So it is Russell Brand

The biggest news story of the year is about someone who has already written books about all the stuff he has done. I will be surprised if Dispatched can say one thing I didn't already know.

He had a sex addiction and has told us all about his shagging. So now some women have come forward and said they were raped? Is that what it's saying?

I always liked him, really enjoyed his books, been to see him live etc. I was watching his YouTube channel until a few months back (love politics), but he's suddenly gone really right wing and its weird. That's not him at all. Is it for the money? The adulation from the US? I don't bother with him now.

Thats really bizarre, he has had some really good political takes in the past. Doesn't mean he cant be a criminal as well mind you, misogyny transcends so many boundaries.

Trixiefirecracker · 16/09/2023 07:59

I think it will be him and others. His wife’s Instagram has gone completely overnight and that’s very odd. There was talk of David Walliams too on Reddit, don’t know how true that is but wouldn’t surprise me.

David Walliams is a creepy fecker so if anything is said about him I wouldn't be surprised. I could never get past Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross phoning an old man telling him that they sn
shagged his granddaughter that Is the morals of Russell Brand a repulsive weasel who thinks abusing women and bothering old people is "Hilair" so he can stick his hippy guru nonsense up his arse !

wherethewaterisdarker · 16/09/2023 08:15

@Guiltridden12345 Oh a random on the internet passionately defending a violent, powerful man and ironically proclaiming the moral high ground - how edifying.

Ive no idea why you’d assume my comment wasn’t based in evidence or fact - I can only assume you don’t want it to be true for your own disturbing reasons. Anyway if you’re not convinced by the end of the weekend, you never will be, so rock on in sweet ignorance/collusion - whatever’s going on for you.

Abhannmor · 16/09/2023 08:15

Yes , he has gone all conspiracy. Same as that John Campbell creep. It is called ' audience capture ' I think.

Newbutoldfather · 16/09/2023 08:16

I have always thought this particular person has always had an easy ride on MN.

He is a total misogynist with a streetwise charlatan’s nose for being with the current zeitgeist, despite being academically thick and unable to put forward a coherent argument.

But because many women find him attractive, they forgive in him what they would condemn in others.

And, generally, sex addiction does not excuse non consensual sexual activity.

I look forward to the program.

Summerslimtime · 16/09/2023 08:16

As an aside, did anyone watch Never Mind The Buzzcocks a few weeks ago? I don't normally watch it these days. The singer from McFly was on telling a story about how a mum came backstage and gave a pic of her daughter to security who was a model, and how they both basically came for sex and how he liked the mum. Everyone was laughing and he told the story as if it was acceptable these days, and it's just NOT!!! I was actually expecting some backlash in the media but nothing was mentioned. Gross men exploiting their fans. I'm not saying it wasn't consensual BTW.

Stroopwaffels · 16/09/2023 08:17

Well it's clearly not the "biggest story of the year" so well done to Channel 4 for their publicity and getting everyone talking about it.

Russell Brand has always had somewhat of a reputation and i'm surprised people have kept quiet as long if there are accusations of improper/criminal behaviour. It's not as if he had "national treasure" status where people felt they couldn't speak out about him. I just saw his reply video clip on the news - he's very wide-eyed and staring and quite scary-looking.

MarathonBarbie · 16/09/2023 08:18

I’m t won’t just be Russel Brand, though seems very likely allegations about him are included. It’ll be about the cover up of allegations within the industry, Saville-type I would expect. That’d carry a 90minute show and ST expose, not purely allegations against celebs who are already known to be sleazy (to say the least).

I love Mumsnet, it’s incredibly helpful to get immediate relevant advice on parenting and family issues. But this thread shows how dangerous social media is. There isn’t a shred of evidence on here - it’s about rumour, speculation and downright prejudice. A serial shagger must be a rapist - what utter crap is that?

im going to ask Mumsnet to take this thread down. It’s libellous and full of the kind of misinformation that riddled social media and is interpreted by some people as news. It’s not. It’s nonsense that undermines real news reporting.

Abhannmor · 16/09/2023 08:18

Not sure if it is remotely relevant - but the Guardian website has crashed.

LuluBlakey1 · 16/09/2023 08:18

I was very struck by the woman who presents Sewing Bee saying a few weeks ago there are a number of current, high-profile, British male comedians who are very well-known for sexually abusive behaviour towards women but she wouldn't name them. She said something like 'They know who they are and they are shaking in their shoes. They know their time will come'. It was a very strange remark I thought.

fairyfluf · 16/09/2023 08:19

I'm not sure it is the biggest story of the year. Who said it was?

BarbaraofSeville · 16/09/2023 08:21

According to the Guardian he's denying it's him.

Good luck.

Considering the reason anyone is discussing this is because Brand himself released a video when he didn't have to.
He's the one that's put it into public domain.
He's the one that's told everyone that there's accusations against him.
He's the one that's trying to get ahead of the story and put his own spin on it first.

I’m a lawyer. I go on fact not wild speculation. I’ll wait until the outcome of a legal process before I accept things as fact. Perhaps you should consider doing the same.

Here’s me thinking ‘biggest news story of the year’ etc was going to be something like Putin is dead, Putin is going to press the button, aliens have landed etc……

Newbutoldfather · 16/09/2023 08:24

@Chaniya,

A coordinated attack by whom?

He just isn’t nearly important or influential enough. I can’t think of the last time I have seen him on mainstream media….

Hardly wild speculation, he released a public video to his huge amount of subscribers...

🙄

lavenderlou · 16/09/2023 08:24

Suggestions online that it's RB and the wider UK comedian industry - allegations of rape and sexual assault - so as PP suggests, possibly about how the industry works together to protect each other. It would seem likely that if it's the Times and Dispatches they probably have some credible evidence.

Guiltridden12345 · 16/09/2023 08:24

fairyfluf · 16/09/2023 08:20

Imagine it’s your dad, your brother, your grandad, your son. Would you welcome this kind of wild speculation about your closest male relatives?

If this is true then he should be prosecuted by the courts not the media. And if dispatches have evidence of this then they should have handed it over to the police not turned it into a tv show which could risk a successful trial.

This , I totally agree . If there is proof of rape ( which is what is being implicated) then that is for the courts to decide . Remember what happened with the Johnny Depp case , all lies . Now I am not saying that’s the case here , but that is not for the media to decide .
