Continuation of previous threads (thread 9).

Although the nights are gradually drawing in, the new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey inside. The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

I'm sorry about your woes with your son, Brit. I can't add anything, but wish you the best.

Thanks for the wildlife photos, Binturong!

I know IABVVVU as an evil non-mum on mumsnet complaining about this, but AIBU to think a car park outside a block of flats is not a playground? Kids have been outside screaming at the top of their voices and riding their bikes around it for the past hour and I can’t hear myself think. Parents are there and encouraging it. There’s a park literally next door. They’re also playing on the bendy ramp that leads to the underground car park which isn’t safe as people just assume it’s clear when they come out. I don’t even think they live here Confused

Sorry, @CyanCrystalViolet but (as a fellow non-parent) I am going to say YADBVVVU simply because I'm trying to fit in here and I think it's compulsory for someone to disagree with any sane position.

CyanCrystalViolet · 07/10/2023 22:14

Update: they’ve gone now

CyanCrystalViolet · 07/10/2023 22:17

I’ve nearly finished The Long Shadow. Did the police really keep referring to a ‘Geordie accent’? Had they not heard of Mackem? Even the North East cop isn’t setting them straight.

MouseMinge · 07/10/2023 23:12

They did, @CyanCrystalViolet . I didn't realise that they had all the episodes up. I might have a tiny bit of a binge. I was saving it for something decent to watch on a Monday night but the new Jimmy Saville thing on BBC1 on Monday will do that for me now.

I only got into Ghosts last season so I'm currently watching the first three before moving on the the new and final one. It's so good!

Britinme · 07/10/2023 23:17

My DH has declared a wish to watch Cheers from the beginning as he enjoyed it when it was on and its now streaming on Hulu. There are 275 episodes. I have drawn the line at one episode per evening.

MouseMinge · 07/10/2023 23:19

In other news, I had a new (secondhand) sideboard delivered from a charity shop today. It's not pretty but I bought it as a new TV stand and storage for CDs and DVDs. Before it was on another secondhand piece of furniture that I got several years ago. I think it was originally from a school or an office. It's the same length as the sideboard, a bit higher, light wood and lots of shelves that can pull out and blah. It's now moved to the other end of my long living room to be used as my sewing table for pattern cutting and stuff like that. I'm very excited about it.

CyanCrystalViolet · 07/10/2023 23:40

Well, I’ve just finished TLS and thought it was excellent, especially episode 6. So many mistakes still to be learned from.

@Britinme could you and the TV have an unfortunate accident?

@MouseMinge photos! I love a good sideboard.

Kucinghitam · 08/10/2023 07:28

We started the new season of Ghosts last night. DDs were pleading to binge the whole thing but I Stayed Strong and stopped us after 2 episodes. I've read that is going to be the final season, so we need to treasure each moment. (Did I mention we are a bit Ghosts-mad ChezKuc and went to visit West Horsley Place last year, in themed T-shirts?).

Ooh @MouseMinge, vintage furniture! Definitely need pictures...

Yesterday we were out for a walk and somebody had put out some big old picture frames - naturally, I have brought them home, I think I will do a sort of distressed gold finish and have them as empty frames on the living room wall behind the big sofa.

(I'm feeling pretty upset about current news events such as what is happening in Israel; my way of dealing with this is big-time avoidance of news and doing nice distractions instead).

Oh, also, our misdirected parcel was a countertop air-fryer (and other functions) oven. Yesterday morning we got it home and made 1. sweet potato fries 2. cheesy nachos 3. choc chip cookies 4. fish-fragrant aubergines (the frying aubergines part of the procedure).

DH did 1 and 2 as lunch accompaniments, DDs did 3 for tea and I did 4 for dinner.

I think we will calm down now.

MouseMinge · 08/10/2023 10:15

I'll take some photos but neither piece of furniture is pretty!

