anybody else had their heating on yet, and what temperature is your thermostat set at?

West Midlands here. No heating until 1 October and possibly not even then if we can manage without.

Comedycook · 23/09/2023 19:57

Haven't even contemplated putting the heating on yet. Live in London. We've had some wind and rain but it hasn't felt cold yet. I wore a summer dress and sandals today. Our house is fairly modern and we don't usually need heating on until November.

Growlybear83 · 23/09/2023 19:58

I've just put my heating on. I'm already wrapped up in a blanket and I'm freezing. I think we usually start to put it on at about this time of year.

No it’s really mild still

EasternStandard · 23/09/2023 19:59

House is 20.6

wineandmaltesershappyme · 23/09/2023 20:01

Yep a couple of times. House first thing was 17 degrees, turned it on for half an hour

Tremour · 23/09/2023 20:03

Nope, nothing a jumper or some layers or blanket can't fix. Still got my windows open.

newyearsresolurion · 23/09/2023 20:13

Yes

Thisisveryhard · 23/09/2023 20:17

No. In the Midlands. Will try to get as far into Oct as possible!

My sibling never puts the heating on. His GCH broke and he never bothered fixing it as he only used it when I visited. I now only visit in summer!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 23/09/2023 20:22

Very damp and chilly here in NE England. Small bungalow with stone floors. It went down to 5 degrees on Thursday night and it's not good for the house to get so cold and damp. So for all I usually don't put the heating on till October, it's been on for an hour the last 3 nights. Also, DD has health issues and gets very cold. Hot water bottles have also been deployed for her (and the cat!)

eastiseastwestiswest · 23/09/2023 20:26

No. We are in Yorkshire and it hasn't even occurred to me to put it on yet.

CirreltheSquirrel · 23/09/2023 20:29

The thermostat has kicked in 3 or 4 times for 15 minutes or so at a time over the last week. Depending on the time of day it's set at 17ish (lower overnight and when we're out at work) and in winter I sometimes bump it up above that in the evening, but at this time of year that's enough to take the edge off it.

Teapleasebobb · 23/09/2023 20:30

Not yet. We've had the fire on for the last 2 nights though for the first time. Trying to hold on for as long as possible before we put the heating on. Our thermostat is set to 13 degrees so it'll probably be a while before it kicks in 🥶

yeveamgirl · 23/09/2023 20:30

It's 22 degrees in our house, a new build. No heating on. So no, not yet.

DinnaeFashYersel · 23/09/2023 20:32

Ours has been on for a few weeks now but we live in Scotland.

lemonyellows · 23/09/2023 20:32

No. I don't think it's that cold yet. No where near
.

RosesAndHellebores · 23/09/2023 20:33

Yes it was 7° outside this morning and I put it on for an hour. I detest being cold when I get up in the morning. I also switched to the 8.5 tog duvet today.

Yes, we are in Yorkshire and our heating has kicked in a few times now.

BumbleBee75 · 23/09/2023 20:43

Mines set to 18.
It came on a couple of mornings last week when the house dipped to 16 overnight.
I'll up it to 19 towards November.

Twospaniels · 23/09/2023 20:44

We never turn our heating off - just set the thermostat to 18 and it comes on if it needs to and doesn’t when it doesn’t. We just leave it like that the whole time.

AdoraBell · 23/09/2023 20:45

No. Upstairs is 19 degrees and downstairs 18 degrees. Both DH and the dog prefer it only 18 degrees so I’m accustomed to wrapping up.

FawltyTower · 23/09/2023 21:51

Not yet...but tonight is the first time I've felt chilly sitting down in the evening so it won't be long.

I'll try and make it to October though just for budget reasons. I'm not ready to let go of the £16 a month gas bills 😂

Vettrianofan · 23/09/2023 21:56

Yep. It's been on for about a fortnight now 🥶

Sdpbody · 23/09/2023 22:07

We've had it on a few times this week. My house says 20, but I was chilly with a jumper on. Put it to 22 and it was lovely.

Vettrianofan · 23/09/2023 22:17

I have it set to around 23C. Lovely and toasty 😍
