I joined after procrastinating putting up some curtain tie backs and now I am flying through a massive decluttering exercise. (I need to tackle the loft next, but I may need to sit down (a lot) before I do that 😄).

Hope the tagging works, SoE.

Busy day here, I'm wfh so catching up with work but also writing the biggest list ever.
Yesterday in the post at work, we got a response to a letter we sent in 2012. Now, that's what I call crossing a job off the list, I probably have 11 year old jobs though so must be careful what I say!
Hope all are well and safe and braced for the next storm. I need to rescue a rug from the line, ddog was sick on it and it's not made it to the washing machine yet.

SpiritOfEdna · 31/10/2023 13:29

morning, I must go back and read what everyone is up to but I am in a panic today! Off to London on Saturday and SpiritCoco is being looked after by a rota of different relatives and the house is suffering from a lack of attention so I have been flying round today every spare minute to tidy something. Thus:

  • spare part is now in the oven
  • tiles in bathroom are being cleaned every time I go past the bathroom
  • dishwasher emptied and dishes put away so worktops can be cleaned
  • the hob needs to be cleaned
  • dried clothes have been decamped to bedrooms
  • shoes have been gathered and are waiting at the bottom of the stairs to go to different rooms
  • clean the stair banister as I go up and down
  • recycling thus far is now in outside bin
  • floors need to be cleaned - they are very dusty
  • hire a carpet cleaner for tomorrow till Friday to clean sofa & rugs - again very dusty from the dog.
  • need to walk SpiritDoggo x 2 today. 1 down, 1 to go
My bedroom deserves it's own list as I have decamped to the spare room while I renovate the bed. I've earmarked this evening for this as I am busy at work today as well.
  • clean all the bed parts as they have a layer of sawdust on
  • sweep the floors and dust everywhere
  • mop the floors
  • put the bed back together again - finally all the sodding scraps of varnish are off
  • open the windows to let some air circulate and dust settle, so I can move back in tomorrow - I get to finally use the new duvet and bedding I bought for the occasion
That's all for now, have a great day all and I'll go read back, SoE

Hi all! Bit blowy out but at least the rain's stopped.

Love the 2012 postmark @RunningKatie!
I too am doing a big list. I went from feeling all empowered on Monday to crap yesterday. Today is better again so I plan to go with the flow clutching a list which will have things of varying difficulty, depending on where I'm at on any given day.

I hope you got through the panicky day @SpiritOfEdna

Today so far I have achieved a clean fridge and a decision about dinner. Yesterday we ended up ordering a takeaway which we never normally do. And also a big long chat with sibling about our mum and how we are coping with her care on a day to day basis. No big decisions made but a sense of support. And then quite a big glass of wine to celebrate, and an early night with a book because we know how to live 😎

SingleThreadJoiner · 01/11/2023 12:13

Oof, I've been in online meetings straight from 9.30 to 12, my head is spinning! Thankfully it's almost lunchtime so that's an enforced screen break 😵

Did everyone have a happy Halloween? We went trick or treating as a group, six little 4yos, it was quite the sight! And the noise! But D was extremely pleased with her (frankly enormous) haul 🎃

I also managed a stretch class yesterday, and three loads of laundry, and in the process of looking for something I pulled out a bunch of storage boxes from the wardrobe and rationalised things so that I now have one fewer box - result! I think today is just more laundry, and maybe trying to list a couple of items for sale.

@Mumtobabyhavoc I continue to be amazed every day at your efforts!!
@OrangePumpkinLobelia and @Peridot1 I hope you had a good flight and stayed out of the storm - it's raining buckets here right now - and a good trip overall.

And indeed I hope there is ok weather for everyone at the moment! Can't believe it's November already 😨

SpiritOfEdna · 01/11/2023 12:43

@Thunderinglightly - a productive discussion always deserves an early night with a good book!

So after that huge list I absolutely slept well last night as I moved back into my own room once I put the bed back together and cleaned up - it was too inviting. There are some left overs from the above list but they can be done at a leisurely pace today/this evening.
Today

  • pick up the rug cleaner
  • do some ironing
  • finish cleaning bathroom
  • clean some rugs!
That is all for today, another busy work day for me, SoE

Happy November everyone.

We also snagged enough candy to last till next summer and the kids had fun.

