Films that you point blank refuse to watch (or watch again)

I don't mean due to boredom I mean just utterly distressing:

NEVER. Kes. So a lonely little boy finds joy in an innocent bird who loves him back only for his cunt of a brother to kill it, right? I'll pass thanks.

Harry Brown. One of the most violent, depressingly upsetting films I've ever seen. Never again.

NEVER. A Serbian Film. No thanks. Googling the plot was horrific enough.

Dumbo. Never in my life have I wanted to jump through a screen to protect and adopt a cartoon character. Same with Fox & Hound.

I like horror films, but not body horror. So I won't watch Tusk or The Human Centipede. I remember that came out round my birthday, and friend watched and told me how gross it was and to look it up on Wiki. I did, and it grossed me out so much. Genuinely put me off my food.

A film I won't watch again because it upset me too much was The Orphanage. It's a Spanish ghost film - a woman has a party and her son goes missing. I typed out the rest and deleted it for spoilers!

I cried so much I gave myself a migraine.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/09/2023 22:41

I've had the sense to avoid most of the films mentioned on this thread. But unfortunately I went to see Se7en under the misapprehension it was just a crime drama with a good cast.

Notamum12345577 · 05/09/2023 22:41

I also made the mistake of googling A Serbian Film!

Sometimeswinning · 05/09/2023 22:41

Yes the human centipede is one of the only films I’ve switched off and not just covered my eyes.

RampantIvy · 05/09/2023 22:43

Pulp Fiction. Awful film.

Whattodo112222 · 05/09/2023 22:45

Also the rape and suicide scene in Scum... just awful

Whattodo112222 · 05/09/2023 22:46

I'm too scared to Google A Serbian film. Think I could do without knowing what that's about ..

TallerThanAverage · 05/09/2023 22:50

The Father with Anthony Hopkins the trailer looked like a psychological thriller but the reality was the most depressing thing I’ve seen.

peanutcrumble · 05/09/2023 22:51

@Whattodo112222 it's best not to know tbh. Wish I didn't 🤦🏻‍♀️

MisdemeanorOnTheFloor · 05/09/2023 22:53

@Turtlegurl888 I came on to say Bone Tomahawk (will never watch again, made me throw up) and I will never watch the Road, because the book absolutely destroyed me. Sounds like I've made a good call there!

SlippinJanie · 05/09/2023 22:54

I even bought the dvd of Kes because it is a brilliant film. Got it out months later, held it in my hand & thought: not a chance in hell I am putting myself through that. Never opened it. I agree about Jacob's Ladder too - it's the boggly head man isn't it? And Dumbo, jesus it hurts your heart so much. Other desperately sad films I won't watch again are Shell and Let Him Have It.

UnctuousUnicorns · 05/09/2023 22:55

My brother bought A Clockwork Orange when it got its re-release.

it never moved from the point we stopped it in disgust

My mum saw it at the cinema when it was first released. She didn't reach the end, but walked out in disgust at some point, I wonder if it was the same? (I haven't seen it myself.)

Meant to add to my post I know it is not a film but a drama series that always played on my mind This Is England by Shane Meadows, one scene so disturbing was when the young woman went into the caravan with 3 much older men and they got her to smoke heroin, she vomited, then they injected her and all took turns to rape her, it was so harrowing as she was so vulnerable and I just found it horrific and played on my mind for a long time as they knew the minute they saw her what they were going to do to her. Any violence towards women really upsets me and add the sexual violence more so.

The drama was based on the film.
I couldn't watch it again. The gang violence was horrific, but Stephen Graham was mesmerisingly brilliant.

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 05/09/2023 23:03

Anything sad or romantic. Titanic is a huge no. Why would anyone watch it just to be depressed?

ToWhitToWhoo · 05/09/2023 23:05

Sophie's Choice.

Also Jude the Obscure, due to what I know happens to the children.

Ghosttofu99 · 05/09/2023 23:06

Petrarkanian · 05/09/2023 20:58

Anything by Lars von Trier. I'll never forget Bjork singing at the end of Dancer in the Dark, traumatic.

Bjork publicly accused him of sexual harassment during filming as well which makes it even more depressing. He also did a film called Antichrist which my DH watched and was like ‘what the hell did I just watch’ where a woman basically cuts her own bits off so I’d probably not watch that on principle.

I boycotted Joker too as I just hated the glorification of that Gary Glitter song.

I refuse to watch Jeepers Creepers again or any of its sequels as the director is a convicted child molester.

There is no conviction against Woody Allen but I’d rather not watch another of his films again. I never really understood why he was revered anyway and most of him films are about creepy older man younger woman relationships anyway.

The whole Bryan Singer thing ruined his films for me too which is a shame as I loved X-Men as a kid.

In terms of content, I’d not watch Irreversible, I Spit on Your Grave or anything else with an extended rape scene that isn’t particularly justifiable to the plot again.

RenoDakota · 05/09/2023 22:25

The Lovely Bones. Sickening. Makes me feel depressed and sad thinking about it now, too.

The Lovely Bones is a beautiful but also depressing and horrifying film. I’d put it in the category of film I’m not sure I could watch again now I have kids. Not sure I’d be able to watch something like Gone Baby Gone anymore either as just the idea of something happening to a child is awful and would give me anxiety.

This has reminded me that I hate films that actually show violence towards children. It’s sort of an unwritten rule in horror movies that you show threat but not actual violence to a child but there was a spate of films about 7 or 8 years ago with horrible things happening to kids being actually shown. I remember being really annoyed with IT Chapter 1 for this reason.

Milkbottlewaffle · 05/09/2023 23:19

There are a number on here already that I haven’t watched and have no intention to watch! Serbian Film, Human Centipede, 50 Shades of Grey etc

I refuse to watch Golden Compass as I don’t believe it’ll do the book justice.

Never to watch again: Taken, Game of Thrones, Blue Velvet (seriously WTF!)

echt · 05/09/2023 23:21

The Iron Lady. Never watched it.

Disgusting creature. Thatcher, not me.

fruitsalad87 · 05/09/2023 23:27

Came on to say Harry Brown OP the most distressing film I've ever watched.

BlueSlate · 05/09/2023 23:37

Tusk was ridiculous. Human Centipede was also ridiculous. The second one was uncomfortable and made me gag. I didn't see the third one on the advice of my friend who could watch pretty much anything and advised me against it.

Gore and horror I do watch but I won't watch anything at all with any sex, nudity or rape. Or anything where children are hurt.

RubyRubyRubyRubay · 05/09/2023 23:38

I will never watch any SAW films. Ever, Never, No.

Fallingthroughclouds · 05/09/2023 23:38

puffylovett · 05/09/2023 21:00

The human centipede.
traumatised for life..!

I googled this as it was referenced in another film. Depressing that such a horrific mind exists to create such a thing, then more so as people want to go actually go and see it!

Fallingthroughclouds · 05/09/2023 23:40

The Deer Hunter
IT
Moulin Rouge - I could only hack about 4 minutes of Nicole squealing and postering. The only film I have ever walked out of.
