The biggest news story of the year is about someone who has already written books about all the stuff he has done. I will be surprised if Dispatched can say one thing I didn't already know.

@Superfood I will watch the programme and try to understand how this interview was not investigated. You assume I am trying to discredit, but I am trying to understand. No, a story in the paper with anonymous interviews is not sufficient for me as the whole story. Like a lot of people I want to know the whole truth and how it was arrived at.

For someone who is trying to understand and not discredit, u didn't do very well when asking about the underwear , pretty terrible question to ask. That doesn't show trying to understand that shows trying to discredit! so u shouldn't be surprised when people think u r trying to discredit!

This is ridiculously naive. Don’t be daft.

Why don't we all wait til 9pm and argue then?

user9630721458 · 16/09/2023 20:37

@Rainbowsandbutterflies1990 No, it's trying to understand the process and conclusions.

All the people saying if there was evidence the police would of dealt with it answer me this.. The majority of rapes are committed by boyfriends/husbands/sexual partners known to the victim so it's very easy for men to deny that a rape took place.. DNA evidence and bruises are explained away with some bullshit story about consensual rough sex. It then becomes her word against his and too top it all off there's a high chance that the police force dealing with the case is being run by a misogynist man! The victims chance of seeing a court room is practically zero. One in five women will experience something similar and all the while predators will continue their abuse. So what is it that these women could of done, shut up and accept that is how it is, Is this really what we want for our daughters??
It's really not fair to say that unless there's evidence a rape didn't happen, that's not how our justice system works. For the men falsely accused it must be awful but it's rare.. women being sexually assaulted whilst there perpetrators walk the streets.. all day everyday day.

Because its not just a documentary that is being discussed, its also a newspaper article outlining it also which has already been released .

JuliusWho · 16/09/2023 20:38

If people simply wanted to wait until seeing the program before forming their view, they wouldn’t be actively trying to discredit, dismiss or excuse the accusations and evidence beforehand.

Rape apologists, pure and simple.

OldPear · 16/09/2023 20:40

It went out live on air on his radio show, and then on the podcast. It’s clearly joking (if you listen), but obvs in bad taste then, and sounds appalling based on what we know now re JS.

Trying so hard that you don't even recognise the name of the lead journalist and haven't read the long article that explains everything they've been doing for the past three years

We see you.

Somehow you haven’t seen the documentary either but already formed an opinion just like the “rape apologists” (?)

Just been reading about him after all the hype. Agree with others, he looks so dirty and greasy, like he stinks. Which isn’t a crime I guess. Btw, is there any comedian that hasn’t got ADHD?

Edited

When he was presenting Big Brother's Little Brother he stepped over an audience member on tiered seating from behind her, spreading his legs around her, his crotch (perhaps more accurately his perineum) rubbed over the woman's head. There was much discussion of the appropriatness of this move on the Digital Spy forum - and the woman eventually identified herself and said it was very uncomfortable for her - and he strongly smelt of shit.

I find the accusations credible. Especially now that he's multi-millionaire guru.
It's what they do. The fact that he - and others, even on here - are dismissing it as just a two-pronged mainstream media attack is risible conspiracy nonsense (which recently has become his main grift). Doing that minimises the actual allegations and ignores the (alleged) actual suffering of his actual women victims.

LegoRobot · 16/09/2023 20:50

I really believed he was a bringer of change and that his honest battles in his own life revealed a character that was sweet and kind at heart.

What on Earth could have ever made you think that? He's always been creepy as hell. An opinionated, self-righteous, egotistical man who thinks he is much more intelligent that he is and engages in bullying and obnoxious behaviour. There's been plenty of evidence of that in the public domain for a very long time.

@CynicalUsee

I apologise if my refusal to believe everything the TV tells me, offends you.

So you believe everything youtube tells you instead.
Do you know that there's no such word as gullible in any English dictionary?

anotherside · 16/09/2023 20:20

@Noicant

Well, if that’s all there, especially those text messages, then Brand will be going to jail, no two ways about it. But forgive me if I am only fully convinced when this claimed evidence is presented and accepted before a judge and jury - as opposed to ”this stuff has been seen exactly as reported by the Murdoch press”

It is notoriously difficult to get a criminal conviction for rape. The prosecution must prove beyond reasonable doubt that there has not been consent which, in cases where there has been personal relationship between the parties, must be extremely difficult. The private nature of the crime (usually- some are convicting themselves through mobile phone footage) means it comes down to a he said-she said situation. As a jury member you might be pretty sure the accused is guilty but still have a lingering reasonable doubt.

The standard of proof in civil cases is lower. The Despatches/Sunday Times teams would need to prove their case on the balance of probabilities in order to succeed if sued by Brand. They must be very confident they can do this. It appears that there are a lot of women, with no reason to lie, who are all are saying similar things- corroborated by their actions/conversations at the time. Anyway, we will soon see what evidence C4 has compiled.

fuckssaaaaake · 16/09/2023 20:51

@Rainbowsandbutterflies1990 ok sorry, I wasn't trying to be a dick, honestly. I was trying to lighten the mood. (Ive had a vodka but see that that was a ridiculous thing to write now)

I'm tipsy so can't work out if you're calling me a rape apologist but I definitely am not and I'm sorry if that's how my message came across

JuliusWho · 16/09/2023 20:53

I don’t feel the need to see the documentary before coming to the conclusion that someone who sent a text message, apologizing for committing a rape, is almost certainly a rapist.

In my experience, not a lot of non-rapists apologize for raping.

And I’m not the one preaching that we must wait and see the documentary before forming an opinion, most of the people who are doing that are, at the same time, downplaying the allegations.

Like I said, I'm sorry I wrote that, I am not an apologist and my previous comments (further up or on the other thread show that) honestly I was just thinking it's getting very heated and we can all argue properly with the facts that come at 9 but I'm on your side I really am
