The biggest news story of the year is about someone who has already written books about all the stuff he has done. I will be surprised if Dispatched can say one thing I didn't already know.

Was RB the person Katherine Ryan called out?

Yes , I think it was.

Not the tv, more scientists from around the world...

“scientists”

But, we’re not allowed to listen to the many scientists who did not agree with the narrative?

Mumof118 · 16/09/2023 19:17

I am.

What does “babes” mean?

it's an acronym meaning 'bewildered adult believing eccentric stories'

  • weight of evidence still supports the vaccines
  • the poster expressed disbelief over covid, not just the vaccines

@CynicalUsee

I apologise if my refusal to believe everything the TV tells me, offends you.

How dare you not believe everything the Telly tells you?

🤣

I think you've hit something important thete @Summerslimtime. I'm feminist to my last bone but where do we draw the line? If a mother debases herself enough to proffer herself and her daughter for sex, do we still target the man for taking them up on it?

Do we take the stance that the women involved are victims of a disgusting patriarchal system that has taught them they can only advance themselves through prostitution?

Or do we take the view that the mother ( at least) knows exactly what she is doing and is using sex to advance herself regardless of the harm to her daughter and feminism in general?

Or is it possible that the mother ( at least) is a sex pest and should be censured for her advance that this young man didn't entertain but used as an anecdote?

I'm not offering my opinion but genuinely asking what people think.

I agree that in the example given there are many different possible takes, not all of which involve the woman being a victim by default.

What makes them "scientists" as opposed to scientists?

And why do you only imply those who disbelieve covid are credible?

What is is your objective and critical process for determining the credibility of scientists / "scientists" ?

@IClaudine

The X poster is irrelevant. I don’t know who they are. I simply typed in ‘Nancy Pelosi Smear’ and that’s the video that popped up. It’s still Nancy though.

And you would be a fool not to think that goes on in this country as well as the US. It’s just a way to manipulate and propagandise.

And yet, you've been stitched up like a kipper by master-manipulator Brand and his band of merry 'truth-seekers'. You lot would be funny if you weren't so bloody dangerous.

CynicalUsee · 16/09/2023 19:22

That part doesn't offend me. Your inability to believe this man is responsible for multiple rapes offends me

If he’s investigated and this is proven fairly and squarely, then I’ll believe it.

My partner was once accused of something heinous as a teacher. After four nightmare months, investigated by the police, he was found innocent and the accuser retracted their (ridiculous) accusation.

I never ever just blindly believe anything. I wait and see and react accordingly.

beatrix1234 · 16/09/2023 19:26

It is not the telly telling us, it is the victims. Same as when Saville's crimes were first aired on a TV exposé. That came first, formal investigation followed.

anotherside · 16/09/2023 19:30

@beatrix1234

Thank you. I don’t like him either, like you I dislike “trial by media in order to fill pages” more than RB. There were many police reports against Saville before the scandal erupted , many against Weinstein (fact is there was a whole police investigation going on), same with Epstein, what solid evidence is there against RB? I’m not saying there’s any (I don’t have access to police files),once I see that I’ll be able to form an opinion. In the meanwhile I refuse to let Murdoch and their croonies form my own opinion

Agree. The Murdoch press has a proud history of making up appalling lies when it suits them. Let the police and the law decide.

Absolute nonsense @Chaniya

Scientists do not have mixed options on the vaccines - anyone credible (i.e. relevant expertise and views back up by robust evidence) - agrees it was safer to be vaccinated than unvaccinated and that offering vaccines to the general population was beneficial.

There are a minority who have jumped on the anti-vaccine bandwagon for profit. Their views are not backed by any real evidence. Malone was not the "inventor" of the vaccines - this is a claim he's made up. Endless evidence (and threads on MN) about this...

Although this is a thread about RB. Not covid.
Unfortutately, when Brand pivoted to pushing conspiracy theories and nonsense in order to gain a cult follower, these are all the kinds of views that will be coming up from the people who are defending him.

Some would say it was a very shrewd move - just like Andrew Tate he can claim that the powers are now out to get him, and it's all a big cover up because he's got too close to the truth.

I loathe acronyms. Work uses far too many. People think acronyms are so clever for some reason.

IClaudine · 16/09/2023 19:31

Don't let the thread be derailed by anti-vaxxers.

beatrix1234 · 16/09/2023 18:56

@StBrides No. Investigative reporting through through reputable news mediums, carried out by credible and skilled journalists isn't a smear campaign.
Thanks

“Reputable news mediums” like the Murdoch newspapers? 🤣😂

Edited

Are you saying that Rosamund Urwin, the excellent journalist who led this investigation, is a liar?

I'm sorry you're partner went through that.

The two things are not comparable, however.

There is due process for investigating claims made against teachers, claims against a famous person are treated very differently. Also, these are not simply claims that people have collected and are airing on TV. Journalism in the UK is held to very high legal standards and there is no way this programme would be made, these articles written without legal rigorous testing to ensure the accusations are credible and would stand up in court.

No, it doesn't guarantee 100% that he is guilty. It isn't a court of law, but the legal standards for truth and credibility here are incredibly high.

Brand is not going to be cleared of this.

I agree 100% I think it was definitely intentional , he knew what he did so it's the perfect way to deny any accountability, just claim the deep state is out to get u and try and silence u.

Mumof118 · 16/09/2023 19:35

IClaudine · 16/09/2023 19:31

Don't let the thread be derailed by anti-vaxxers.

I have had my children vaccinated with everything but the Covid vaccine.

Anyway, why is it such a problem to some people that I demand an investigation and charges brought before blindly believing one side? I’ve always thought that was a logical mind set.

Give me evidence and I’ll believe. Don’t expect me to grab my pitch fork though, when the truth is still uncertain.

Views are informed by synthesis of all available evidence. No we are not a "hive mind" but scientists will generally converge when you have something as well studied as "were the SARS-COV-2 vaccines beneficial?"

As I said - anyone credible (i.e. relevant expertise and views backed up by robust evidence) - agrees it was safer to be vaccinated than unvaccinated and that offering vaccines to the general population was beneficial.

This isn't an opinion - if you are still claiming the opposite then you are ignoring all the evidence in front of you.

It's relevant because all the high profile anti-vaccine activists (who make a career out of this) are jumping to defend Brand, he gained an army by pushing fake claims, and now these views are popping up on MN too.