Well done @SpiritOfEdna you finished the bed! Epic!

Enjoy your travels @OrangePumpkinLobelia and @Peridot1

Today I am having a walk with a friend and then a second attempt to meet the contractor about the under stairs cupboard. Other than that I need to sort the house out for the weekend as I don't want it to be horrible for the babysitter.. Aargh!

Yesterday I completed and had notarized forms authorizing the babysitter to take the kids to the doctor, checked our home insurance is still valid if she's here and we are not, and did a bit of work.

petalpower · 01/11/2023 13:47

Still here and reading but haven’t got round to posting. Since the weekend I’ve had a bit of a house reset. Lots of washing and bed changing after our visitors. Also doing those annoying little jobs and lots of putting things away! Against all expectations DH did a spectacular job of clearing and cleaning the dining room of rubble and dust so we were able to eat in there on Saturday night. Chaos has now returned as he is lifting the parquet floor in there to relay in our new room. Each piece has to be levered off individually and there has been a bit of bad language and also some blood spilled where he stuck a chisel into his hand. This afternoon I’m required to empty and move a sideboard and chest which contain china and glass. I’m not looking forward to it. Visited care home auntie this morning - she has had two falls over the past couple of days and was really not great this morning so I’m quite worried about her. Sending love to everyone else caring for elderly relatives. Flowers Sounds like you made some progress on that front yesterday @Thunderinglightly . Anyway, upwards and onwards, furniture removals call!

Aria999 · 01/11/2023 13:54

Good luck @petalpower that sounds like a lot!

Thunderinglightly · 03/11/2023 08:22

Morning all! Big hugs @petalpower 💐 So much going on!
Pleased the young'uns got a good Halloween haul. The heavens opened here during prime trick or treat time to unusually, nobody knocked this year. I have some lovely pictures of my great niece sitting in a pumpkin though 😍
@Aria999 I had to re read your post as I originally understood you to be meeting a contractor in the under stairs cupboard 🙈
Lovely to hear about bedroom being complete @SpiritOfEdna
I hope all are well after the storm. It was quite bad here with a few trees down. The saturated ground didn't help. So much worse elsewhere though. We had some flooding round here but none that affected major roads, I don't think.

Beautiful day today, sunny but soggy. I am meeting some friends for coffee later, so am looking forward to that. Dog walking with DD after that. And a bit more decluttering. I intend to look in a bureau where bits of old paperwork/cards etc tend to land then fester for years. Plus the usual housekeeping chores.

Have a lovely day everyone 💕

Aria999 · 03/11/2023 10:59

Lol @Thunderinglightly ! No, I met him next to where I hope it will be. He pulled a panel off, ummed and ah'd for a long time, doubled his original estimate, and is starting on Monday.

There clearly used to be an under stairs cupboard as the area is full of paper supermarket bags! But then the higher part got turned into a downstairs loo and there's a fair sized remaining bit that was just sealed away. Enough to fit the Hoover and vacumop anyway. I hope.

Thunderinglightly · 04/11/2023 06:50

Saturday already! How this week has flown!
@Aria999 I am trying to picture your under stairs area. Ours has been used for all sorts of things over the years, including a play house for the children, and currently just houses hoover etc. I pondered on putting a loo in and looks like would involve moving the door and bits of pipework and a radiator. These things are so complicated! It interests me how the houses on my road look much the same from the outside but have quite different layouts inside. I've lived here for 30 years so have been in a few of them.

I am listening to rain hammering against the window once again. DH is still asleep and I'm having a peaceful coffee downstairs. Wordle and connections ✅ Mopped kichen floor ✅ I will change the bedding when DH is up. I also have an overflowing pile of I don't know what that has crept into our bedroom. Books, clothes not put away. My mother never had this problem.....she is what flylady calls born organised. I now know that she tidies as she goes along and wouldn't dream of putting a pile of unsorted clean washing on the bed, then deciding that she's too tired to do it and will put it on the floor to deal with in the morning. Even in her 80s and quite frail, there is a place for everything and everything is in it's place. Time I picked up this habit, and I do for a while then fall off the wagon again.

I plan to finish today with the bedroom all beautiful and cosy!

