The biggest news story of the year is about someone who has already written books about all the stuff he has done. I will be surprised if Dispatched can say one thing I didn't already know.

When is the programme on?

Defacto24 · 16/09/2023 08:56

If true, Why now? He rarely appears on UK TV anymore and his podcast subject matter content as proven to be factually accurate. The fact is British news media as a history of deciding for us what they want us to know and keeping from us what we should know. When I was a student in the 1980s I had a debate about press freedom with an American exchange student, during which she said the trouble with you Brits, you don't know what is happening in your own country. When she revealed that since the 1950s American newspapers openly reported that Edward VIII was a nazi collaborator we were all shaking our heads in disbelief. We now know what she said was true and all UK news media collaborated to keep it from us, to protect the establishment. European and American news media revealed QE2 was dying of bone cancer in October 2022 whilst all British newspapers were telling us she was cancelling appearances due to gout. So why now, his podcasts are very informative, is the establishment out to get him.

@Darkdiamond @Chaniya go look at his YouTube channel, he’s very vocal about it Confused

Yeah I follow him and don't see what's batshit about valuing transparency and personal autonomy.

It’s actually too hard to have an educated discussion with you. Which is the whole problem here.

Not everyone is a lawyer. Maybe nip off to some lawyer groups to chat if you can't stand having to explain stuff to the hoi polloi.

The explaining is not the issue, it’s the lack of attempt to comprehend which is staggering.

We have lost Russell Brand

This once-sexy communist has become an American culture wars pundit.

I think you've hit something important thete @Summerslimtime. I'm feminist to my last bone but where do we draw the line? If a mother debases herself enough to proffer herself and her daughter for sex, do we still target the man for taking them up on it?

Do we take the stance that the women involved are victims of a disgusting patriarchal system that has taught them they can only advance themselves through prostitution?

Or do we take the view that the mother ( at least) knows exactly what she is doing and is using sex to advance herself regardless of the harm to her daughter and feminism in general?

Or is it possible that the mother ( at least) is a sex pest and should be censured for her advance that this young man didn't entertain but used as an anecdote?

I'm not offering my opinion but genuinely asking what people think.

I think there was a time when many women offered themselves to celebrities/singers/actors - groupies were rife, and still are, although on a lesser scale. That’s not to say that the famous are not in some part to blame. Their moral compass should direct them to walk away. But some of these people are elevated by the media on a pedestal, and when young, their boundaries become blurred, and they take what’s offered. Women have to have more self worth, and value themselves. You only have to go into Manchester pubs frequented by premiership footballers on a Saturday night to see the desperate lengths women go to to be noticed.

His narrative doesn't support the mainstream narrative so I'm in no way surprised that he's about the outed as whatever it is he'll be outed as.

These kinds of "scandals" are always either a massive misdirection or designed to discredit someone who isn't playing ball.

I'm not a RB follower but I can see his narrative and the following he has garnered could be a problem.

Long gone are the days when people who go against the mainstream media are just ridiculed (David Icke was reduced to a "crazy man who believes in lizard people") now they have to be taken down completely.

Im not a conspiracy theorist, I'm just someone who is increasingly concerned about the back door errosion of freedom of speech.

You sound exactly like a conspiracy theorist! And I say that as someone whose a fully paid up member of the Free Speech Union!

None of you actually know what the story is yet are commenting that it’s not interesting enough for you and if you believe it’s true or not. You people are not real. Get a fucking hobby the lot of you.

Couldn’t agree more. The level of conclusion reached from zero facts and wild speculation is astonishing.

and the ‘looks creepy’ crap? It would be immature in a playground. I assume these posters are green adults, who ought to know that assumptions about what people look like/present have led to some of the highest profile miscarriages of justice.

VeloVixen · 16/09/2023 08:59

Oh and don’t forget the American government caused 9/11 🙄

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-29756166

but I’m sure he’d just say it’s a main stream media witch hunt to silence him!

Russell Brand sparks new 9/11 conspiracy theory row

Russell Brand is "open-minded" about conspiracy theories that the US government was behind the 9/11 attacks.

CosyNightsOnTheSofa · 16/09/2023 09:00

I thought it might have been about someone that you'd be shocked about. He's always been a letchy creep 🤮 he's one of those people that makes my skin crawl. He was a sex addict, I wouldn't be remotely surprised if some of those women weren't quite so keen to jump into bed with him. I'm not accusing him of anything, I just wouldn't be shocked or surprised.

I'm disappointed if it's about him 😆.

MistyBay · 16/09/2023 09:00

He’s got more like 7m followers on YouTube and it’s growing all the time. So many people would like to take him down.

ingenvillvetavardukoptdintroja · 16/09/2023 09:00

Rape survivors can't get justice in court, rape has basically been legalised in this country. Its a crime where we can't shrug our shoulders and say 'wait til it's proven in court' because the likelihood of that is miniscule. Men are more likely to be sexually assaulted than falsely accused of it.

@Redebs ew

Legal but not morally ok

Newbutoldfather · 16/09/2023 09:01

@Livelovebehappy ,

If that is all it is about, I would be surprised.

Given the pre publicity and 90 minute length, I assume it is about something or someone more ‘important’ (or at least interesting to the general public) than celebrity groupies.

If it isn’t, Dispatches will score a massive own goal.

BeenThereDoneThat101 · 16/09/2023 09:02

What a load of bollocks these threads are.

So someone on social media starts a rumour that the biggest news story of the year is about to break, so big that dispatches are apparently doing a an as yet undefined programme about it, and people use it as an opportunity to make unfounded allegations at any and every celebrity they see fit to trash.

There is absolutely no way that channel4 are going to risk a defamation lawsuit by making a programme to make unfounded allegations against some celebrity or other. The tabloids- yep, they’re constantly being sued for defamation and losing and they don’t care, but not channel4.

If there are criminal allegations they need to be dealt with by the police, not not the gutter press and social media.

The flip side of this argument is that if there are serious allegations of abuse being covered up in the comedy industry and those allegations include him, then it should come out in the open. Otherwise it's another, 'the mainstream media have covered it up'nstory

oh come on! Those men are incredibly fit prime physical specimens, young and rich. Some of them are even quite handsome. Of course young women want to shag them!

I agree that the stats on rape crimes are appalling. But throwing unsubstantiated crap, speculation and opinion, on someone no one knows personally, into social media, is not the way to address that very real issue.

WhalePolo · 16/09/2023 09:04

@Crunchymum

Thats just utter hypocrisy though. If RB can have his bit of free speech and discredit scientists, why can’t Dispatches also exercise free speech about his conduct?
This is the issue about all those who question the narrative, anti mainstream, ma freeee speeeech types. They are actually “allowed” to spout their rubbish, but want to very much ‘silence’ any attacks against them! That’s not free speech then is it?!?!
