Surely if a sexual offence had been committed, then the victim /s would have gone to the police rather than a TV company?
Or even the TV company would have gone to the police after gathering all their evidence over 3 years, rather than broadcasting the name of the accused or their evidence?
Imagine for a moment that there is a famous person named Mr X and on prime time TV he's named as a sexual predator, with the police wondering what the hell is going on as no one has reported this to them.
So they hot foot it round to his house and arrest him, meanwhile the victims are panicking about giving statements, his wife has packed his bags and the kids are getting bullied on Monday morning at school.
Then the question is raised of why the victims went to the telly company instead of the police, leading to the majority of the public not believing them.
Then, if it does end up in court, the prosecution asking the same question.
Which makes for a difficult trial.

On that basis, I'm going with the bagpuss theory.
