Mine is a tiara - not necessarily an expensive one - costume jewellery really - but I would never have an occasion to wear one, and as I have a face like a homely potato, I’d look ridiculous in one. But I still get that little yearning, if I see one on FB or Etsy.

I want an Ecosphere, I find them totally fascinating!

LilacpointMummy · 29/02/2024 15:58

I have really enjoyed this thread!

I hope some of the people wanting Siamese cats have acquired them - I can definitely recommend them for cuddles and general loveliness 😻

LilacpointMummy · 29/02/2024 15:59

And I really really want Diagon Alley Lego, even though my hands don't work very well and I couldn't build it.

Bluevelvetsofa · 29/02/2024 16:17

Someone to buy my house, so that we can downsize and have a small amount of spare cash. Looks like it’s not going to happen.

Hoglet70 · 29/02/2024 16:22

A thermometer that syncs with my phone. I don't know why I want it. I haven't taken my temperature in years but it exists and I want it.

Is this a name change fail or were there two people who wanted a harpsichord on this one thread?

Tortelliniortortelloni · 29/02/2024 18:15

A cat. 😻

Renamed · 29/02/2024 19:18

I used to want one of those life sized lion toys you saw in Hamleys - I knew they were very expensive though, about £80 (in the 70s). I’ve just googled and they seem to be cheaper now… might have to wait until I get my Real Big House with the enormous bedroom though…. Not so sure anymore about the circular bed I also used to want…

Fitzbillie · 29/02/2024 20:50

We’ve still got our Hamleys life size tiger, @Renamed It’s currently guarding it’s third generation of the Fitzbillie family!

The ones they sell now aren’t the same. Ours has a sturdy metal frame inside that can take the weight of an adult. They were intended for climbing on. You can buy them from the manufacturer in the US still but they are insanely expensive at $900 plus £250 handling fee plus import duties and VAT! That’s the sale price! TBF $900 (£700) is about the same value as £70 in £1975. They do an animatronic version too for $3000!

I guess you probably don’t care about riding your lion though 😂

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 29/02/2024 21:58

@Ginmonkeyagain If I had a vacancy for a dressing gown, I’d totally add that one to my stable. But I haven’t, so I think you should. Now, which colour…?

Renamed · 29/02/2024 22:26

That’s lovely @Fitzbillie to think of your heirloom tiger, and I think I would definitely have wanted to sit on it. I hadn’t thought about what was inside!

A baby grand piano.

I can't play the piano, but my excuse is that if I spent a bazillionty pounds on one, it would be a good motivator to learn? Plus they look pretty.

(I would also have to buy a house with a living room / music room big enough to put a baby grand piano in, but that's academic.)

Me too! I also can't play, and live in such a tiny place that if the piano moves in I would have to move out. I still want one though!

Noneofourbusiness · 01/03/2024 12:57

Only read half of this thread. I am now looking for big puffy ballgowns and tiaras to buy 🤣

Anyone have any recommendations on where to buy?

Ginmonkeyagain · 01/03/2024 14:14

@SomethingNastyInTheBallPool definitely the gold coloured one

MorrisZapp · 01/03/2024 14:21

Jenners in Edinburgh (RIP) used to have a full size shire horse in the toy department. Oh how I coveted that horse. Imagine if you owned one, even the postman would want a shot on it.

Shutters for all my downstairs windows so I can close the bottom half and open the top half -and pretend I'm not in if necessary-

This is exactly what I want. Was on the verge of doing it too, until I found out our windows won’t work with the easy-fit type. 🙄

Doingnothingisntfun · 01/03/2024 14:35

How did I not realise how old this thread is?

TokyoSushi · 01/03/2024 14:42

I still don't have the shutters @Doingnothingisntfun!

Meezer2 · 01/03/2024 14:44

Get a Siamese cat. You won't regret it! The most loyal, loving, beautiful cats ever

One utterly unnecessary thing you really want.

Awww! What a cutie! I wish I had a cat (again). But currently not the best idea for us (unfortunately!) 🥲

listsandbudgets · 01/03/2024 18:16

An elephant - I've always rather wanted one ever since I was a tiny child. My parents got me a CAT instead.. I mean what's wrong with elephants we had a nice big garden I'm sure it would have been perfectly happy.

However, since become an adult I've realised that they're a mildly impractical pet so I've consoled myself with 2 cats and a dog..

Still want an elephant though but have moved from my parents saying no to DP putting his foot down and to be fair I'm not sure how the neighbours would feel.... or what sort of looks I'd get when I took it for a stroll in the park.

When the children have flown the nest I'm off to meet elephants

ThreeBearsPorridge · 01/03/2024 18:42

Actually I’ve always wanted a pet owl

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/03/2024 19:57

DD and I kept rescued guinea-pigs , one of mine was a Himalayan (ivory coat , ruby eyes , chocolate "points" nose ears paws)
There's a new-ish breed "Californian" which is a sandy/golden/buff coat , points and dark eyes .
I covet madly (but now we have cats so no guineas)

And though I'm not a rabbit fan, I do love hares (but they aren't pets)
There's a breed "Polish Rabbit" but the English not American.
They weigh about a kilogram and are tiny like miniature hares. Long ears and a sleek non chunky body . But not an easy rabbit to keep . There wouldn't be any in Rescue
And again - cats prohibit them )

Random rabbit photo attached . (I am assured this is a UK Polish Grin )

One utterly unnecessary thing you really want.
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/03/2024 20:01

And some Cali Guinea Pigs

I know the title is "One Thing" but as you cannot keep a single piggie I'll say this group is a "One"

One utterly unnecessary thing you really want.
