Right so it’s being described as Baroque because whoever is writing it is from the 18th century and can’t figure out how to upload the story

Not even the text where he apologises for raping someone?

He doesn’t. That text doesn’t mention rape, either directly or obliquely. He apologises for his behaviour upsetting the woman involved.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 16/09/2023 17:05

Soooo many posts saying 'Why all the hype?' We here (along with the Twitter crowd) created 95% of the hype. All C4 did was a little bit of promo for their channel, slightly hyperbolic of course but that is in the nature of promo.

You might as well say 'What are we trying to bury', rather than asking what the govt are trying to bury (with their suddenly acquired control over C4's scheduling).

In my case, I'm trying to bury the tedium of a wet weekend.

It says "No means no"

Intriguedbythis · 16/09/2023 17:07

The article is shocking
Even worse is something I read earlier
that Russel brand was filming in Istanbul with David Walliams . Russel hired a very young ( and obviously abused and impoverished ) local prostituite and ended up having to convince her to have sex, during the sex ( sounds rough) her phone got smashed by him. She was in floods of tears and he then wanted a refund to what he paid her as it was a ‘lukewarm shag’
one of the most unsettling and upsetting things I have ever read and led to his ( at the time) agency dumping him for his behaviour- repulsive !!!

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 16/09/2023 17:07

The country is in a financial mess, the health service is ruined, the streets are slowly descending into segregated chaos, food prices and inflation are through the roof, Britain is broken and an absolute catastrophic state and now the whole Nation is going to be caught up with Russell Brands accusations, leading stories and news coverage. Whether there’s any truth or not, should it really be a breaking news top story on my iPhone?

CwmYoy · 16/09/2023 17:08

Is anyone surprised by what they read?

Very old news, awful though it is. I do wonder what else is going on.

Agree with witch hunt. Anonymous women, none of whom went to the police?

Given the 16 year old girl's mother knew about the relationship from the start and even dropped her at his house, not sure why Brand would care more than the mother.

I've got no doubt Brand is an unpleasant narcissist and these stories are true or have a large element of truth, but a hyped TV show is not the arena for it. Nor is it a massive story.

How do we know these women and many more did not go to the police? We also know there is a huge issues within the police of tolerating sexual predators in their ranks and a systemic failure to investigate and prosecute rape.
you suggest that there is no reason for brand to have cared about a 16 year old child because it was the child’s mother who dropped her off to hi, to have sex. I find that heartbreaking and shocking anyone would have that attitude towards a girl of that age and that you would think it was ok and justified. Get a conscience.

FatCovidWorries · 16/09/2023 17:09

Unfortunately I fully believe there are much worse 'celebrities' out there now who are still being protected.

Intriguedbythis · 16/09/2023 17:10

This story of him humiliating and abusing a young ( how young?) impoverished prostituite and making her cry makes me feel ill of anger. I hope he rots in hell

He was fired by his talent agents at ICM after a series of disgraceful incidents on board a ship in Istanbul while making a film with David Walliams and Rob Brydon.
He picked up a young prostitute in Istanbul, made her cry when he broke her mobile phone against a wall while they were having sex, and then demanded a refund of his money. 'Frankly this girl was a sorry fair-weather excuse for a prostitute. Eventually she agreed to have sex but it was a kind of weary half hearted semi erect bored disappointing but of sex for which I'd paid a lot of money.' After he broke her phone he said: 'This is not looking good. I'm going to have to walk past reception in a minute, five paces behind a crying prostitute.'

ALISON BOSHOFF: Russell Brand and his women

ALISON BOSHOFF: An inveterate show-off who both friends and enemies conceded was 'self-obsessed', Russell Brand built his career on telling and re-telling stories of his sexual exploits.

No excuse but he has always admitted he's a scumbag and serial shagger hasn't he

Makes me wonder how C4 can fill 90 minutes minus the ads , bet the cost of those has gone up now !

Kat19899 · 16/09/2023 17:10

For those asking where the evidence is and why they didn’t go to the police, read The Times article. One lady went to a rape crisis centre where the evidence was frozen but she didn’t want to press charges. Her colleague heard her screams from outside the house. Many of the women worked in or around brand and were scared of losing their jobs, complaints made to production companies were ignored. At one point there was an agreement to remove all the women from a team to protect them rather than remove him from the show.
There are lots of accounts from other people - comedians, assistants and people who worked with him, not just the women he assaulted.

This is like asking why women in abuse relationships don’t just leave. Life is rarely that black and white

Trigger Warning for graphic detail of rape but here is a tweet I alluded to earlier - obviously I don't know if this is true or if details of this alleged incident will be included in the documentary but if it doesn't then the TV show MAY just be the tip of the iceberg and lots of others may come forward. https://twitter.com/DrJenIzaakson/status/1702817476474462521

For those saying that sexual predation shouldn't be a big news story, would you prefer it to be swept under the carpet?

I'd prefer it to go through the courts first and be proven true before people are publicly tarred tbh.

But this is old news, not news of the century at all, hence the suspicion that this is a distraction.

Imo.

Intriguedbythis · 16/09/2023 17:12

@Vikina sorry I don’t know how to reply quote but have reposted and linked it x

it makes me feel ill

dottyshihtzu · 16/09/2023 17:12

Part of the text:

'When a girl say NO it means no. Do I have to go and get myself tested? Last time U asked me condom or no condom. When I say condom that doesn't mean it optional'.

He doesn't dispute what she's saying in his reply.

NonMiDispiace · 16/09/2023 17:12

I’m much older than many on here, predatory men have got away with their sordid, abusive behaviour for ever. Like @OneFrenchEgg i am jaded, not shocked or even surprised that he’s the subject of this programme.
He’s just one of so many men who think that they can get away with it (and the police and the judiciary have confirmed that by the lack of action so many times over the years)
The fact that a number of other suggested individuals’ initials on MN threads supports just how commonly it is perceived to happen amongst so-called celebrities and men in power.
It’s sickening, repulsive and illegal yet thousands and thousands ‘follow’ these scummy individuals, pay to go to their gigs, watch their films and read the books.
Look at how fans behave towards some celebrities.

Wondering what happens next

Is there an arrest or is it that he’s ‘cancelled’ and media have taken him out

This 100%

squareyedannie · 16/09/2023 17:14

@YapYap2023
You're right.
It should have been done the right way. Unfortunately for some, the right way gets them nowhere.

MsLavender · 16/09/2023 17:02

I believe them. I don't care if people want to claim I'm being part of a witch hunt or that I'm being misled by the media who just wants to take him down. I believe them and I hope that they get justice.

I have also been raped. By my ex husband. I never went to the police because it would be a case of he said/she said. I don't speak about it for fear of being accused of lying, it's incredibly isolating. Does not mean that I wasn't raped and if someone came to me doing an investigation into ex husbands crimes and I found there were even more women then I would, after all this time, speak up.

I could have written this post. Makes me wonder how many of us are out there.

Yes. Britain is totally fucked and I wish the story was something that would heve brought down the government.

But if stories are true, Brand is a vile abuser, has been for years. I am pleased he us under scrutiny.

His current wife was only 19 when she met him.

squareyedannie · 16/09/2023 17:15

It's been overhyped by us lot on social media.

Well it’s certainly overshadowed the reports about Murdoch pulling Sunak’s strings.
