The biggest news story of the year is about someone who has already written books about all the stuff he has done. I will be surprised if Dispatched can say one thing I didn't already know.

But ‘what’ is him? I have read the report of his denial but no idea what it relates to?

the habit of pursuing salacious stories has surely got to stop. Our press, and clearly our nation’s thirst for the private lives of celebrities, has got way out of control. It must be terrifying to be in any way famous as you’d be waiting for the house of cards to come tumbling down.

Rape, I would assume.

Moonshiny · 16/09/2023 08:00

There's been rumours about RB and his very keen legal team for YEARS so this hasn't come as a suprise at all. Let's be honest... any person who publically rings up a grandfather to brag about sexual exploits with his granddaughter isn't going to have the cleanest closest.

It's actually been quite a shame to see him descend into a Left Wing Jordan Peterson character - 90% flowery verbal nonsense to impress their audience and trick you into thinking they're on another level intellectually and 10% good ideas which get you hooked into thinking that perhaps they just might be right...

Whinge · 16/09/2023 08:01

There was talk of David Walliams too on Reddit, don’t know how true that is but wouldn’t surprise me.

DW was the first person I thought of when the rumours started. He makes my skin crawl.

I would be very surprised if it was just RB, 90 minutes is a long time to focus on just one person.

willWillSmithsmith · 16/09/2023 08:02

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 16/09/2023 07:40

Allegedly about 5 comedians. I see a lot of people saying they already know everything about RB but its been alleged for years he is a rapist and sex abuser, he hasn't ever admitted to that.

Whether he is or not I’ve always found him sleazy and repugnant. He couldn’t even go on GBBO without sexualising the cake! I find him stomach churning.

Lwrenagain · 16/09/2023 08:02

I think the media speculation will be horrible for not just RB but his alleged victims. It'll just be a deeply unpleasant shit show.

I don't like RB particularly and can't really give you a reason I don't, I just don't. But he won't go down without a fight and I don't think his stans will believe for a minute he's done anything without consent.

I don't know what the accusations will be but this will be a horrible time for anyone involved. Whilst I think he's a twat, it would be unrealistic to blindly say, "he did it" because for years he's really pissed off the mainstream media, so it could be a set up which makes it worse for those who are speaking out against him if he has done awful things.

Horrible situation this is, absolutely awful.

If RB has done those things, I hope his victims get justice. If he hasn't, I hope this is quashed quickly and his innocence proven.

Lollywillowes · 16/09/2023 08:04

Crunchymum · 16/09/2023 07:53

His narrative doesn't support the mainstream narrative so I'm in no way surprised that he's about the outed as whatever it is he'll be outed as.

These kinds of "scandals" are always either a massive misdirection or designed to discredit someone who isn't playing ball.

I'm not a RB follower but I can see his narrative and the following he has garnered could be a problem.

Long gone are the days when people who go against the mainstream media are just ridiculed (David Icke was reduced to a "crazy man who believes in lizard people") now they have to be taken down completely.

Im not a conspiracy theorist, I'm just someone who is increasingly concerned about the back door errosion of freedom of speech.

I agree. Well said

LuluBlakey1 · 16/09/2023 08:04

90 minutes and all this fuss about Russell Brand- he's a has-been isn't he? Does he still work? There's all kinds going on in the country and world and this is about an idiot, D list 'celeb'. Surely there's more to all this fuss than Russell Brand. They could just have told the police- not wasted viewers time.

Guiltridden12345 · 16/09/2023 08:04

wherethewaterisdarker · 16/09/2023 07:53

It’s been an open secret for years that RB is a notorious rapist - hope he goes to prison for a long timd (I mean, he prob won’t cos rape is essentially legal in the UK, but we can hope).

This sort of evidence-absent comment is both slanderous and at the heart of everything that’s wrong with the media. Ffs, you have absolutely no idea, why on earth would you even try to proffer a firm view? Unless you can put forward some solid, tangible evidence then don’t throw this kind of nonsense out there. Rather than help the cause of the victims of rape, if muddies waters for everyone and has the potential to devastate completely innocent lives. Just think will you.

StTropezTan · 16/09/2023 08:05

Not a fan of RB, but just because he’s come out and made a strenuous denial doesn’t make him guilty. Remember the fevered speculation about several individuals who were forced to do the same when the Huw Edwards story was about to break?

WeWereInParis · 16/09/2023 08:06

But ‘what’ is him? I have read the report of his denial but no idea what it relates to?

@Guiltridden12345 in his denial he basically says "yes I've always been open that I was very promiscuous, but it was absolutely always consensual and I refute these very serious criminal accusations". So it must be rape that he's talking about.

Selfesteem23 · 16/09/2023 08:06

I’ve heard David Williams and Matt Lucas too. It’s not just Brand. A few known people on Twitter/x have hinted that the allegations regarding Brand have been a long time coming and the you tube following is very coincidental…. Eg he has built up this following and theories so he can use ‘the mainstream are out to get me defence’ when the allegations finally broke…like Tate… great company there!

He has been batting off accusations with his legal team for a while. So he was fully aware.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/09/2023 08:06

AgnesX · 16/09/2023 07:54

Is that it 🙄

Exactly. Unfortunately predatory men are so rife in the entertainment industry that almost nothing would illicit much of a reaction any more than an unsurprised continued disgusted 'oh look another one'.

It would be more of a 'biggest story of the year' if they produced a list of 20 men who've been in the public eye over the last few decades and there was a cast iron guarantee that not one of them had ever sexually attacked anyone.

BethDuttonsTwin · 16/09/2023 08:07

I'm just not convinced that public analysis and shaming via TV & SM before there's been any kind of a criminal investigation is the way to go tbh. For anyone.

LaaDeeDa321 · 16/09/2023 08:09

All this talk of ‘is this it’ and ‘I won’t waste my time watching’ is turning my stomach. These are men in positions of power within the media who are likely to be accused of very serious offences against women. How much ‘entertainment’ do you want you absolute fucking weirdos?

WhippitGood · 16/09/2023 08:09

@Crunchymum totally agree.

Yea surely if the media have evidence they would go through the police first?

Oblomov23 · 16/09/2023 08:10

Is this it? Is this all it is? Total hype, good PR I guess.

Maybe not. But when women aren't believed, and get no support in speaking out against men with profile or power, then it's what's left.
It's how the whole #metoo thing started... media giving some women a voice.
Also, assuming it's not just allegations against one person and instead is about more systemic issues in the industry, then it IS news.

Royalsrumbled · 16/09/2023 08:10

Also Noel fielding with questions raised about his relationship with pixie geldof although I believe she was 16 and he was 33 at the time. 🫤

lapsedbookworm · 16/09/2023 07:47

Yes, I am guessing it's about multiple allegations, and the failure of the industry to protect people from their behaviour. I.e. the focus will be on the industry turning a blind eye to it/knowingly allowing it

This is what I am expecting. There is one person in particular who is so influential that his many victims won’t take steps against him for fear of losing their careers, but everyone knows about it, rather akin to Harvey Weinstein. I am hoping for their sake that this is about him and the people and structures which have protected him so far.

The Times hasn't published yet and you're making unsubstantiated claims about a person in the public eye; are you familiar with libel and defamation laws?

I'd ask MN to delete your post.

Also agree.
Has the person concerned been arrested? Charged? Had a trial? Are the police or CPS involved at all?
