What is going to happen to all the litters of xl bully puppies?

So now that XL Bullys are going to be banned by the end of the year (fully in support of that) what is going to happen to all the puppies?

Currently on gumtree for my city alone there are about a dozen adverts for litters of this "breed" so across the country it must be hundreds.

I can see that the prices have already been massively reduced but who is going to buy one now knowing that it will have to be on lead, muzzled etc

What will these breeders do with all the unwanted puppies.

It occurred to me that if they release them into the wild then we could have packs of wild dangerous dogs roaming around...

If my friends ever spoke to me about dangerous breed dogs I'd be outcast for my views.
I have friends with these dogs who are absolutely lovely, truly, I adore spending time playing with them. However, just because of how dangerous they are and yes ALL DOGS are, but my jack Russell as much of a tool as he is, probably won't be killing anyone will he?

We as a society do not need dangerous dogs. It may be, "bad owners", but I don't give a shiny shite, they're not just sending you a&e for a tetanus, they are potential killing machine.

My pals are all sharing "no bad dogs/just bad owners" and all the other bumph, however I strongly disagree.

Sadly, some breeds are just too dangerous even if being raised correctly.

It's terribly sad, but I'd rather see dogs gone than children mauled to death.

People should just not be allowed to breed dogs full stop. Except licensed breeders and even then it should be heavily moderated and limited.

People just breeding their dogs cos they fancy it and selling of puppies on Facebook and the like should be shot. Maybe bit extreme, they should be criminally charged and socially shunned at the minimum.

if you’ve ever bought a dog from an advert then shame on you. You’re part of the problem. Not limited to XL breeds of course

I agree. I can't stand these ugly muscley creatures and the equally ugly-at-heart monsters who breed them. Both are a danger and nuisance to society.

All dogs should be muzzled when out and about. Spare those who don't need them and didn't ask for them.

Let’s hope they cull them.

Honestly the latest story of that man defending his elderly mother breaks my heart. Imagine your kid is walking the family dog and gets attacked by one of these out of control XL bullys. Or goes on a playdate and one of these dogs is in the house.

I would like to ask the potential owners of these puppies why they would want a dog like this.

Drug dealers

newnamethanks · 15/09/2023 17:46

Hopefully idiots will get their dogs neutered, muzzled in public, secured at home - not in a bloody cage- and otherwise behave like responsible dog owners. But I doubt it.

Sniffmyfingers · 15/09/2023 17:59

Every single one of those evil things in this country should be summarily executed by bullet the moment this ban comes in and the bodies burnt to ash so that they can never darken our shores again.

Ladybird69 · 15/09/2023 18:33

@stayathomer yes those lads shouldn’t have dogs full stop but in particular ones that are seen as dangerous as they are just going to abuse them and use them as a symbol of their street cred.
Both dogs were 4 months old and the XL was considerably bigger than the staffy.

The "it's the owner, not the breed" argument falls apart when you look at the potential damage certain breeds can do when compared to other breeds. Besides, do you also deny that certain breeds are genetically predisposed to certain actions e.g. Border Collies to herding?

FirstFallopians · 15/09/2023 20:01

However, there are countless families with these dogs - with children - as beloved pets. We also have a Yorkshire terrier who gets on amazing with my XL bully, and if anything it’s the Yorkshire with an attitude problem. So there’s your answer on why someone would own this breed.

If your Yorkie went for my kid in a park, I’d be able to stop it before it did them any real harm.

If your XL Bully did the same thing I’d just have to stand and watch, because there’s no way I could stop an attack.

I realise this is personal for you, and I’m sorry that you don’t like how posters have labelled animals like your own pet.

But I can’t, for any reason, understand a parent of a young child who thinks this breed is an ideal family pet and picked them for that reason.

It’s absolutely awful seeing this thread and how people would speak about animals in such a cruel way, not realising the amount of families/children the will impact on a pet level over less than 15 attacks from this breed alone in 4 years...

It's 15 deaths not attacks.

I agree, btw, that it's bad owners buying irresponsibly bred dogs that it the problem. This sort of cross - highly inbred - is almost invariably puppy farmed.

These are large, powerful dogs. Which unfortunately are typically owned by morons. That said, I'm usually pilloried on here because I do know 2 who, despite the bad breeding that is the hallmark of these dogs in UK, were lovely dogs. Very assiduous and experienced owners (who just happen to like bull breeds)

Only 9 were associated from this breed range

But that's 9 too many. 9 people who died needlessly from XL Bullies and left behind devastated families.

You sound like a very caring and conscientious owner. But there's a huge choice of breeds that aren't heavy, muscular monsters that even grown men struggle to control.

FirstFallopians · 15/09/2023 20:23

Yes but the problem is that no one thinks their dog will ever snap. I’m sure if you’d asked the owner of the dog in the most recent attack about their pet’s temperament that they would’ve sworn blind that they were a big softy bla bla bla.

I agree that there have been some comments on this thread that must’ve been difficult for you to read, but they can’t be a massive surprise? You’ve picked a breed that has been bred for muscle, adopted as the breed of choice by backyard breeders, drug dealers and paramilitaries. No one is picking an XL for their lovely gentle temperament- if that’s their priority they’d get a Labrador or something.

15 people have died because of these animals. And there’s no use saying “oooh it’s the owners, not the breed!”- if those owners had had bichon frises or cockapoos, those 15 people would still be here.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 15/09/2023 20:26

@BethanyL assuming you chose this dog for yourself and your then 3/4 year old - why is this the breed/dog you chose?

LodiDodi · 15/09/2023 20:30

'They're in the wrong hands' brigade out in force. A dog is decended from wolves and every dog can behave unpredictably, especially around children. I'm a dog lover but I still know this

Prescottdanni123 · 15/09/2023 20:37

Whether or not XL bullies should be banned, the amount of delight people on here are showing about animals being put down is revolting, and reinforces the belief that we are the true monsters in the world.

I'm not actually opposed to the ban, but I still find the situation very sad. We created these dogs and it is not of the bad stuff that has happened since is their fault. It is our mess to sort out, which we have began to do, but there should be no enjoyment in it. Nor is it a solution. Banning XLs is going to be pointless unless we crack down on the fuckwits who think it is OK to use a dog as a weapon or status symbol, or think buying a dog online is a good idea.

Meanwhile, people on here are already pissing themselves with excitement at the idea of reporting their neighbour's dog. No doubt, plenty of people on here who can't tell the difference between their arse, their elbow and a dog will be reporting dogs that aren't aggressive and aren't even XL bullies. Just because they don't like any dogs and begrudge them the air that they breathe.

After reading this thread it would be a complete and utter waste of my time and energy…

The absolute hate on this thread is disgusting and disgraceful, and I’d say a good percentage of arseholes on this thread have absolute zero knowledge..and are literally jumping on a bandwagon

I’m going to hide it now
