What's your simple pleasure?

For me, today, it is sitting in the hammock under the trees listening to the radio while the sun shines.

Early morning coffee in the garden, such peace.
Sitting in the garden at night, looking up at the stars.
Hearing my DC laugh with each other.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 05/09/2023 18:38

These are all lovely, thank you. I lost my husband early last year and sometimes it is easy to get stuck in grief, when I am struggling I am going to come back to this for a re-read.

Husband giving me back tickles. Early night in bed watching TV, reading a book or doing sudoku. Wine and a takeaway. Baths.

Drews · 05/09/2023 18:40

Sitting in the garden at dusk listening to the owls twit-twooing.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 05/09/2023 18:41

Fresh bedding especially if it's been dried outside.
Morning cuppa.
Morning sun shining into my room.

Cas112 · 05/09/2023 18:43

Salt and pepper ribs

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 05/09/2023 18:43

A perfect cup of top-quality loose-leaf tea, poured from a nice teapot.

Sorry for your loss, OP Flowers

A cold evening snuggled up on the sofa with a big throw watching a movie or reading a book.

Not only feeling warm and cosy but also feeling completely safe and happy within my own home, which I never take for granted as I know so many people do not have that pleasure.

DungareesAndTrombones · 05/09/2023 18:45

Cleaning my house then lighting a really lovely smelling wax melt. Nice smells make me so happy.

ghostbusters · 05/09/2023 18:50

My eldest son accepting a comforting hug when offered (and needed, he is too old for hugs every day now. My youngest still hugs, kisses me goodnight and holds my hand when we're out).

That first gin and tonic on a Friday night, after work, while the pizza is cooking.

Timetoflower22 · 05/09/2023 18:53

Waking up on a lovely summer morning around 7am sitting in the garden with a fresh brew (coffee) and listening to the birds.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 05/09/2023 18:54

A day of annual leave with the kids at nursery and husband at work :D

Ifyouknewmeyouwoudlikeme · 05/09/2023 18:55

I love breakfast outside in the garden after my early morning run. I usually stop around Nov but it makes me feel so good I'm going to keep going this winter even if I'm in my coat with a blanket and hot water bottle!

HerAvatar · 05/09/2023 18:58

The smells out in the countryside. I live in a dirty, rundown town but spent the weekend in the Peak District and had forgotten how bloody amazing the countryside smells, I didn't want to come home Sad

My magazine subscription arriving every month, I've never had one before and it feels so decadent! I always wanted a comic or girls mag (Jackie, Bunty) delivery growing up and never had one so it's like a really special treat.

A new nail polish colour

Freshly & perfectly painted nails and toes in a colour to suit my mood/outfit (I do them myself).

Watching an old favourite series that I haven't seen in years.

Occasional small packet of chocs from Thorntons for no reason whatsoever.

Cuddles with my cats

Listening to my DCs giggle.

Chatting with my sister or best friend on the phone.

Fresh bedding, PJs, hair.

Kicking up autumn leaves, I consciously do this every autumn to really feel autumnal!

The scent of flowering hawthorn in May. I look out for it every year, I first noticed it in infant school and it takes me right back to the hedges at the edge of the playground. It's the scent of spring for me.

Finding a large perfect conker still in its case.

Keeping the front door and porch really clean and clear of clutter. Can't stand muddy footprints, umbrellas left out for weeks, dead leaves etc, it makes me happy to have a lovely clean front door & porch when I leave or return to the house.

Cup of tea and a favourite biscuit.

In a way my life is made up of the small pleasures, I really do take the time to "smell the roses" and I probably appreciate small things more than most people. Big things are nice too but it's the ordinary day to day things that makes me happy.

Yesterday and today, sitting out front, drinking a latte and eating brunch, listening to my favourite music on headphones, enjoying the sunshine and watching the butterflies fluttering around what's left of the buddleia.

Not a simple pleasure. How many people have a hammock in the garden. Or a garden?

spiderlight · 05/09/2023 19:09

A perfect cup of tea, drunk completely undisturbed.
Fresh crusty bread with salted butter.
My dog waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs and running to get a toy to greet me with.
Hugs from my DS.

OhYeahyeahyeah · 05/09/2023 19:15

Sat by the Ocean, whatever the Weather, nothing better!

TerrorOwls · 05/09/2023 19:16

Looking up at the stars on a clear warm night. Especially spotting shooting stars.

Littleoakhorn · 05/09/2023 19:18

A baguette, butter and apricot jam.

Hairly · 05/09/2023 19:18

Picking my toenails on a Saturday morning.

Puffypuffin · 05/09/2023 19:20

Being on my own for an hour with a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Kissing the top of my cats soft little head.

Aww this ^^ and a great big bag of pic n mix with lots of different goodies in at the cinema. Snuggling up with husband on sofa watching Netflix on a winters evening. That feeling after a morning cardio workout (endorphins). That nice snuggly drowsy feeling when having a kip on the sofa.
