The biggest news story of the year is about someone who has already written books about all the stuff he has done. I will be surprised if Dispatched can say one thing I didn't already know.

The 16-yr-old hasn't accused him of rape. She's accused him of sexual and emotional abuse.
I think it's important we use the terms she has obviously agreed with The Times.

Did you read the article? She’s accused him of forcing his penis into her mouth without her consent. That is rape.

Rape is when a person penetrates another person’s vagina, anus or mouth with their penis without that person’s consent.

don't be ridiculous.

ICanBuyMyOwnBooks · 16/09/2023 17:04

The article is really upsetting but I think partly why it's so upsetting is because of how widespread some of those actions are. The older men who prey on 16-yr-olds. The men who push and cross boundaries in the workplace. The workplaces who can't find any reports about behaviour Hmm The men who sexually and emotionally abuse their partners. The men who rape their partners. The men who deliberately try to make the women around them as uncomfortable as possible.
Reading the article, I couldn't help thinking of the girls and women I know who have been in similar situations. It's exhausting and soul destroying having to constantly fight against boundary pushing and abuse; to constantly be reminded that a man's career or whims are always more important than women's safety.
Flowers for the women who shared their stories. I imagine the next few months will be very difficult for them.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 16/09/2023 17:04

I didn't want to finish the article, but the initial part of it shows they have enough evidence for this to be a police investigation so I am not sure why it hasn't started with that. That would be the way to deal with this IMO. I feel for his victims, its awful

ThePoshUns · 16/09/2023 17:04

No surprise there then. Damp squib of a story after all that build up.
Sympathy to the women involved and good they are sharing their story but why not go to the police?

Thankyou for your post. I was starting to despair. 💐

Rape is when a person penetrates another person’s vagina, anus or mouth with their penis without that person’s consent.

It's not for us to tell a victim what words she should use. Your need to feel or be right, doesn't supplant a woman's need to use the terminology of her choice.

They probably have gone to the police.Unfortunately most rape cases don't end up in court.

Damp squib? Is that how you see that article, I think it's horrific. People have an awful lot of faith in the police 🙄

CeaselesslyIntoThePast · 16/09/2023 17:12

I quite like him. I hope whatever it is is false like so many claims. It's for courts to decide anyway. Not MN.

excelledyourself · 16/09/2023 17:14

'I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can't necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day.'

I wonder what Katy Perry knows.

Some very disturbing reading on this thread.

I hope that if any of the accusations are true, this approach doesn't damage proceedings.

LaaDeeDa321 · 16/09/2023 17:14

Bluewitch · 16/09/2023 17:16

@ThePoshUns

''Sympathy to the women involved and good they are sharing their story but why not go to the police?''

This is such a naive statement.

Do you know what the statistics are for rape convictions in the UK?

If you look charities like Rape Crisis they state that Less than 2 in 100 rapes recorded by police in 2022 resulted in a charge that same yea, let alone a conviction.

Women are often not believed and violence against women is minimised and systemic. This is how predators manage to flourish...

This is why victims have to find alternative ways to make their voices heard.
Also going after wealthy and well-connected celebrities is also not an easy task.

Most of the time it is just your word against the man's in a rape case. When I was assaulted I chose not to report it to the police because there was zero change that the guy would be convicted in a court of law...

So what are the women who have spoken up about him then? Actors, or just liars?

"like so many claims"

Nope.

Research has shown that false allegations of rape are rare. A CPS report published in 2013 showed that over a 17-month period, there were 5,651 prosecutions for rape and, during the same period, there were 35 prosecutions for making false allegations of rape.

https://www.cps.gov.uk/publication/key-facts-about-how-CPS-prosecutes-allegations-rape

That makes 0.6% if my maths is correct.

I'm fairly sure I didn't say I did!
But I can still like him and his comedy.
And as I say; it's not for MN to decide he is guilty of anything whatsoever.

MistyBay · 16/09/2023 17:20

Am shocked that people are shocked that men will try anything to get into bed with a girl or woman.

If they think they can get away with it they will.

surely everyone knows that?

There's trying to get someone into bed and there's sexual abuse and rape. HTH.

ScottishIceCream · 16/09/2023 17:27

I wonder why Russell Brand and why now.

The media always has reasons beyond public interest...

Who's investigating other celebrity men who are also undoubtedly in plain sight.

Why did it just happen to be this guy's turn this time?

Have you even read the article? This isn't just chatting women up, it's rape, assault, sexual harrassment in the workplace, emotional abuse and more.
