and anyone else who would like to join us, whatever your daily tasks are.

I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

Gosh @Aria999 , your 'didn't do much else' is my 'massive list of things done'! 😆 Car services are always a major time sink...the garage that does ours at least acknowledges this and has comfy seats and tables and free wi-fi for people to get some work done 😄

@petalpower I hope you are feeling comforted by the plans you are putting in place for your family. You seem quite ready for Christmas!

I'm solo parenting for the rest of week as H is on a work trip, so keeping my expectations for any kind of domestic productivity extremely low. But he took a few Christmas cards with him to write on his trip! Other than that, focusing on arranging Christmas presents for teachers etc. including the class present, and bits and pieces for people we're likely to see before Christmas.

How is it less than two weeks to it already?????

SpiritOfEdna · 13/12/2023 13:35

Morning

  • buy more lights for the tree (how did we manage last year on a tree that was bigger than this one? ) On an amazon delivery for tomorrow
  • pick up GNiece from school so we can rehearse the christmas 'play'
  • 2 big work deployments went in successfully today so work can take a back seat for the rest of the day
  • Go and see Macbeth tonight. Ralph Fiennes & Indira Varma 😄 So very excited. At least if the performance gets cancelled I don't have far to get home!
  • I've had a gym session this morning so I definitely need to jump in shower soon.
  • Went to pay for a big online shop with a gift voucher only to find out you can only use them in store - so need to sort out a shopping trip I don't really want to do.
That's all for today, have a good one, SoE

We are back from our travels, I now have an absolute mountain of washing to power through. We had an amazing time, although shattered now.
I need to go into full on Christmas organising mode now, dh is off today but has disappeared on a long dog walk. Helpful as we have empty food cupboards and all the radiators need bleeding.
Must keep calm, it's all fine.
Safe travels @Peridot1, absolutely sounds the right decision to go.

TawnyT · 14/12/2023 08:58

Morning morning!

@SingleThreadJoiner how's solo parenting going? Lowering expectations on everything else is the way to go for sure, I find I really enjoy it if I can forget about anything else that needs doing.

So my main 'job' today is to keep my screen tine down, I've been spending way to much time doom scroling social media (like 4 hours yesterday!?!?) So I've set a screen time limit on my phone for today. When I think about it 4 hours is just ridiculous, I'm working 7 hours of the day and with the little one for 5 hours so that's either the rest of my day spent looking at my phone or it's eating into my work/parenting time. And there's so many other things to do, not just chores either, I have tons of books to read and podcasts to listen to and creative projects to work on...

Other things I will attempt to do

-walk dog
-Clear desk
-pay off Christmas dinner
-buy Xmas gifts for nieces and nephews

petalpower · 14/12/2023 09:33

Morning all! Today I’m going to:

  • Paint base coat on the newly plastered walls in dining room
  • dentist appointment
  • relatives meeting at nursing home
  • drop off present and card
  • wrap more presents
  • finalise Christmas menu plans for 21st December until 2nd January (period that we have visitors staying)
Aria999 · 14/12/2023 14:42

@SingleThreadJoiner I think the difference is I don't have any work at the moment so I have a whole day in which to achieve things! Maybe I should follow @TawnyT example and put a screen time limit on my phone!

Today I have the electrician doing the fan blade replacement and DS7 is off school not feeling well.

Need to tidy the house and fold 2 baskets of laundry.

@Peridot1 safe travels, I'm sure your sister will really appreciate you being there.

@SpiritOfEdna how was Macbeth? Can't remember when I last went to the theatre!

Welcome back @RunningKatie good luck with the washing piles!

FrostyFogg · 14/12/2023 20:31

Hello! Ex-retiree here with a @WinterLobelia inspired name change #also twirls!

You've all been very busy!

I wrapped some Christmas presents today.
Put mother's decorations up with sibling.
Repotted a plant (not sure if it's the right time of year but it's outgrown it's pot)
Took delivery of bedding for spare room.

