Thread 10 - TalkLair: “The candle flame gutters. Its little pool of light trembles.”

Continuation of previous threads (thread 9).

Although the nights are gradually drawing in, the new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey inside. The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Yeah, maybe ... but fill the entrance hall under that landing with a trampoline and you've got a terrific kitten and puppy entertainment centre. Up the stairs ... boing! ... back up the stairs.

Tricyrtis2022 · 02/10/2023 15:15

I work for someone with a staircase like that, thankfully only leading to the attic bedroom. Found out when we had to go searching for their cat so the alarm could be set. It's horrible, I'd be terrified of getting in the night, half asleep, to use the loo and falling over the edge.

artant · 02/10/2023 17:53

That staircase and landing are terrifying. Presumably there was a rail for building regs and it’s been removed.

So, if I'm really careful I can eat frittata and tomorrow I'm going to make some scrambled eggs with posh butter and some double cream instead of full fat milk. That's a whole lof of fat but I think it might be quite lush.

I have double appointments tomorrow and have to postpone one. I'm not sure what it's for but possibly vaccine related. Thursday is PET scan. I do feel a bit like I'm spending a lot of time in and out of various medical facilities at the moment.

In other news I've moved on from ice creams to ice lollies.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 03/10/2023 00:54

I stayed in hotel in Sweden that had a little sign on the breakfast buffet saying 'Lots of people ask us about our scrambled egg recipe, so here it is'. It was half egg and half cream. Which was, in my opinion, Too Much Cream - it was much more like custard than scrambled egg. Some cream is definitely a good thing though, especially when supplemented with butter.

Dammit I wondered where that post had ended up! I did repeat it on the right thread though. Congratulations on getting it in 2 @Gonners

I have just discovered there’s now an edit feature on the iPad app - corrected a typo and added this sentence.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 03/10/2023 13:40

Ooh how do you do that?

Britinme · 03/10/2023 13:41

If you press the share button it posts that image to the clipboard and you can paste it.

Britinme · 03/10/2023 13:42

If you meant the edit feature it's been added to the little < image on the bottom right.

This morning I ‘ave been mostly enjoying the Middle Ground thread, and the latest “argument” for allowing men into women’s toilets is…

How would you keep Lucy Letby out of the toilets when she could murder your baby in there?

Tricyrtis2022 · 03/10/2023 16:46

I've been following that one, Mavis. That poster is deranged. I wonder if people like that believe what they write or are just trolling.

MavisMcMinty · 03/10/2023 16:54

Oh definitely trolling, although until “face calipers” and Lucy Letby appeared in their argument, it was just the same old same old.

Tricyrtis2022 · 03/10/2023 17:05

The face calipers things was just bizarre. I kept thinking of 'The Shawshank Redemption' and Andy Dufresne saying 'Are you being deliberately obtuse?'.

Still, it was mildly entertaining and the women were as brilliant, and patient, as usual.

MavisMcMinty · 03/10/2023 17:07

Poor Lucy Letby. Imagine becoming the new Myra Hindley/Rose West in TRA arguments.

artant · 03/10/2023 18:22

A bit behind the conversation: I’m not sure I’ve ever put cream in scrambled eggs but it sounds like a good thing (though I seldom have cream going spare). My own overly indulgent scrambled egg suggestion is the addition of Boursin cheese (or similar).

Gonners · 03/10/2023 18:48

I found myself distracted by the fact that he couldn't even spell "Goddess" correctly in his own username.

On the scrambled eggs question, I like to add a bit of grated Pecorino Romano. Not too much, just enough to add a slight tang. I don't think cream appeals, though if I ever have any going spare I'm prepared to give it a try in the hope of being wrong.

Kucinghitam · 03/10/2023 19:27

Boursin in scrambled egg sounds delicious! I'm going to give that a try.

CyanCrystalViolet · 03/10/2023 21:06

I’m not sure I’ve ever added cream to scrambled eggs but I do like them scrambled in half a block of butter.

CyanCrystalViolet · 03/10/2023 21:07

Oh and peeling eggs is a loathsome task. No way I’d be peeling the whole family’s.

Britinme · 03/10/2023 21:26

Can somebody link me to the Middle Ground thread? I found one that had those words in the title but it only had two posts.

Britinme · 03/10/2023 23:56
