Just been announced in Daily Mail - shocked me to be honest. Always thought they were solid and made to last!

Bats FOR the other side.

PinkFootstool · 15/09/2023 19:16

Oh no, that's sad. They were a golden couple. And I hope it wasn't a lavender marriage, that's also very sad for all involved.

are you serious...

He really did holiday in north Yorkshire, he went to the Wensleydale cheese factory for a trip out. It's a lovely trip out I don't blame him. Beautiful cheese and views!

Iwantcakeeveryday · 15/09/2023 19:18

oh that is sad, even as young adults it will be hard for their children. I hope they come out of it happy and amicable for their sake

It's well known he is in the same league as Schofield.

SpringViolet · 15/09/2023 19:20

Shame. They always seemed very loved up with each other but sadly appearances can be deceiving.

Maybe the age gap is more apparent now she’s 67 and he’s 54. Their youngest DC is 18 which may be coincidental, or not.

Hope a much younger woman doesn’t appear on the horizon as I always liked him and thought he seemed like a decent, down to earth bloke.

It never struck me as a ‘lavender marriage’ tbh. They’ve been together for 30 years.

Mrsjayy · 15/09/2023 19:25

Aww that's a shame they seemed happy I follow her on SM she heads a charity that im interestedin . I'm a big Hugh fan I guess if there is any "outing" it's not going to be much of a surprise.

I saw that with his cheese.he was also in Wales watching Wrexham play

Lampzade · 15/09/2023 19:29

I just assumed it was a lavender marriage tbh.
Still thought that they would be in it for the long haul

Kimten · 15/09/2023 19:33

Yeah I heard it was a lavender marriage. Lots of rumours about that through the years.

EachandEveryone · 15/09/2023 19:36

Even if it was it worked for them. Maybe there was an unspoken contract. I’m sure they will stay best friends.

Spacemoon · 15/09/2023 19:36

I went to see his live shows a few years back and the way he spoke about Deb was so refreshing. It's clear he loves/loved her dearly. Quite shocked by this to be honest.

I've always thought the 'cover up marriage' rumors were mean spirited and based on people's skewed views of how a straight man should be and also because his wife is older and seen as traditionally 'less attractive' , but who knows. Hopefully this isn't the case. Hugh is one of the few men in that industry that I still have respect for.

Mrsjayy · 15/09/2023 19:38

Their statement is all about loving each other and personal growth so I'm assuming it's been discussed and no bad feelings, I mean I have no idea but they appear respectful of each other.

Canonlythinkofthisone · 15/09/2023 19:42

What's a lavender marriage?

Ozgirl75 · 15/09/2023 19:43

Why would any one have a sham marriage these days? He’s an actor FGS, hardly the most macho and heterosexual profession!

Womencanlift · 15/09/2023 19:43

I’m surprised that people are surprised. I thought it was common knowledge that it was a lavender marriage

If their child has just turned 18 then I suppose that makes it the right time for them

DwightShrute · 15/09/2023 19:44

A lavender marriage is where one or both are gay, it was popular in the olden days of Hollywood to cover up the male stars who were gay.

What's a lavender marriage?

I’m going to have to google it. Never heard that term before now.

MariePaperRoses · 15/09/2023 19:47

Canonlythinkofthisone · 15/09/2023 19:42

What's a lavender marriage?

A marriage of convenience of usually a gay man to a woman in order to appear heterosexual.

LaurieFairyCake · 15/09/2023 19:47

They clearly care about each other very deeply after 27 years of marriage and are splitting happily

It's a great length of marriage, nothing to be sad about - it's really amazing to be able to live with one other fucker for so long 😂

BettyOBarley · 15/09/2023 19:48

No way! Didn't see that one coming tbh.
I follow him on Instagram and he's always posting such gushing things about her.

I've heard the lavender marriage rumours but never really seen it myself, I would be surprised if it turns out HJ is gay - not that it matters in the slightest.

cassiatwenty · 15/09/2023 19:49

Aquamarine1029 · 15/09/2023 19:04

I'm actually a little upset about this and I rarely ever give a shit about any kind of celebrity nonsense.

Hugs 💐

AcrossthePond55 · 15/09/2023 19:50

People splitting after many years together (silver separation) is getting more and more common. I am sad about them, they seemed so 'tight' but no one knows the real story behind any marriage. And that includes whether or not it's 'lavender'. Just about every good looking male star from Gable to Pitt has been tagged as gay at some point in their career.

I hope they just grew apart and it's not some terrible misbehaviour on Hugh's part. He always seemed like such a nice man.

fortheloveofflowers · 15/09/2023 19:56

I didn’t even know he was married to a woman, I thought he was gay!

grayhairdontcare · 15/09/2023 19:56

@hmrcwhatnow when is this on and what's it about?