All the best to all of you and I hope @Peridot1 and @OrangePumpkinLobelia have arrived safely xx

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 04/11/2023 08:34

Hi ans thanks @Thunderinglightly I did arrive safely but with some back pain and a most ridiculous amount of exhaustion. But otherwise very well.

The family wedding was today and went very well although I was slightly foggy.

Now drinking tea and about to retire for the night. Smile

Love to all the daily Projecteers.

petalpower · 04/11/2023 10:48

I get a bit twitchy when there are piles of random stuff @Thunderinglightly whereas DH has absolutely no problem with it and just doesn’t really notice they’re there!
It’s another horrible day again here - yet more rain. We seemed to miss the worst of the wind on Thursday but got more rain and, as the field and ditches are all saturated, we had more flooding on local roads. Fortunately the river down in the village didn’t burst this time but it was pretty close. DD wasn’t able to get into work and her friend who was supposed to be just staying the night on Wednesday ended up staying another night.
Care home auntie had another fall yesterday (the third in a week) so I’m visiting every other day now. I went in yesterday and plan to go tomorrow so today I don’t have to go anywhere apart from having dinner at friends tonight.
So far today:

  • supermarket shop has been delivered and put away ✔️
  • Wordle and Connections completed ✔️
  • dog walked in the rain ✔️
  • found rucksack for DD’s planned trip to Australia and South East Asia (can take it off the Christmas list now) ✔️
  • encouraged the printer to connect to my laptop and printed a couple of documents ✔️
  • opened the Amazon delivery that arrived yesterday and put boxes out for recycling ✔️
I now need to clean the fridge, do some ironing and continue the online Christmas shopping.

Sweet dreams! Hope your back eases. How long are you gone for?

Thunderinglightly · 04/11/2023 14:27

@petalpower I get twitchy too, then overwhelmed. But I am working on it! I am a daily project all of my own!
I am thrilled to say that the bedroom is sorted and I have done a basic menu plan. I have also just climbed out of a lovely bubbly bath as I got caught out in very heavy rain earlier

You are really on a roll @petalpower! I'm just flicking through one of those Scotts of Stowe type catalogues and attempting to choose something my mum might like for Christmas. DH is out and I'm enjoying having the house to myself.

petalpower · 04/11/2023 15:05

I’ve not cleaned the fridge yet but have done everything else. The Christmas shopping I’ve just really gone for over the past couple of days. Most things are planned for or bought apart from stocking presents which I still do even my children are now 21 and 23! I have a Christmas notebook which goes from year to year. I have lists of people to send cards to, presents bought and received, present ideas and menu plans for each day as we always have a houseful. After each Christmas I also write a few notes about what to remember for the following Christmas eg: last year I bought too many dips and not enough cheese, the wrapping paper needs replenishing, not to buy cards as I got them in the sales last year. Probably a bit over the top for some people but it works for me and when I was working full time and DH was working away all week every week and the children were younger it was a lifesaver.
I’ve bought a magazine subscription for my dad @Thunderinglightly - it’s a local one eg: if he lived in Yorkshire it would be called Yorkshire Life. Short articles and nice pictures which are now better for him than books.

RunningKatie · 04/11/2023 18:42

Evening all, we are inside away from fireworks. Ddog is fine inside but they spook him on a walk.
Done some birthday and Christmas sorting today. Every year I overthink things and it takes me too long. This year we are hosting so some serious cleaning/sorting needs to be done. The ILs, whilst lovely, don't hold back on comments - particularly FIL who holds quite archaic views.

Thunderinglightly · 05/11/2023 09:12

Good morning everyone! @RunningKatie weather has been so appalling here lately that I completely forgot it was bonfire night this weekend. We did hear a few fireworks last night but not much. There is still tonight, of course. I am looking forward to Christmas this year. We will see everybody so that will be nice, and I'm grateful that the 'children' are old enough to make their own fun!

@petalpower good call with the magazine subscription. Your family Christmas sounds lovely. You sound so very organised, which of course you must be given your career. I really, really struggle, and I finally learnt that I cope with life so much better when it is kept very simple.

I'm delighted to say that our bedroom is now back to how it should be! I slept really well last night and I have no doubt the two things are linked.

