Thread 9 - TalkLair: “Russell's teapot goes on being round”

Continuation of previous threads (thread 8).

The new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey; we have truly settled here. Outside, the garden is blooming with summer flowers - should bloody well be, what with all that rain. Inside, the hearth is glowing, pictures are up on the walls, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Definitely not first but here anyway.

Tricyrtis2022 · 30/07/2023 07:30

8th, I believe. Hello new thread.

Something nice - yesterday evening I had a surprise bouquet of flowers from my favourite cousin. Roses, freesias and greenery and in suffragette colours too. They're sitting in a big jug on my desk looking lovely.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 30/07/2023 09:43

Lovely! I must say when I wear green these days, I try to wear a bit of purple and white, too.

MouseMinge · 30/07/2023 09:56

Receiving flowers is always such a delight.

I hardly ever do the suffragette colours because I'm not keen on purple mostly because it looks awful on me. I would, however, like to make a shirt blouse and a skirt from the Edwardian/1910s and replicate a suffragette sash and wear that to a rally.

Tricyrtis2022 · 30/07/2023 10:07

It really was a delight. She is such a lovely woman and we get on so well. Our parents fell out when we were children so we didn't know each other growing up and it was only in 2015 that her and her sister arranged a meet up of all the cousins. We all went to my brother's place and sat around the huge kitchen table talking non-stop and grinning like idiots. Since then me and this particular cousin have been in constant touch and find we have a great deal in common and very similar tastes. It's absolutely wonderful.

Tricyrtis2022 · 30/07/2023 10:08

As for the suffragette colours, I must arrange to wear them more often.

Tricyrtis2022 · 30/07/2023 10:09

Should have said, the only issue is the white because I have always attracted filth, like cow pats attract flies. Anything white gets dirty straight away.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 30/07/2023 10:57

I have a lovely 1900s walking suit (grey needlecord) that could be easily accessorised with a white shirt and some purple and green adornments. I have a green hat that would go Must dig it out and find a suitable occasion.

Yesterday I was picking caterpillars along the railway embankment when a charity walk went past and one of the walkers stopped. I think he must have recently got the gardening bug - asked whether I was taking cuttings, and then whipped out his phone to show me a photo of his courgette. No - an actual courgette. Followed by some new-lawn time-lapse and a long discussion of wildflower planting and - in rather a diversion from gardening - the amazing water treatment system.he'd brought back from Australia. He must have had to jog about half a mile to catch up with his group afterwards.

Tricyrtis2022 · 30/07/2023 11:37

What are you going to do with the caterpillars, Bints?

Britinme · 30/07/2023 12:06

Hooray - a sparkly new thread! I am also intrigued to know what Bint is going to do with the caterpillars.

MavisMcMinty · 30/07/2023 12:13

Yes, thirded, she can’t just throw a line in like that then talk about something else entirely.

DeanElderberry · 30/07/2023 12:25

I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering. She can't be planning to eat them, she's veggie.

MavisMcMinty · 30/07/2023 12:27

Perhaps they’re special slug-eating caterpillars or something.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 30/07/2023 12:52

Mavis is closest - they are ragwort eating caterpillars, and I want them to eat the ragwort growing in the front lawn/meadow.

Tricyrtis2022 · 30/07/2023 12:55

Ah, the cinnabar moth caterpillar, haven't seen one for a few years now. Hope it works well.

duc748 · 30/07/2023 13:48

They were so common when I was a kid, haven't seen on in years.

Tricyrtis2022 · 30/07/2023 14:23

I think it's about eight years since I saw one. I let a bit of ragwort grow here to see if any of the moths turn up but they haven't. Same with verbascum caterpillars, I provide an annual feast for them but have only seen a couple in recent years.
