How much did you spend on your summer holiday? (And where did you go)

Just because I'm curious. We had a week in Europe but stayed with family so no accommodatione whole week came to around just under £1000, including eurotunnel, petrol, theme park tickets, meals out and me stocking up a car boot full of foreign sweets, beauty products, etc.

And then i took the dc camping for 3 nights in the uk which somehow burnt through money - £39 per night just to pitch a tent, plus food, etc. It just felt like a really expensive way to spend 3 days shivering in the rain and not getting any sleep.

Around £2000 for a week at eurocamp in Croatia (flights, accommodation & hire car). We only spent around £500 while there, as the kids aren't really up to eating out, so it was supermarket food plus the odd icecream.

Chickpea17 · 04/09/2023 12:55

2 adults and 5 year old. £2400 AI for a week in Kos in August flying from local airport.

Enjoyingthesedays · 04/09/2023 12:56

5k for a week in the Balearics all inclusive for 4 of us. Didn't spend any money there as we were all inclusive.

£250 for a campsite for a week in Cornwall then probably around another £250 on top of that on takeaways, barbecue food, a day out at an attraction, parking, ice creams etc.

Going away is very expensive.

Sammilouwho · 04/09/2023 13:05

£379 for mon-fri in Northumberland, then approx £200 when there on food/a family meal.

We thought this was expensive!

ColinRobinsonsFart · 04/09/2023 13:06

We are off to Turkey next week -B&B

The whole holiday will cost us about £3000 for the two of us

Includes
Flights
Health insurance ( we both have severe life threatening/limiting conditions and I use a wheelchair)
Accommodation ( B&B) £650 for the room -2 people
Eating out for lunch and dinner every night
Transport based on taxis and buses
Drinks
Nearly half of the cost is the flights and health insurance ( which has made us wince)

ColinRobinsonsFart · 04/09/2023 13:07

This is two weeks!!!!

sHREDDIES19 · 04/09/2023 13:09

We prefer to do lots of shorter breaks in the UK (long weekends mainly so it doesn't impact work too much) as I feel with one big holiday its over so quickly then you have nothing to look forward to. So over the summer we've been on four camping trips (Cornwall, Devon and Dorset), two UK seaside guest house breaks and a National Trust cottage break (that entitles you to free NT access). I would imagine it's costs around £2k all in but looking back we did loads and had fab time.

5 nights in Berlin for two adults, two teens
£830 flights
£650 apartment
Probably between £700-1000 on food and drinks, transport, activities. Brilliant fun, would absolutely recommend.

Knotaknitter · 04/09/2023 14:01

I thought that my holiday was a lot of money but this thread has thrown some perspective on the cost. Two adults, 14 day fly cruise round the med, just under £4k including transfers and airport parking. My previous holiday was three nights in North Yorkshire which was about £400 just for me. It just looks to be a smaller figure, the cost per person per night is about the same.

FlamingoFloss · 04/09/2023 14:12

£1100 for 2 is us to Turkey for 10 days (30th August). This includes B&B accommodation plus an upgrade to a river view (approx £200), plus flights and luggage. We paid extra - £50
return for train tickets to Gatwick and back and £45 return for taxi to and from resort/airport.
we will probably spend around £1200 but this includes private boats trips plus tiger fairly expensive trips we like to do when here

Tarahumara · 04/09/2023 14:17

12 nights in Morocco for 2 adults and 3 teens. £4800 for flights and b&b accommodation. Accommodation was 6 nights in a cheap and cheerful Riad in Marrakech and 6 nights in a 5-star hotel in Essaouira.

14 days cruise on the Mediterranean. £1,300.

Why so cheap? How many people?

Deargodletitgo · 04/09/2023 21:07

1700 for a week all-inclusive in Tunisia, including some tours. One adult, 2 kids

Orangebadger · 04/09/2023 22:54

4 of us camping in SW France. £2K 2 weeks. Including lovely campsite with lots of things happening, ferry, petrol, tolls and spending. We ate out a fair bit and did a lot. I had budgeted more for spending but came back with £500.

Serenity45 · 04/09/2023 23:22

£11k inc spends for a 4 week road trip to US midwest. 8 states I think 14 national parks and loads of other fun stuff. We've never spent close to this before, but had an unexpected inheritance. We are v sensible, have savings always doing bits go house etc so just thought "fuck it!". We had the absolute time of our lives and are planning/saving for a similar trip to Canada.

I appreciate we're v fortunate and as a kid I would never have dreamed that I would do something like this.

Ejismyf · 04/09/2023 23:26

2k to get there on flights and accommodation and 1.2k spending. Alcudia, Majorca. 2 Adults, 13 and 10 year old.

itsamedicalmystery · 04/09/2023 23:39

As the costs of sites/pitches has gone up considerable, we sited our touring caravan this year and I've spent every school holiday there this year. I work for the NHS on a WFH bases, so I just set up camp there. It cost £1800 for the season (including October half term), and so far I've spent 70 days (ish) there. The kids know the area well so they've spent many money-free days at the beach, going on bike rides, open top random bus rides. Food shopping is the same as home as I cook in the caravan. We've had a few wild weekends with rides, meals out, nights in the pub etc but I'd say I've spent no more than £500 over the year so far on disposable spend.

Heading abroad shortly for 10 nights and it's cost us £2700 for two adults, two children AI in Turkey (term time).

Howyoualldoworkme · 04/09/2023 23:42

11 nights for 2 in Lake Garda in a 4 star hotel in June. Including eating out, sightseeing and shopping about £5000.

Yellowdaysaregood · 04/09/2023 23:56

£80.00 Saltfleet ,4 nights in the caravan £20,:00 fish and chips, first night ,self catering about £40.0 living the fucking dream. Eh 🥳

sezzer87 · 05/09/2023 00:34

Nw22 · 04/09/2023 12:26

@sezzer87 ive paid more than that for a week in Cornwall next July but it’s a beach front house which our dog will love.

You can get a beach front house in cornwall for a lot then than £4k . When we took the dogs to cornwall we rented a beachfront log cabin literally a meter from the beach for £900 for the week. Pool onsite, dog friendly restaurant and very secluded. You just have to shop around.

A week in the Austrian Tyrol. Half board (and amazing food with a 4 course dinner every night) for £1200 for DD and I. Not including flights which were about £150 in total. Took £200 in cash but didn't spend it all as the food was so good and plentiful we only really ate cake or ice-cream during the day.

That sounds amazing! Would you be able to share the name of the hotel?

OhamIreally · 05/09/2023 11:20

Apologies @TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon I saw you already shared it.

Primproperpenny · 05/09/2023 11:27
