I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

Flowers to all who need them today

Today is a busy one

  • a locksmith is on way to change front door lock - my car was 'broken into' in the early hours of Sunday and we are one house key down. So, best to be safe and get door lock changed. I say broken into - car had been left unlocked so I guess they thought they had got lucky. There was nothing of value in it; but I've now got the ick at someone sitting in my driver's seat (whilst have been faffing about he has arrived, done it and left)
  • I am full of nervous energy so 2 washing loads done + dried. I need to put away the dry clothes now.
  • bedding changed and I am tidying up and polishing furniture as I walk around the house
  • need to find a home for nanoblock packs as I needed to repair a giraffe leg yesterday (!)
  • need to empty the dishwash
  • make sure all my paint brushes are clean
  • go into shed and get the small sander out
  • book some annual leave off otherwise I'll lose 10 days off before the end of the year.
  • I also need to change my teams photo as I have a fancy new haircut. I'm presenting at some town hall thing soon, so whilst I dont have to be on camera my photo has to be on the presentation. I'll have to get out of my manky hoody as well 😃
That's all for today, have a good day, SoE

@Peridot1 sorry to hear about your sister. That must be very scary for both of you. 😢💐

WinterLobelia · 04/12/2023 19:28

Seasonal namechange. [twirls]

Hope so much that your sister had better news today @Peridot1

And that your dad is okay @petalpower .

So sorry to hear about your car breakin @SpiritOfEdna . It must feel like such a violation.

Thanks to everyone.

All okay here. This week has been designated as getting the house back in order week after the new carpets. DH walked upstairs with his muddy shoes onto the new carpets Hmm so he is under the patio carpet shampooing them as we speak.

Other than that we are trying to do our tax return before the accountant-imposed deadline of 18th December. Plus sort out regular christmas stuff. I am not panicking- yet.

Hope everyone is fine. xx

petalpower · 04/12/2023 21:58

Just wrote a long post which I’ve lost.
I really hope today was the best it could be for your sister @Peridot1 .
My dad was discharged after just a day without anyone finding out what support was at home for him with his permanent medical attachment. We were just given a booklet to read. My stepmother seems a bit overwhelmed and I feel bad going home tomorrow. The district nurse is coming out tomorrow and I won’t leave until they’ve been.
@RunningKatie i listen to podcasts at night when I can’t sleep which I find helpful.

petalpower · 04/12/2023 22:57

My husband would be under the patio too @WinterLobelia and it sounds like exactly the sort of thing he’d do.
Sorry to hear about your car break in @SpiritOfEdna .
How long until baby is due now @Mumtobabyhavoc ? Will there be a name change needed for you?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/12/2023 03:11

Hello lovely people. 🥰
No tasks at home today. No sleep last night (5 hours broken sleep doesn't count...).
Took Havoc to gymnastics then spur of the moment decision to go to the aquarium and catch the "Santa Dive."

Was good for such a rainy day - we have an "atmospheric river" atm and it is absolutely torrential out. 🌧️🌧️🌧️

Unsure if I'll name-change...😃🤷‍♀️
(Baby will arrive Dec 28!) 😬

Aria999 · 05/12/2023 03:26

@Mumtobabyhavoc sorry about the sleep.

MomToDoubleHavoc?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/12/2023 04:33

Oh, Aria, I hope not! 😲

WinterLobelia · 05/12/2023 06:26

The aquarirum looks amazing @Mumtobabyhavoc !

I'd love to go to Canada. One day. [dreams]

I hope the district nurse is helpful @petalpower It's outrageous that families are expected to get on with it with so little support- yet the responsible family members might be very frail themselves. My FIl had a fall over Christmas 2016 and he was shoved out of hospital ( early morning hours without any of us being told) clearly too early and with no support whatsoever and no family at all nearby. A stressful time I recall too well.

Today I have 2 school runs to do; more moving stuff around (my self designated dressing / ironing room is exciting me no end - sad times.... ) and i have to figure out something nicer to make for dinner than the salmon fishcakes I made yesterday that none of us like to begin with. I don't know what I was thinking.

Hope everyone has a lovely and peaceful day.

SpiritOfEdna · 05/12/2023 10:48

@Mumtobabyhavoc Dec 28th - how exciting! You must be so ready now.

