So it is Russell Brand

The biggest news story of the year is about someone who has already written books about all the stuff he has done. I will be surprised if Dispatched can say one thing I didn't already know.

Bonkers that a forum like reddit is roundly condemning Brand and supporting the victims, whilst on MN there seem to be a depressing number of posters doing the opposite - much more in line with somewhere like X/twitter where people like Andrew Tate are protected.

Agreed. WTF is wrong with Mumsnet? I was just reading Tattle Life and Reddit FFS and no one is defending him there.

StBrides · 16/09/2023 19:04

I respect your right to your own opinion but I with that post, I no longer believe they are credible

Hello. We were all coerced into taking a medical intervention that was completely unnecessary and didn’t really work. To ‘protect us’ against an illness with an overwhelming survival rate. We were made to stay home for months. Not see our families. Not go to our loved ones funerals etc…all for a ‘greater good’ that I still haven’t worked out. Unless that greater good was making a small group of people very rich and handing over more control than ever to our governments.

Don’t tell me journalists never thought to ask questions. They were told not to ask questions and paid not to ask questions. They are neither reputable nor credible and I have believed nothing I read in the paper or see on the news since.

Even Nancy agrees with me.

And now, we deem it fair that these journalists seek out women to interview regarding a chosen target and then publish allegations without any investigation first?
Hmm.

Sorry, but I prefer investigations to happen in the proper manner and people to be punished (or not) accordingly.

Anyone care to speculate what's happening here?

Edited

Reddit is largely left wing, male dominated and hugely tribal. They will condemn Brand not because they care about women, it's because they hate him for his recent alignment with right wing people and topics.

They will ban anyone instantly who tries to defend him or deviate from their POV and delete those comments. Which is why it always looks like a hive mind.

The reason I know they don't care about the women is because Reddit has always hosted many rape/ porn subs and other harmful subs. The men there don't care about that and never have done especially the men that run the site. If Brand was one of their favoured men (for his politics) you'd be seeing a whole different narrative.

At least Mumsnet doesn't ban alternative views because it don't think it should, even the views I don't like.

I'm not saying any of this in defence of Brand - I've made it clear up thread what I think of him. Just highlighting that much of Reddit is full of toxic misogyny which they will ignore when it suits them.

Furryrug · 16/09/2023 19:14

He admits to taking drugs in the past and being a sex addict , he probably doesn't remember what he has done.

Iheartwhitetshirts · 16/09/2023 19:14

This thread is appalling. Full of misogynistic bullshit. “I’ll believe it when it goes through legal channels”. Jimmy Saville wasn’t charged with a crime - do you believe he was a nice guy too?

Sometimes it needs the media to shine a light on something to help victims come forward and to ensure those in high places take notice.

Some on this thread need to have take a long hard look at themselves.

These are the same journalists that brought us Covid and Covid vaccines. They work for whoever is paying. I don’t think there is such a thing as a credible journalist these days.

u ok, babes?

Mumof118 · 16/09/2023 19:15

I tend to think about things from the perspective that we are innocent until proven guilty. Just in case you know.

I am more than happy for guilty people to pay for what they have done.

The fact that you are linking to a right winger in the US says it all. What has any of that got to do with this issue?

Biochemist · 16/09/2023 19:16

We were all coerced into taking a medical intervention that was completely unnecessary and didn’t really work.

On twitter/X, all the big names in the anti-vaccine circuit are jumping to defend Brand, and now posts like that are popping up here.

The evidence that vaccination of the general population was beneficial is overwhelming - if you are choosing to believe people like Russel Brand over the very real evidence that exists, it's crazy.

And the fact that someone would jump from this idea, to condoning the sexual assualts he's committed, is deeply depressing.

Ch4 released a trailer earlier and it seems wholly focused on Brand.

I wouldn't be surprised if it leads to revelations about others though

Merandder · 16/09/2023 19:19

Was RB the person Katherine Ryan called out?

Mumof118 · 16/09/2023 19:19

@CynicalUsee

I apologise if my refusal to believe everything the TV tells me, offends you.

IClaudine · 16/09/2023 19:20

Funny how some of the Brand defenders seem to be fairly new to MN...

bombastix · 16/09/2023 19:20

Brand sounds compulsive. And quite dangerous if he had fixated on you.

That part doesn't offend me. Your inability to believe this man is responsible for multiple rapes offends me

Mumof118 · 16/09/2023 19:22

@IClaudine

The X poster is irrelevant. I don’t know who they are. I simply typed in ‘Nancy Pelosi Smear’ and that’s the video that popped up. It’s still Nancy though.

And you would be a fool not to think that goes on in this country as well as the US. It’s just a way to manipulate and propagandise.

Maybe the Sunday Times has the scoop about Brand, but the programme will mention others?

How did others come to be mentioned?
