What's for Sunday Lunch/Dinner in your house?

Our oven needs a new thermostat which I'm hoping to get sorted this morning (have bought replacement) so am looking forward to a full roast as we've not had one for ages now.
I've not been shopping yet so haven't yet decided what to go for.

What's on your menu today?

Dh is making a fish pie today.

InFiveMins · 17/09/2023 08:20

Always have a roast on a Sunday and alternate between roast chicken and roast beef. Tonight it's roast chicken. With roast potatoes stuffing broccoli sprouts yorkshire puddings and lots of gravy. Hungry for it already!!

LexieLoos · 17/09/2023 08:25

Sausage dinner here, with roast potatoes and carrots, mash, broccoli and Yorkshire puds
Now I'm hankering after a dessert though, so may pop and get a Victoria sponge

I have been on a diet all week but always cook a Sunday roast and having dinner 'off' the diet so I can't wait!

We usually have

  • either chicken/gammon/lamb (one, not all three)
  • pigs in blankets
  • cauliflower cheese
  • roast potatoes
  • veg medley (usually carrots, peas, broccoli etc)
  • Yorkshire puddings
  • gravy

Honestly can't wait! We usually have pudding too but I won't be having pudding because of the diet

Crunchymum · 17/09/2023 08:34

We rarely have a roast (Easter Sunday, Christmas day if we're at home etc. Probably maximum 5 times a year)

Today I'm spending the day batch cooking so we'll end up with meatballs, bolognese, chilli, curry and a stew [I dedicate a day a month to batch cooking and then freeze so we have stuff in the freezer]. We'll have a vote and majority rules 😊

Just waiting for food shopping to turn up so I can get cracking. Remarkably they have everything I've ordered.

@Islandsadness We had Chinese last night but dh didn’t want to keep the leftovers as he’s “being good”. I think he’ll be regretting that by lunchtime 😂

ValkyrieAssassin · 17/09/2023 08:39

I am not doing roast today because I defrosted some pork chops that needed to be used.

So we are having pork chops with a mushroom cream sauce; baked potato and broccoli. Followed by the Aldi double raspberry magnum fake things which are even better than the real stuff IMO.

Currently lying by the pool in turkey so probably some form of kebab 😍

Natsku · 17/09/2023 08:40

No idea, all I have in the fridge is fish balls which is not a very Sunday dinner type of food. Need to go to the shop but don't know what I want to buy either. Feeling very uninspired at the moment.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/09/2023 08:40

Only two of us here, so rarely do a roast dinner.

I might do veggie sausages, frozen yorkies and vege. Or a macaroni cheese. Or lentil soup.

Hopingforno2in2023 · 17/09/2023 08:42

We have a Gousto box arriving and the recipe with the shortest use date is the chicken katsu salad so that :) Will definitely do more roasts once we are properly in autumn

Wait so what happened to them?! Do you have a lucky neighbour?

DontGiveMeThatOldCrap · 17/09/2023 08:44

Home-made lasagne, with salad. Lemon drizzle cake for afters

Ostryga · 17/09/2023 08:44

Dd has requested roast gammon so we’re going to go get all the bits when the shops open. Haven’t had a roast for months so looking forward to it!

NowWhattt · 17/09/2023 08:45

I am recovering from major surgery so my
husband is cooking at the moment.

He is making Roast Beef, roast potatoes, carrots, green beans, tenderstem broccoli and homemade Yorkshire pudding. With a crème brûlée for pudding.

He is a reallly good cook so I am looking forward to this 😋

QueeniePlumtree · 17/09/2023 08:49

No roast as such today here, but Steak and Guinness Pie with Garlic Hassleback potatoes, Roasted Honey
,Orange and Chilli Carrots, Long Stem Broccoli and Lemon and Black Pepper Green Beans!

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 17/09/2023 08:52

@Islandsadness Bin 😱Tbf though dd carrying her Chinese dropped the lot on the floor so me and dh shared ours with her. Then there wasn’t much left really but enough for a small single lunch.

Dh has a got a new meat grinder attachment for his kitchen aid he’s itching to try out so I think we’ll be going to local farm shop this morning to grab some kind of joint of beef to try. I might treat us to homemade yorkshires too.

MrsChuckBass · 17/09/2023 08:54

Roast chicken, roasties, cauli cheese, yorkies and broccoli with gravy! And a couple of glasses of wine. Sunday is my favourite day of the week

Torganer · 17/09/2023 08:56

Prawn and squid paella. Just finished making the stock from the prawn shells and depending on the weather will probably cook it on the bbq for a late lunch/early dinner so we can all eat together.

mondaytosunday · 17/09/2023 08:56

Burgers and home made chips and salad.

linelgreen · 17/09/2023 08:58

We are having a seafood platter with scallops, prawns and smoked salmon to start followed by Beef Wellington, creamed spinach, glazed baby carrots, herby new potatoes, potato dauphinoise and by special request from youngest pigs in blankets as the butcher had made lots fresh yesterday when he collected the beef for me!!! Then we have a choice of trifle or fresh strawberries to end with. It's a bit posher than our normal Sunday as we have guests so there will be 10 of us.

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 17/09/2023 08:58

Home made chunky vegetable soup with crusty bread for lunch

Meat free roast tor dinner

ShyCity · 17/09/2023 08:58

I’m making a huge lasagne so enough for dinner tomorrow, too. It’s still too hot for roasts in London!

SophiaElise · 17/09/2023 09:01

Tagliatelle with mushroom sauce and scallops. Then home-made creme caramel.

MysweetAudrina · 17/09/2023 09:03

I bought a shoulder of lamb which I will slow cook. Haven't decided on how to season it yet. Veering towards Moroccan with cous cous or might end up doing a stew.
