Films that you point blank refuse to watch (or watch again)

I don't mean due to boredom I mean just utterly distressing:

NEVER. Kes. So a lonely little boy finds joy in an innocent bird who loves him back only for his cunt of a brother to kill it, right? I'll pass thanks.

Harry Brown. One of the most violent, depressingly upsetting films I've ever seen. Never again.

NEVER. A Serbian Film. No thanks. Googling the plot was horrific enough.

Dumbo. Never in my life have I wanted to jump through a screen to protect and adopt a cartoon character. Same with Fox & Hound.

They Shoot Horses Don't They - can't here that song without feeling 'ick

Irreversible... The rape scene still haunts me.

Same.
I also have a huge aversion to rom-coms.

RenoDakota · 05/09/2023 22:25

The Lovely Bones. Sickening. Makes me feel depressed and sad thinking about it now, too.

Katmai · 05/09/2023 22:27

Never again - Black Swan.

Never - anything resembling horror, particularly not of the psychological variety.

Nagado · 05/09/2023 22:27

Insidious. It was bloody scary and put me off horror films for life.

IncognitoMam · 05/09/2023 22:28

Tyrannosaur is an amazing film. It's gritty and the acting is immense.

I can never watch AI again. Even though I know he's not a real boy. So sad.

Just watching Tar. I almost gave up at the beginning but it's really engaging. Not at all what I was expecting.

Lokipokey1 · 05/09/2023 22:28

The Descent - can’t remember the plot, but the night after watching it I had a dreadful fever and remember being convinced I was ripping myself in half and the bed was drenched in blood and loads of images from the film kept invading my dreams. It’s the only time I can remember a fever making me hallucinate like that and I was at uni and had no one to call so it was petrifying!

peppermintcrisp · 05/09/2023 22:28

Westworld series 1. I made it to the the end but it was horrendously violent. Absolutely no need - the maze on a scalp was the last straw.

Colinswheels · 05/09/2023 22:29

I saw the trailer for Hereditary, that was enough!

Anything with horror, graphic violence/sadistic cruelty.

I’m with you on that one, what the fuck is the point?! Horrible.

The Lovely Bones. Sickening. Makes me feel depressed and sad thinking about it now, too.

I read the book first. I thought the film was excellent. Loved the revenge.

Tessisme · 05/09/2023 22:30

Funny Games (an Austrian film) absolutely traumatised me.

I also found A Clockwork Orange really hard to watch, even though I had already read the book.

Whattodo112222 · 05/09/2023 22:30

Wolf creek... no thanks

Twillow · 05/09/2023 22:31

CoffeeMakesTheWorldBetter · 05/09/2023 21:06

Wolf Creek I think it’s called. I still have nightmares about it now.

Same

4catsaremylife · 05/09/2023 22:32

Jacob's Ladder - the original with Tim Robbins haunted me for years and I never found anyone else who watched it. Not seen the remake either

Ivesaidenough · 05/09/2023 22:32

Trainspotting - can't watch it again. The poor baby.

Dnd123456 · 05/09/2023 22:32

Another vote for Se7en. I was hoping for a happy ending at least then the police man ( Brad Pitt) receives his wife's head in a parcel.

SoRainbowRhythms · 05/09/2023 22:35

Nil By Mouth.

Astonishing film. But never again.

BirdiePlantaganet · 05/09/2023 22:35

Re-watches -

Up. Too sad.

Schindler’s List. Too harrowing.

Titanic. So boring.

Love Actually. So shite.

Vetoncall · 05/09/2023 22:36

I actually really like a good horror film but not the weird torture porn ones that were big for a while. And shooting the dog just isn't a mindset I can get behind.

Ditto this for me. I was persuaded to watch Eden Lake and Wolf Creek, never again.

I can only watch the likes of The Green Mile, The Pianist, Gladiator, Schindler's List etc. once. Find them too emotionally draining which isn't the experience I want from a movie.

fruitstick · 05/09/2023 22:37

Botanica · 05/09/2023 20:58

Million Dollar Baby. Watched it years ago and still can't get it out of my mind.

This has gone down in legend with DH and I @Botanica. I had to be more or less carried out of the cinema.

A Monster Calls is another one.

And Life Is Beautiful. A wonderful film but too too sad.

The Joker is one of the few films I had to turn off. Far too bleak for me.

NotMadeOfStone · 05/09/2023 22:38

I , Daniel Blake.

Watched it on a flight, stupidly, and people were wondering what the hell was wrong. Sobbed and choked like a baby.

Life Is Beautiful; watched the first half and couldn't stomach the inevitable ending.

Saw the title immediately thought of The Human Centipede wanted to bleach my eyeballs after watching that.

I googled a Serbian Film after another thread like this WTAF?! why would someone make a film like that?

I stay away from any violent/torture/rape/horror type film in my mind they aren’t entertainment.

ColdMeg · 05/09/2023 22:39

Eraserhead.

There is just something about that film that I can't cope with. It's the specific type of dislocated insanity, I think.