Today:

  • Try and catch neighbours before they go off travelling for a month - we have loads of Amazon deliveries here for them. I am not jealous at all. Nope.
  • Every time I open the wardrobe side with shelves, things fall out... goal is to get one shelf sorted today - once I start I'll probably do all 4.
  • I can walk SpiritDoggo at her usual time today
  • I've done one of my new habit stacking routines - glass of water, wordle, guardian x-word, made bed, got clothes ready for tomorrow, done morning stretches
Busy work day, so best get on, have a good day all, SoE

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/12/2023 14:58

@SpiritOfEdna Feeling like I've got so much to do, actually! 😵‍💫 Otherwise, belly feel huge and stretched and in that sense I'm ready. 🤣🤣🤣

Been awake 3 hrs now, since 4am. Ugh.

Aria999 · 05/12/2023 15:02

@Mumtobabyhavoc yes I hated the last few weeks of pregnancy. I was just so enormous and still kept getting bigger!

DS was also 2 weeks overdue and had to be induced which didn't help.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/12/2023 17:11

Oh, god, Aria. I would die! 😲I'm so glad I'm scheduled! 🤣

Aria999 · 05/12/2023 17:18

I was scheduled with DD2, it was sooo much better!

Thunderinglightly · 05/12/2023 17:32

Evening! It's all go round these parts. I hooe you get some hopeful news from your sister @Peridot1 @petalpower has your DF considered a carer to assist with the medical thing? Just to act as support for his wife if nothing else. Please don't feel guilty for going home 💕 If you can help them get set up you'll be doing a wonderful thing. Nobody can do it all and you have so many responsibilities already!

Counting down @Mumtobabyhavoc . Doubletroube, perhaps? 😂 Exciting times!

I am very weary so I won't tag everyone but I read your threads and cheer you all on every day. I do habit stacking too @SpiritOfEdna Really helps! Apparently research shows that cleaning teeth before breakfast is the thing to do. I was always told to do them afterwards and that's what my children did too but apparently guidance has changed. Might make it easier to remember? (I still think it's weird, and don't take my word for it)

Long day but dinner prepared and ready to go. I did 6 hours work which is all I'm fit for, a couple of errands for DH, mum's washing and the house is tidy. Sitting with a glass of red (just a little one) and about to do a crossword while waiting for DH who is on way home from a meeting.

Best wishes to all!

petalpower · 05/12/2023 18:36

No chance of him accepting any help or allowing people in unfortunately @Thunderinglightly. District nurses have been out this morning and were very helpful but will only come back in an emergency or if there’s a particular issue rather than for regular support.

SingleThreadJoiner · 06/12/2023 09:41

Hello all and sorry I've missed so much. We've had people staying since Monday night - which is lovely and tricky (too much info would be outing) because H and I are trying to have normal work-days while still being hospitable to people who are visiting the country for the first time! But they are off to London for a day trip today so that is helpful, logistics-wise. So household tasks have just been a matter of keeping things tidy, keeping guests fed, supplied with bedding, towels, etc.
Going to the physio today for an arm pain that has been bothering me for three months - kept thinking it would go away but instead it just got worse...

So sorry many of you are having tricky times with loved ones. And the car break-in is just so upsetting too.

Hoping to be more focused on things after tomorrow, when guests depart!

Sunny greetings ☀

BertieBotts · 06/12/2023 10:33

Hello can I join? I am always in need of a bit more motivation and support. I have ADHD and find getting started on tasks very difficult! I have to prioritise three things to focus on and then not pay attention to other things.

My three focuses at the moment are:

  • Improving the house
  • Finding a job/training
  • The DC (particularly DS2 who is struggling a bit at the moment with social skills and emotional regulation).
This morning I have moved some clothing to the dryer and I have fitted some insulating film stuff to the kitchen window in the hope of keeping it a bit more cosy in there. We took the door off because we couldn't fit the fridge in, and the window is old so it's always cold in there. I've already fitted some draught excluding stuff to the window and put some plaster in to fix a gap between the frame and the wall. DS3 is poorly home from Kindergarten so have him to keep busy as well - they watch far too much shit youtube and I have just discovered how to block channels from showing up in the recommended bit so I have been trying to weed all of that out too.

Still need to post a parcel from vinted, reply to another vinted message, then ???? Probably be time to pick DS2 up by then.