I was blissfully ignorant of yesterday's events for most of the day and only became aware that something was up when I was watching the gymnastics world championship and an Israeli gymnast won gold in one of the men's specialities. They kept saying how well he'd done considering what had happened that day. I didn't imagine it was as bad as it was because there's often something going on there. I don't know what to think about any of it so I'd rather pretend it's not happening for the moment because there is going to be so much death and horror to come and the inevitability of it is just horrible.

duc748 · 08/10/2023 10:46

Currently waiting for train to Liverpool for LWS. Should be an exciting and different day!

Tricyrtis2022 · 08/10/2023 11:04

Look forward to hearing about it later, duc, hope all goes smoothly.

MavisMcMinty · 08/10/2023 15:05

I absolutely love Cheers, Brit, although came to it very late, after it was finished, because macman was a massive fan and had most of them on video (“What’s video, Grandma?”), so they were great to watch with all the interspersed old adverts. Whatever happened to TV adverts? They used to be so good. Loved Frasier too.

CyanCrystalViolet · 08/10/2023 18:01

Frasier is back soon.

Britinme · 08/10/2023 19:13

Nicholas Lyndhurst is going to be in the new series of Frasier - no idea what part he plays.

I don't mind Cheers and am quite happy to watch one episode a night. I just don't want to binge-watch it!

We have been steadily working our way through the Great Pottery Throw-Down, which we've enjoyed a lot. Just finished season 4, which I think was 2021, so one season left to go unless they've already released 2023 (assuming there was one). I like Bake-Off too, which reminds me that I have an episode to catch up on as it streams on Fridays over here.

duc748 · 08/10/2023 19:35

I just had an attack of 'old age'. 😟back home and watching TV, the bloody pain in my feet, everything from the ankles down. I used to get this a lot when I lived in the SW, but lately I thought I'd seen the back of it, a lot of niggles I had the past seem to disappeared. I tried taking my shoes off, then the socks, then I had to go and lie down, and I couldn't bloody walk, and I had to haul myself upstairs hanging on to the baluster. But a ten minute lie-down, and all seems fine again. I think I put it down to quite a lot of walking I've done today. Running too, God help me.

I don't think I'd be up for any more Frasier or Cheers. They were of their time.

Gonners · 08/10/2023 20:42

@duc748 ... I think I put it down to quite a lot of walking I've done today. Running too, God help me.

That sounds alarming. Tell all!

duc748 · 08/10/2023 21:10

I walked to the bus-stop to get the bus into town to the station, but it was exactly ten o'clock and there wasn't one due until twenty-past (and it could be late, of course). The train departed at 10.25. The station is about a mile and quarter away. Reader, I ran most of the way, got there at 10.18. And, of course, the bloody train was 25 minutes late! 😀

Of course, if I'd really thought on, I could have checked the train's progress online. Then Google Maps delighted in sending me around the full tour of Liverpool's city centre. Ever had that thing where you're using GM as a pedestrian, and the arrows pointing in the right direction and everything, but you were 5 minutes from your destination, and then you look again, and you're 8 minutes away, and you think, WTAF?

weaseleyes · 08/10/2023 21:16

@duc748 If you have painful feet, it might be worth checking if your arches are ok. I had crippling pain in my feet for months when I walked very far. My flattish feet had completely sagged and I had bunions. I was sent to orthopaedics, who took an impression of my feet and gave me insoles. I was very sceptical that it would work, but it completely cured it!

MouseMinge · 08/10/2023 21:34

A photo of the new sideboard. I haven't taken one of what is now being used as my sewing station because it's not set up yet. The sideboard is not vintage, don't really know when it's from. It's not particularly good looking but I'm starting to like it. The two side cabinets have CDs and DVDs in them - there are keys to the doors! - the drawers are empty and there are a few DVDs out because the intention was to have them all out but there wasn't enough room. (The DVD player which is currently not here will go on the upper shelf. Anyway, it does the job and here it is!