Had coffee with a friend i haven't seen for weeks so that was nice.

I hope you have all had a good day flowers 💐

TawnyT · 14/12/2023 20:45

Had a (not so) surprisingly productive day having ditched the social media for the day!

Dog walked ✔️
Desk cleared ✔️
Xmas dinner paid for ✔️

Going to order Xmas gifts once the little one is asleep. Also managed to update my finances spreadsheet for next year and set up a subscription for dog food.

Hope everyone has a had a good day!

SingleThreadJoiner · 14/12/2023 21:37

@SpiritOfEdna how was the theatre? It sounds potentially marvellous!

Excellent new name @FrostyFogg

I am still standing! Still about 48 hours to go...successfully took D to the dentist yesterday after school; wrote and posted/put through doors a few Christmas cards; updated online shopping order to include some biscuits etc. that need to go as presents; took D to swimming lesson; managed to keep us both washed and clothed and fed with homecooked (defrosted....) meals. I think that's enough!

I will live through everyone else's achievements 😄

Peridot1 · 15/12/2023 08:56

Hello all.

Im back at home since yesterday. My sister had a liver transplant last night. It went well apparently. Onwards and upwards for her now hopefully. She was very very ill. Was put on the transplant list on Wednesday afternoon and one became available yesterday. Bittersweet obviously thinking about the family of the donor and what they are going through.

petalpower · 15/12/2023 09:15

Oh my goodness @Peridot1 . What a blessing that a liver became available so quickly but as you say bittersweet. Families who make this brave decision to donate their loved ones organs are angels. How long will your sister be in hospital? Hope you’re ok and the rest of your extended family.

Peridot1 · 15/12/2023 09:48

Thanks @petalpower. I think she will be in hospital for a few weeks. The consultant said recovery is normally around two weeks but as she was so ill he would think it could be about four weeks. But it’s hard to know.

WinterLobelia · 15/12/2023 10:48

Morning all.

@Peridot1 what a blessing for your sister as you say. I hope so much that your sister is soon better and is able to return home and recovers brilliantly well. Thanks

Thoughts to with the other family. How strong they were.

Love your new user name @FrostyFogg

Hi to everyone.

Not much going on here- wrapping gifts- going to post office (twice)- cards- end of term- getting Christmas gifts for teachers- about to go pick up the Dcs. I can't see the point of a final half day finishing at noon, but at least it gives us a great excuse to go out for lunch.

Festive blessings to everyone on our lovely thread. I hope everyone and all your families have a truly wonderful Christmas and joyful 2024!

SpiritOfEdna · 15/12/2023 11:13

oh my days @Peridot1 what a whirlwind turn of events. Here's to a good recovery period for your sister.

Macbeth was very very good - Indira Varma was excellent - and got a well deserved standing ovation, as did Ralph Fiennes. I really hope the venue remains as a theatre - it will be next to the big development which is going on next door to create a massive film hub. I am resolved to go the theatre more next year (but it is blooming expensive - especially if it gets cancelled 😄 )

Am on a day's leave today, so hoping it is going to be productive until I go to try out RP tonight.

  • gym session - DONE
  • big supermarket shop - DONE
  • pick up some amazon deliveries - NEXT
  • start decorating the christmas trees now the lights have all arrived - IN PROGRESS
  • Get a washing load on - NEXT
  • walk SpiritDoggo - NEXT
  • try out a new class - Reformers Pilate - 17:30
There's more I need to try and fit in, like brushing and hoovering the floors, I've got about 5 hours to fill before I go to class. Going to crack on now, have a good day, SoE.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/12/2023 01:12

SoE, another impressive list! You inspire me. ☺️
Peridot, best wishes for your sister. I had a family member also a recipient of a transplant and had many years as a result.

