The biggest news story of the year is about someone who has already written books about all the stuff he has done. I will be surprised if Dispatched can say one thing I didn't already know.

I have had my children vaccinated with everything but the Covid vaccine.

Anyway, why is it such a problem to some people that I demand an investigation and charges brought before blindly believing one side? I’ve always thought that was a logical mind set.

Give me evidence and I’ll believe. Don’t expect me to grab my pitch fork though, when the truth is still uncertain.

There will be evidence in the documentary

Mumof118 · 16/09/2023 19:39

StBrides · 16/09/2023 19:33

I'm sorry you're partner went through that.

The two things are not comparable, however.

There is due process for investigating claims made against teachers, claims against a famous person are treated very differently. Also, these are not simply claims that people have collected and are airing on TV. Journalism in the UK is held to very high legal standards and there is no way this programme would be made, these articles written without legal rigorous testing to ensure the accusations are credible and would stand up in court.

No, it doesn't guarantee 100% that he is guilty. It isn't a court of law, but the legal standards for truth and credibility here are incredibly high.

Brand is not going to be cleared of this.

Thank you. I appreciate that. It was a terrible time for us.

If RB is charged with these horrendous crimes, I will expect him to feel the full weight of the law.

But in the meantime I must stick with my ‘innocent until proven guilty’ point of view.

Presumably there's a middle ground between defending Russell Brand and his actions, and "grabbing a pitchfork"?

@beatrix1234

Thank you. I don’t like him either, like you I dislike “trial by media in order to fill pages” more than RB. There were many police reports against Saville before the scandal erupted , many against Weinstein (fact is there was a whole police investigation going on), same with Epstein, what solid evidence is there against RB? I’m not saying there’s any (I don’t have access to police files),once I see that I’ll be able to form an opinion. In the meanwhile I refuse to let Murdoch and their croonies form my own opinion

Agree. The Murdoch press has a proud history of making up appalling lies when it suits them. Let the police and the law decide.

Are you saying that Rosamund Urwin is a liar?

Why has Elon Musk stuck his creepy oar in? This was his reply to Russell's aforementioned video, posted on Twitter.

So it is Russell Brand
Mumof118 · 16/09/2023 19:41

@blebb

Well of course. Im not blindly defending him either. I’m waiting to see what happens. Then I will form my opinion.

But because my trust in journalism has been so diminished, I’d rather wait to see him charged and a case heard in the courts.

I do understand why you're sticking to your viewpoint (and apologies for my typo!). Myself, I strongly believe investigative journalism plays an absolutely crucial role in ensuring justice in our society.

I hope you've all recovered as much as possible from the experience.

Bonkers that a forum like reddit is roundly condemning Brand and supporting the victims, whilst on MN there seem to be a depressing number of posters doing the opposite - much more in line with somewhere like X/twitter where people like Andrew Tate are protected.

Agreed. WTF is wrong with Mumsnet? I was just reading Tattle Life and Reddit FFS and no one is defending him there.

I think there has been a deliberate attempt to take over the discussions on here.

Agree that tatt1e and redd1t are much more rational.

Mumsnet seems to be full of rape apologists and conspiracy theorists suddenly.

ScottishIceCream · 16/09/2023 19:45

Sexual predator slebs have lawyers who prevent others speaking up about them by using threats of legal action.

If you think you're on your own, or think no one else will speak out, or have had threats made against you about what might happen if you do speak out, then it's only when others step in that you might feel less vulnerable.

According to Vicky Smith, Sunday Times journalists became aware of the allegations in 2019, to which I ask, had they been asleep before then?

So it is Russell Brand
godmum56 · 16/09/2023 19:45

KateyCuckoo · 16/09/2023 07:28

Not surprised

me either. He has spent his whole public life showing people what he is like.

user9630721458 · 16/09/2023 19:45

I agree it will be helpful if the programme shows evidence. The accounts are distressing and I certainly recognise the types of behaviour shown by abusive men. It's not uncommon. But I would like to know how they obtained a transcript of a phone conversation between Savile and Brand. Also, I understand one woman did go to the police so if there was a physical examination perhaps that would give more detail. Presumably the doctor would have kept records too.

beatrix1234 · 16/09/2023 19:46

IClaudine · 16/09/2023 19:29

It is not the telly telling us, it is the victims. Same as when Saville's crimes were first aired on a TV exposé. That came first, formal investigation followed.

Edited

There had been hundreds of sexual abuse allegations and police reports during Savile’s lifetime, but they were dismissed, ignored or “not investigated”. Savile even took legal action against many of his victims . It was all silenced and swept under the rug because he had many people in “top places” protecting him. this is so not RB case, I mean … the guy is/was a jerk but … is there a history of police reports against him? He might have been a popular comedian a long time ago but all he had in the last 10 years was his own YouTube channel, he’s not an inch powerful as Savile was.

MeinKraft · 16/09/2023 19:47

'How did others come to be mentioned?'

It was on Popbitch I think where it said 5 comedians would be named. There are 5 women discussing their experiences with Brand so possibly an error?

ScottishIceCream · 16/09/2023 19:48

More from Vicky Smith about the investigation.

I'm not actually criticising you, but, God, no wonder it's so awful for women to pursue justice. The last two sentences of your post are just awful

It'll be a bit shit if the entire story is 'this woman said this but didn't want to be identified' that is of course their right, I'd do the same, but why the need for the TV show? I guess we will see.

I think conspiracy theorists have been here for a while and no surprise they're trying to defend RB given they are probably sucked in by his grifting YouTube videos.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 16/09/2023 19:50

@Mumof118 did you read the times article? I totally understand why you would want this to be investigated by law enforcement, and I hope that happens, The Times have seen evidence that I don't think they would lie about. doctors reports, texts etc Its is not pleasant reading but it its damning and detailed.

Please can people recognise the difference between a TV 'show' and a journalistic documentary

user9630721458 · 16/09/2023 19:50

@StBrides I'm sorry, not meaning to offend. It just seems that would help any case to be brought.

anotherside · 16/09/2023 19:51

Are you saying that Rosamund Urwin is a liar?

No idea. That’s usually for the police and justice system to decide, not the Murdoch press and its employees.

MeinKraft · 16/09/2023 19:51

Obviously I don't want to see Brand harassing anyone or worse, but I'm expecting things like recordings of discussions between him and other comedians that show their attitude towards women.

anotherside · 16/09/2023 19:51

Edit: No idea. That’s usually for the police and justice system to decide, not the Murdoch press and its employees … or random people commenting on the internet.
