Films that you point blank refuse to watch (or watch again)

I don't mean due to boredom I mean just utterly distressing:

NEVER. Kes. So a lonely little boy finds joy in an innocent bird who loves him back only for his cunt of a brother to kill it, right? I'll pass thanks.

Harry Brown. One of the most violent, depressingly upsetting films I've ever seen. Never again.

NEVER. A Serbian Film. No thanks. Googling the plot was horrific enough.

Dumbo. Never in my life have I wanted to jump through a screen to protect and adopt a cartoon character. Same with Fox & Hound.

I watched A Serbian Film years ago (I hadn't googled beforehand) and yes that is one I would never watch again. It left me feeling disturbed for days afterwards.

Eden Lake is actually one of my favourite films, have watched it more than once. I think British horrors just feel more "real" than Hollywood produced stuff.

People asking why do people watch these things. It's because I like that unsettled scary feeling. I wouldn't want to feel that way all the time! But sometimes it's interesting to feel that way, in a controlled way for a limited time.

Any other films I would never watch again are just because I found them so crap. Men, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Shutter Island, anything "Fast and Furious" and their ilk. Was forced into one by an ex and I was literally counting the minutes until I could leave.

OMG , has anyone seen The Farm , talking about this thread today with a friend and she had just watched The Farm last night and it sounds horrific. What warped mind could write this. She suggested it could only be an animal activist.

@Msbluebozooka Had a look at synopsis. No, won't be watching that! Tbf it sounds like a very accurate portrayal of the farming industry.

Msbluebozooka · 07/09/2023 21:44

Totally agree .

I could never watch Room. The book was excellent but I found it too nerve-wracking. My boy was the same age as the boy character and was similarly immature and wasnt great with speech or communication. He was big into Dora at the time too, the dialogue was so similar to my dialogues with my son at the time. Many years have passed now my boy is 15 but I still feel I couldn't.

I will never watch Lion because I couldn't watch a scene about a child getting lost. Again, it's personal as I had a particularly bad experience of losing my son (found safe and sound I should add!).

Anything with torture or sadism of any kind is a no for me.

I actually think there should be an additional category for particularly graphic or violent movies. I avoid 18 cert cos you don't know what you are going to get, the acceptable levels of violence seem unlimited. Or it could just be a sex scene, you don't know what you are going to get

I've now watched Tyrannosaur. Agree with the PP who said it's a harrowing watch but brilliantly acted. Olivia Coleman is amazing in her role. Won't be watching again mind you.

E.T. It terrified me as a child. I couldn’t even go on the ride in America when we took our girls.
Arachnophobia, never seen it as I am petrified of spiders.
What lies beneath.

I thought I was the only one!! I am still, aged 38, petrified of ET and have never watched the film all the way through!

I read the blurb on the back of the DVD and thought okay......... Then I watched it. Oh Dear!

Eden Lake- Just show nothing is scarier than human beings - forget Zombies, vampires etc etc. I lent this to someone. She saw it with her son. At first they thought it was boring and then........they were on the edge of their seats!

I agree. In a way it is far scarier than most horrors because it is human beings. You expect horror from Zombies, Aliens, Vampires, Demons etc but the things humans can do to each other....

Funnily enough whenever I go past a beauty spot I think of this!

Paynefully · 11/09/2023 12:55

I’m another one for Eden Lake, it gives me a panic attack even thinking about it.

in one way it’s such a brilliantly thought out scary film because it’s just so real, so ‘it could happen to you’ kind of story - which is why I just can’t watch it again. It’s scarred me for life.

OP I'm ashamed to say I've seen a Serbian Film and I would never watch it again. Same with Hostel, wolf creek and Groundhog Day

EmpressSoleil · 11/09/2023 13:37

I watched Tyrannosaur last night. The first 5 minutes was heart breaking enough! It was very bleak and a tough watch, but a really good film. But yes, having seen it once I have no desire to rewatch it.

newnamethanks · 11/09/2023 13:42

No Woody Allen. No Polanski. No rape, torture and death disguised as entertainment, which limits viewing quite a lot.

newnamethanks · 11/09/2023 13:45

Oh, no true crime. Vile, just seen a film displayed on Prime about Jamie Bulger. Poor parents. Horrible, how can that be an evening's viewing?

Thatsmorethanhalf · 11/09/2023 16:18

Some have already been mentioned

Requiem for a dream
Clockwork Orange
Scum
Last Exit to Brooklyn
Carrie
The Personal History of David Copperfield
Sunset Song

I’m sure I’ll think of more

The plague dogs, cartoon by Richard Adams.

Makes watership down seem like a happy cheery film.
Watched it and sobbed my heart out when I was about 9 or 10!

The scene with Lucille in the walking dead..felt anxious and heart beating fast throughout...didnt like it at all.
Loved the walking dead too.

ShivWesker · 29/09/2023 06:54

Weirdly, mine is Train to Busan. Brilliant movie but I can't bring myself to watch it again.

I've never been so scared and upset over a movie in all my life apart from 28 Days/Weeks Later. Will never watch those again. It's only cause it's her Dad that turns and it makes me upset cause I've lost mine 💔

ShivWesker · 29/09/2023 07:37

Ohhhh and the 9/11 movie 😭💔

PinkMoscatoLover · 29/09/2023 07:41
