Films that you point blank refuse to watch (or watch again)

I don't mean due to boredom I mean just utterly distressing:

NEVER. Kes. So a lonely little boy finds joy in an innocent bird who loves him back only for his cunt of a brother to kill it, right? I'll pass thanks.

Harry Brown. One of the most violent, depressingly upsetting films I've ever seen. Never again.

NEVER. A Serbian Film. No thanks. Googling the plot was horrific enough.

Dumbo. Never in my life have I wanted to jump through a screen to protect and adopt a cartoon character. Same with Fox & Hound.

I never get scared by films. Horror films bore the arse off me. There is one film that I will never, ever watch again. I watched it years ago when it was on BBC1 late one night. At the time I had horrific PND bordering on psychosis which wouldn’t have helped but the film shook me beyond comprehension. It was Jude. I couldn’t stop thinking about it afterwards and it went on for weeks. Just couldn’t forget about it. This was over 20 years ago but even just typing “Jude” is shaking me up. So I’ll stop now.
@meditated I thought Head On was brilliant. I bought the DVD the day after I saw it but I’ve only watched it once more since then.

It's the rape/ violence scenes that I found unbearable.

By the way, I noticed a lot of the posters are finding plots involving rape most intolerable to (re)watch.

Dita73 · 06/09/2023 11:25

@meditated. Yes definitely. The original Straw Dogs was horrific in regards to that

GarlicGrace · 06/09/2023 11:34

Crash (Cronenberg) and Eyes Wide Shut (Kubrick). Both beautiful to look at and intelligently filmed; probably interesting explorations of sexual desire but just too ... fetishy for me. I disliked the characters and didn't enjoy participating in their seedy sex experiments.

Pretty Woman because I cannot stand its message. Breakfast at Tiffany's, same.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre because, obviously! I watched it once - the humour was welcome, but nowhere near enough to offset the horror.

I nearly re-watched Deliverance the other night, then realised I didn't want to go through all that again. Very strong film; strong enough for a lifetime!

Taketurn · 06/09/2023 11:40

Shutter Island. It left me really sad and perplexed fro days.

Tyrannosaur is an amazing film. It's gritty and the acting is immense.

I can never watch AI again. Even though I know he's not a real boy. So sad.

Just watching Tar. I almost gave up at the beginning but it's really engaging. Not at all what I was expecting.

AI is one of the most heartbreaking films I have ever seen. It was the bear that got me, what happens to him, he’ll be all alone forever. 😭

Freshair1 · 06/09/2023 12:51

Christ. I've just broken my own heart by reading the synopsis.

BlueSlate · 06/09/2023 12:58

Those films are not made for women to enjoy.

sunshineandshowers40 · 06/09/2023 13:00

I have watched Precious once and will not be watching it again, amazing acting.

Pearbear · 06/09/2023 13:03

Titanic, loved it until the very end when Leonardo Caprio drifted off and died. It stayed with me for weeks and I’ve never watched it again.

Can’t watch any horror or thriller type films.

Msbluebozooka · 06/09/2023 00:58

We need to talk about Kevin.
very disturbing

I love this film, The book's brilliant but agreed it's very dark.

Justleaveitblankthen · 05/09/2023 22:56

The drama was based on the film.
I couldn't watch it again. The gang violence was horrific, but Stephen Graham was mesmerisingly brilliant.

Gosh and there's the rape scene with Lol's father. That was utterly horrific.

LegendsBeyond · 05/09/2023 20:57

Eden Lake

Superb film, but yes, disturbing.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 06/09/2023 13:50

Green Inferno.

I once stumbled across it on the Horror channel, watched about 15 minutes and had to turn off because it was so traumatic.

Anything with animal cruelty. The ending of Kes in particular. 😭

Remember reading ‘Wide Sargasso Sea’ and have never got over the fate of the poor parrot!

Enderunicorn · 06/09/2023 13:54

Man bites dog. I watched it over 10 years ago and I still think about it and feel upset sometimes.

110APiccadilly · 06/09/2023 13:56

Titanic. I know this is a bit odd, but I can't watch it because it's about a real shipwreck. (I know the story of the film is made up.) But I just can't watch it, knowing that hundreds of people really did drown.

I'll never watch A Beautiful Mind again. Watched it once and spent a week afterwards not quite sure what was real!

idrinkandiknowthings · 06/09/2023 14:04

4catsaremylife · 05/09/2023 22:32

Jacob's Ladder - the original with Tim Robbins haunted me for years and I never found anyone else who watched it. Not seen the remake either

I've seen it - absolutely brilliant. Didn't know it'd been re-made though!

eandz13 · 05/09/2023 21:20

I won't watch Sophie's Choice since I learned about the choice. Who actively chooses to put themselves through that?

Midsommar because it was wank and I'll never get those couple hours of my life back. Fuck you Rotten Tomatoes

I won't watch the Final Destinations again because I just don't need that paranoia in my life, I drink way too much caffeine for that kind of agitation.

In the words of James Acaster "you never get any hours of your life back"

colouringindoors · 06/09/2023 19:03

I'm exactly the same. Was not entertainment to me.

Way back my OH rented The Lovely Bones for us to watch one mother's day.

He's now my ex.

colouringindoors · 06/09/2023 19:04

hmm that was supposed to be a reply to @110APiccadilly

DuesToTheDirt · 06/09/2023 19:36

Requiem for a Dream was on my watch list until it kept popping up on threads like this.

There are lots of things I wouldn't watch due to their well-known reputation, e.g. Human Centipede, Saw. I also know I don't like Adam Sandler, so I'd give his films a swerve.

I've seen some really boring ones I wouldn't watch again - so boring I've forgotten their names I guess, though Zoolander does stick in my mind.

OnTheBoardwalk · 06/09/2023 20:30

Is it wrong I’m using this thread to find some films to watch this weekend

i could never watch Marley and Me and could never watch watership down or Dumbo again

i have watched a Serbian film only after reading the synopsis. The synopsis is much more graphic than the film and played on my mind more. I wouldn’t watch it again

@DuesToTheDirt i'd say watch Requiem, it’s a great film and soundtrack but it will play on your mind afterwards

DinnaeFashYersel · 06/09/2023 20:32

Batman films
Fast and furious films
Nightmare on Elm Street films
Deadpool

I love a good miserable film personally! I've frequently put on something that's an absolute bleakfest when I'm feeling down.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/09/2023 20:56

I can watch certain parts but Eden Lake. The terrifying thing is that could actually happen, its not far fetched at all.

The end of Marley and me only because it had me literally shaking with sobs, and That was before I even had a dog. God alone knows what I'd be like watching it now I do have a one. What he said about a dog not caring if youve only got a penny or a million dollars is so true. I'm actually sitting crying now.

The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez. I remember thinking before I put it on I have to really think about this, because. No matter how sad I find it to just turn it off would be very disrespectful to little Gabriel. He couldn't just turn the abuse and torture off, could he. That poor little Angel. Why is it women like his c**t of a mother only had to seemingly glance sideways a dick and she was pregnant, yet you get women that ache to have children and would love nurture protect their children can't have them.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/09/2023 20:57

The Final Destination sun bed scene. It totally traumatised me. I actually made my DD promise me she'd never go on a sunbed.