TawnyT · 06/12/2023 11:18

Hello! I'd love to join the thread if you'll have me 😀I always feel like I'm struggling to keep on top of things atm and lacking in motivation/queen of procrastination. I'd like to be more on top of things like cleaning chores and life admin instead of feeling like I have a never ending list of things to do, it all gets a bit overwhelming and I end up just doing nothing because I don't know where to start! This feels like a nice way to check in and make a plan for where to start so let's go...

  • Today I will finish sorting my arts and craft supplies on my lunch break (I work from home..)

  • I will walk the dog while it's still light out (need that vitamin D!)

I've already remembered to send DD to nursery with her photo request form so that's something.

@SingleThreadJoiner life feels so busy when you have guests right!? Hope physio helps!

@BertieBotts Hello! I'm new here too! Sounds like you've achieved a fair bit already today tbf, especially with having a poorly little one in tow!

Hope everyone is having a good productive day 🌟

WinterLobelia · 06/12/2023 11:24

Oooh newcomers!

Welcome @BertieBotts and @TawnyT !

Today for me- trying to cure my attack of raging apathy and put the house back together after carpets. I also have had a lengthy discussion with DH about applying for a new job. We decided this one isn't the right one but I am keeping an eye out.

@BertieBotts specifying 3 things to focus on is a good strategy. I get overwhelmed really easily and then give up. (Like- now). I might try and do that as well.

I cleaned the fridge though.

I will go now and collect one of the bags we filled with crap and will put the contents back in the rooms they are meant to be in. Then I will collect another. It's like the old joke... how do you eat an elephant. One bite at a time.

BertieBotts · 06/12/2023 11:39

Well I put some more washing on, the dishwasher too and then I put some clothes away. Then I thought I had better feed us before we go and pick up the older one.

petalpower · 06/12/2023 12:26

Welcome @BertieBotts and @TawnyT ! Good to see you again @SingleThreadJoiner - hope you have a productive day without your visitors!
I’m just sitting waiting at the dentist. Hopefully will be seen soon.

SpiritOfEdna · 06/12/2023 13:26

welcome @BertieBotts and @TawnyT .I have had a (work) morning where I can't settle to do any one thing, but have just walked the dog so that has settled some of the flightiness. I have a busy afternoon of meetings, starting imminently, but when they finish I will crack on:

  • I've had a gym session this morning and done my morning routine
  • need to go to post office, pick up a parcel, send a parcel
  • hoover up all the dust I swept into one spot this morning
  • need to clean my work desk - it's covered in ink from yesterday's art 'project' so I can work in more than a square foot of space 😃
  • I have a new daily job to keep the kitchen worktops clutter free (it's usually littered with keys, post, dish cloths, pegs!), so will do that shortly.
That's all for now, have a good day all, SoE

Aria999 · 06/12/2023 14:13

Welcome @BertieBotts and @TawnyT !

@SpiritOfEdna I find keeping the kitchen tidy is a massive drain on time and energy. It's amazing the random stuff that creeps in and sits on the table and work surfaces. At present in my kitchen I have a never used child's tent peg (why, just why?) a broken control for Christmas candles that I need to try with a new battery, a pile of kids art and a stuffed hippo, a sketch book, the tv control that I hid from the kids yesterday evening, and all the actual kitchen stuff waiting for the dishwasher..

<hides under the table >

Good luck on the job hunt @WinterLobelia !

Hope the people with medical stuff going on are ok @petalpower @Peridot1

Today is a short day as school is closing early for some reason and DS7 with impeccable timing managed to get himself on a one day ban from after school for Behavior.

Let's see if I can blitz:
Kitchen (again!)
Laundry (again/still!)
Kitchen floor (getting embarrassing)
Kids rooms (got them 3/4 habitable at the weekend with the kids, just need to finish it off so I can Actually Hoover In There).

Aria999 · 06/12/2023 16:45

Kitchen, kitchen floor and laundry done.

Kitchen floor is a pain, it's cork and bits really stick to it so as well as the vacumop I have to scrape bit of garlic peel off with my fingernails and spot clean extra-sticky patches.

I may have had a half hour break in the middle to scroll Mumsnet as I was so darn bored 😳

Need to eat lunch now as didn't get round to breakfast then not much time left till pickup.
