I don't usually pay much attention to Party conferences but LBC played an astonishing clip of Penny Mordaunt going full Mussolini in Manchester yesterday. It's quite something. Are they always this mad? Is this where they bring out their true selves for the believers? Words fail me.

I’ve been reading up on the guy who created Godwin’s law. It was inspired by American politics but he basically said that current events are excepted, we should all go ahead and compare to the Nazi’s when we see it if the alternative is ignoring it. So I’ll go ahead and say she sounds she’s auditioning for the third reich.

I'm starting to wonder if the levels of CO2 in the atmosphere are stopping people thinking straight...

even with the absence of any sort of evidence I have immediately bought into this.

So next time Just Stop Oil activists are arrested should they just tell the courts they were following her suggestion?

I thought Just Stop Oil generally sat down and stuck themselves, rather than standing up and fighting.

Is that why Tories don't like them?

So that's what they are doing wrong. Maybe they prefer Milwall fans

When your hashtag is only 4 letters and you still can’t quite get it right.

Make Grow Britain Again

Make Britain grow again? Clunky. Also, with what? More bullshit? Has not proved good fertiliser thus far.

InMySpareTime · 05/10/2023 16:09

They're emphatically anti-James as he encouraged sitting down.

InMySpareTime · 05/10/2023 16:11

Liz Truss wanted to grow the pie, maybe whatever was growing on the pie would also grow on Britain?

It was. My great, great grandparents were economic immigrants who fled the Potato Famine. I’m guessing they’d be looking at Rwanda now - like Beaverman’s.

Same here. Irish immigrants from potato famine aka economic migrants to Manchester. Kind, thoughtful people who became transport engineers, nurses, musicians, photographers, physios, communication tech workers, library assistants, school business managers....not to forget the granddad I never met who was in the RAF during WW2, fighting for the sunlit uplands (Boris can F* off pinching that) and against Nazi rule across Europe/beyond.

Easy for people to forget I'm a great great grandchild of immigrants (treated harshly at the time 'no Blacks, no Irish, no Dogs'), as I'm white so I do blend in.

If my ancestors hadn't fled their homelands then I wouldn't be sat here typing this.

And can the Tories (or any party) not see that environmental disaster is going to be the biggest driver of migration in years to come. Fire, floods, drought, food insecurity is going to cause the 'hurricane' as Braverman puts it. Never mind though, here comes Rishsi in his helicopter. Not a care in the world.

Louise Haigh is busy checking on twitter, a few of her tweets

https://x.com/LouHaigh/status/1709937815256248787?s=20

Yesterday the government pledged to deliver... "A259 from Bognor Regis to Southampton"

Today @MarkJHarper tweets graphic showing they actually meant Littlehampton...45 miles away.

It continues...

The entire page where the government pledge to 'revolutionise mass transit in Bristol' has now been deleted.

This is an absolute farce.

They're extending the Manchester Metrolink to Manchester Airport, even though the trams have been going there for years already.

The one about Nottingham is hilarious.
It looks to me like they've just gone through a list of old proposals rejected to fund HS2 and revived them, rather than put any thought into it.

Wow! I don't even know what to say.

Apart from stand up and fight, of course.

Zonder · 05/10/2023 18:00

And if we stand up and fight our country stands up and fights.
And if our country stands up and fights the world will stand up and fight.
And if the world stands up and fights the solar system will stand up and fight.
And if the solar system stands up and fights the universe will stand up and fight...

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/10/2023 18:03

This conference has made the one where the background fell down and Theresa May had a coughing fit look normal. I don’t think there’s a normal MP left.

I’m beginning to suspect that while decision to scrap HS2 wasn’t made yesterday morning, the Northen plan but was. With a bit shoved in to keep the SW happy.

L1ttledrummergirl · 05/10/2023 18:19

I reckon they've set up an amdram society and this is their auditions.

So much hamming it up.

Penny Mordaunt: "Stand up and fight!"

As you say T levels only began recently. It's completely ridiculous.

Yes first year was 2020.

Ds was on news with Braverman and Williamson hailing them as a great thing.

3 years on ....... 🙄

LittleBowSheep · 04/10/2023 20:14

Braverman's speech yesterday was sickening for many reasons but one of the things she said has really made my blood boil.

"The wind of change that carried my own parents across the globe in the 20th century was a mere gust compared to the hurricane that is coming".

Her parents immigrated to UK in the 1960s from Mauritius and Kenya and she was born in Harrow. So basically she is saying that it was 'okay' for her parents to come to UK and make their lives here and she herself has no doubt benefited from their decision to do so. But she thinks it's not okay for anyone else to come here to try and build a better life for themselves? The hypocrisy is astounding.

The same goes for other Tories whose ancestors have immigrated to UK but they don't want others doing the same; Priti Patel whose grandparents came from Uganda and Dominic Raab whose father came from Czechoslovakia. What is wrong with these people when they don't want others to have the same opportunities as they have had because of their ancestor's decisions. It's just hideous.

By the way, I say this as a child of parents who came to UK during the war fleeing Nazi occupation and were forever grateful for the safety it gave them and the potential prospects it provided for them, and then their children and grandchildren.

Nick was brilliant challenging Sunak on this in BBC R4 this morning.

He basically said why are they villainising people for having the same dreams his parents had. Also why does he say it's great that it's no big thing him being the first Asian PM but yet his HS says multicuralism isn't working.

All Sunak could say was "but illegal immigrants".

I was begging Nock to point out asylum seekers aren't illegal immigrants.

I was channeling my inner jwg!

Thanks for explanation. O couldn't figure than A259 one out.

You leave that for A27 and M27 to Southampton so I couldn't work out why an A road would be beneficial 🤣🤣

And it already goes a good way up to Littlehampton anyway!