Managed to paint more of hallway and now only a tiny bit left to do there. Baseboard repair looks decent (pic below) compared to how banged up it was and the gap at the corner). I can live with it now. Moved on to dining area and spackled baseboard/wall cracks and various dings. The wall itself will be easy painting, but it's a half wall opening to see kitchen and the top part is a mess. Spackled so much... hoping once sanded that a couple coats of paint will do the trick.
Did this all in about 90 mins while Havoc napped, so feeling productive.

petalpower · 16/12/2023 09:22

You should be sitting with your feet up @Mumtobabyhavoc ! I can’t believe how much you achieve at this late stage in pregnancy.
Any news on your sister @Peridot1 ?
Another manic day here - so much that I need to do.

  • visit auntie at the home with DS who is visiting for the weekend
  • take DS to the hairdressers as his car is currently at the garage being fixed and he’s not insured
  • continue with the painting (although our very lovely neighbours have just turned up to help!)
  • and lots of other things that would take too long to write down.
Have a great day everyone!
FrostyFogg · 16/12/2023 09:46

Hello everyone! @TawnyT I have to go cold turkey on my phone (Ok MN 😳) every now and again. I don't even post much but am an inveterate lurker. I'm pleased you had a productive day 😊

My very best wishes to your sister and all your family @Peridot1 Thoughts with the other family too, of course. How very brave of them!

You are doing rather a lot @Mumtobabyhavoc but I suspect you are like me. I felt dreadful for the first 12 weeks or so then bounced around full of beans right up the delivery date. I really needed maternity leave at the beginning, not the end, though I was self employed at the time and didn't get either really. Not long now!!

@petalpower you are doing loads and I'm happy you have some help! I'm back to retirement for another month but there is plenty to do around here. I will finally get the decorations up today.

I'm learning a lot about painting, decorating and generally keeping up with stuff from everybody's inspiring posts. So thank you all - plus the chit-chat is nice!

Hoping you all stay safe, well and germ free for the holiday period.

Best wishes to all 💕

Peridot1 · 16/12/2023 12:22

@petalpower - she deteriorated a bit yesterday and needed a lot of blood so they took her back into theatre and there was a tear in an artery. They fixed that. She had a stable night. Hasn’t needed more bloods and is on dialysis for her kidneys which is apparently normal. Still sedated but they may take her off the ventilator today.

petalpower · 16/12/2023 13:00

Oh my goodness @Peridot1 . She’s been through such a lot. Good that she is stable and that they are hoping to take her off the ventilator.

FrostyFogg · 16/12/2023 14:56

I have adult children with own homes, for all newbies/lurkers who might think that WhatsApp communication is the way of this household 🙈

WinterLobelia · 16/12/2023 14:59

@FrostyFogg I text my Dcs when i want them to come out of their rooms for dinner. Smile

Hope your sister feels a very great deal better today @Peridot1 . Thanks to you all.

RunningKatie · 16/12/2023 15:04

@Peridot1 - your poor sister, hope she's slowly on the mend, she's really been through it.
My dc are still at home, but I've discussed with dh getting a gong to summon them. They seem to not hear any requests for their presence, and we've not quite hit teenagerdom yet.
Today I've started stocking up on festive food and done some online shopping. The panic is beginning to set in, dc2 has a very short and random list of requests so there's a disparity in gifts and very little time to sort it.
Anyway, got an hour till dh and dc1 are back so I'm going to start cleaning. I can hardly take the excitement.

petalpower · 17/12/2023 08:45

Today is another painting day - DH is laying the oak floor in the dining room and we’re now on a very tight schedule to get things done on the building project for Christmas. My dad and stepmother are supposed to be arriving on Thursday but my dad is being very tricky and my lovely stepmother is struggling to cope. I’m not sure whether she will be up to driving to us so we may need to cobble together another plan between us to fetch them (6 hour round trip). It feels like we have suddenly reached crisis point with them very suddenly needing more support. Lots of phone calls and upset yesterday on many levels. We haven’t got a single decoration up and I have nearly all the presents to wrap (they are bought at least). I am just having a restorative cup of tea and then will get up from my Sunday lie in.
Have a good day everyone - not tagging you all but I have been reading all of your achievements and challenges.