Today I am tackling the dining room table while it us not being used as an office. I would love to eat Sunday dinner on there regularly, at least. DH would eat off a tray on his lap every day of the year given a choice, and I realise I just go along with it, when I would prefer a nicely laid table, at least every now and again. Used to love the laying the table ritual when the children were young. So DH has agreed to a compromise 😊

petalpower · 05/11/2023 10:15

We had a few fireworks in the distance which Petaldog wasn’t very keen on. DH and I were out at friends for dinner but DD sat on the sofa with the dog whilst we were out and the fireworks didn’t go on for too long.
It looks like a much nicer day today thank goodness. I’ve had a bit of a lie in and am having a late breakfast before going to the care home. Planning on catching up with Strictly when I get back and not doing much else today. Most of the house is in a mess as the building work is now starting to encroach inside. DH is doing some of the work so there are tools everywhere and so much dust from where the parquet floor is being taken up. We are hoping to complete everything by Christmas, fingers crossed. It’s a really old house where you have to go through one room to get to the next so the mess is just getting trampled everywhere despite dust sheets. I just can’t wait for it to be finished now.
Have a good day all!

SpiritOfEdna · 05/11/2023 18:25

Fireworks here too; we actually were out walking spiritdoggo at the height of the noise and she wasn’t too fussed about the noise, now she’s home she is looking a bit more perturbed!

My trip to London yesterday was a bit of wasted effort - got to the theatre (King Lear) only to find it cancelled, possibly Kenneth B has Covid. It’s such a limited run the chances of getting other tickets are slim. Had a quick drink in Covent Garden went back to the station and came home. So my birthday treat was 5 hours in total on the train 🥳. On the upside the house looks amazing after all the prep last week 🤣

SingleThreadJoiner · 06/11/2023 15:25

Hello! I hope everyone had a good start to the week and is basking in sunshine. And that the various travels and building projects are going well!

@SpiritOfEdna how terribly frustrating about your unsuccessful birthday treat! It sounded so lovely, too! I really hope you do manage another chance...oh and happy birthday! 💐

Busy weekend here, had the mother-tongue-toddler playground on Saturday morning which had 27 children and 38 adults attending - far too much for my liking!! Fireworks in the evening, which were nice enough though brief - but just right for an excited 4yo who should have been starting her bedtime around that time 😅

I've got a visitor at the moment, a friend from home who is here for work for a few days, so Sunday morning was spent doing mad tidying to make the house look presentable and give him space to sleep. Always good to have these motivating visits to push me along!

I have had some small successes this morning, am on the second load of laundry, ordered some storage online as the D's Legos continue to breed and expand, signed her up for the next chunk of sports activity, and listed something on the Whatsapp baby stuff group. Pumpkin risotto for dinner tonight so got ahead of myself and roasted the pumpkin over lunch, should make the rest of the cooking a lot quicker later!

Back to work for another hour before D gets home...

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 06/11/2023 16:18

Afternoon all! 👋

So sorry @SpiritOfEdna about your birthday treat. But Happy Birthday!

Love pumpkin risotto @SingleThreadJoiner

Nothing to report here! Still away, still very busy and dashing around and dealing with jetlag which seems to be lingering. Not on MN that often which is good for my addiction. 😆 I am away for two weeks @Thunderinglightly Smile

Hope everyone is well and fine. ❤

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/11/2023 16:50

Morning all. ☺️
Just reading to catch-up.
Had a sick dc past week, not a lot to report otherwise. Just having a bit to eat and got a load of laundry in, then getting ready to take dc to gymnastics.

Aria999 · 06/11/2023 18:17

Oh no @SpiritOfEdna that is very upsetting! I can't believe they didn't tell you before you traveled all that way!

Sorry to hear Havoc is sick @Mumtobabyhavoc . We are getting into that time of year I fear.

Our weekend away was a resounding success. We had gorgeous weather. We spent hours in the museum and battlefield tour on Saturday and went on a moderately steep hike on Sunday. (View from the top).

DC would have been bored to tears in the museum and would not have coped with the hike.

Babysitter was great. Feel much better about our June trip now.

Daily Project Round 4
OrangePumpkinLobelia · 06/11/2023 18:56

That looks absolutely stunning @Aria999

So pleased the babysitter was good. It';s such a relief when you find someone you can feel good about.

Hope DC is better @Mumtobabyhavoc
